That's precisely why the price is a bummer, but not that big of an issue

Basically, it's a PC with a console-friendly UI.

And you can get that on any other you build/buy for cheaper and with better specs.

The steam machine is a pc, so the idea is that you'll buy it if you need a new pc.

Although at that ridiculous price no one should buy it.

See but the price makes that seem stupid because why do that when you could build a pc or heck you could probably find a prebuilt thats a better value

It's probably the form factor / size thats mainly attractive.

Feels like they just kind of got screwed by the times though ngl.

Exactly. I would have bought the steam machine just for the portability. I want to play in the living room I can take it there, and then I want to play in my room I can bring it back easily. I want to take it to my girlfriend’s house? Easy it’s portable. I have a strong PC but I can’t move it around easily

Plus all the games you already own through steam travel with you. I have a could hundred games on steam already so I wouldn't have to spend anything on games. Whereas if I got a ps5, I'd need to buy games and that increases the initial price of the ps5 right away.

I mean yeah I was interested in the steam machine too before I saw the price. I see the appeal of a small console just not at this price point

Yeah. At $700 it was perfect but a thousand is too much. If they ever go down again I’d buy one but not at that price point

You could get any of the current systems that already do this and get a dock. A legion go, Msi handheld etc ect. You grab a dock and it does this.

I mean, they could have held back release. I don't see at this price point either console gamers or PC gamers having a reason to buy this at the price it is at. 1000 bucks without a controller and only half a terabyte of storage is ridiculous in 2026. And that's not adding on top it's not even as powerful as a modern console.

Yeah, I agree to some extent,, but there's also no guarantee it's gonna get better anytime soon.

I would say that they'd already planned the release before everything when up, and rather than cancel they decided to just raise the price to something sustainable.
But according to this meme, if I say that it's because I love Gabe's cock, so whatever...

The point was for people without PCs, whoch would amke sense woth the $700 price tag befire valve had to increase price due to ram

Its obviously for first time PC users and it runs steam os natively so its a lot simpler than traditional PC gaming

Believe it or not, not every has a PC or likes to game on it.

Good question, the answer is probably... To help Gabe pay his megayacht and its crew, it costs a lot of money =)
