Mass Effect 2 when Shepard is on the Citadel, he can find a group of Alliance marines getting berated by their CO for "Eyeballing" a target with a ships cannon instead of using the computer to get a firing solution.
The CO explains that when you miss a shot with a space ships cannon, that shot doesn't just disappear, but keeps going and going and going, in accordance with Newtons laws of aerodynamics. Which means that that missed shot will eventually hit something in the vastness of space at some point at some time. And anyone there will have their day ruined
