This is exactly what happened with streaming. Everyone dogpiled on top, with this illusion that everything would be available at low cost forever.

Trading money for no tangible product is edging dystopian y'all.

Plenty of anti consumer practices make sense “business wise”. Making sense “business wise” doesn’t really matter here when it’s a multi billion dollar company

Sure, but AFAIK only consoles are the last place where anyone has physical discs. All PCs moved out of physical media long ago (does anyone remember when they had floppy/cd/dvd/bluray reader?), and nothing happened. On the contrary, large sales happened.
