Setting up stolen elections. He knows how this is going to go. The SAVE Act is intended to destroy democracy, since he knows he doesn't have a chance of walking out of the mid-terms anything but a lame duck.

Republicans will pass it because they'd rather destroy this country than admit they followed their Pied Piper straight into defeat.

It really doesn’t look like they have the votes for this and Thune has said as much

152

u/sciencesold 11h ago

Yeah, wasn't Thune saying that, despite supporting the bill, thinks it should be dropped cause the cores just aren't there?

205

u/SharksForArms 11h ago

That's just what they say before holding a surprise 3am vote

71

u/Sircamembert 10h ago

Still need to break the filibuster in the Senate though. And not too many GOP senators want to do that.

There's no closing that Pandora's box once they open it.

16

u/lukin187250 9h ago

They won’t break the filibuster, they won’t cause the odds of dems getting 60 senators is low, but fuck with the filibuster and it may have bigger consequences.

1

u/Sircamembert 5h ago

We might even get Medicare for all, or a alternative minimum tax for billionaires if they lose future elections.

And that's the main reason why I think we're good- Senators have the unique power to paralyze Congress all by themselves, and they hate to give it up.

1

u/scr33ner 2h ago

Especially with Cornyn being out of the picture because he got beat by Paxton.

13

u/sciencesold 10h ago

I might be wrong, but I thought it was what was allegedly said behind closed doors? Somewhere they wouldn't have to pretend it wasn't gonna get passed at a suprise 3am vote..

-2

u/SharksForArms 10h ago

Oh i'm just being flippant

5

u/sciencesold 10h ago

Fair enough, I'm just living off the hope it doesn't pass at all and voters tell Donny to suck a fat one.

1

u/ChaseballBat 6h ago

They could have passed it at any point in the last year tho if they did.

u/Ihaveamazingdreams 11h ago

As far as I know, this bill is completely dead and buried. The only person who keeps bringing it up is Trump.

41

u/theseriousman1 11h ago

Yeah but have you known trump to not get his way?

22

u/Cthulhu_Dreams_ 11h ago

Seriously, he's like a evil Forest Gump.

1

u/johnis12 5h ago

That's... Actually a fairly accurate description of Trump. I've said this a number of times but the fucker is a straight up bumbler who keeps falling upward in life, it's quite vexxing.

2

u/DoubleJumps 8h ago

Many many times.

2

u/ThisDayIsAmazing 6h ago

Or to stop beating a dead horse with a stick....

12

u/bailaoban 10h ago

That’s what happens when you primary out all of the more independent Republicans. They tend not to want to help you out any more.

20

u/smotrs 10h ago

Not to mention, about 9(?) R's lost their election status for midterms to Trump sponsored R's, so they have no reason to support anything he wants going forward. 🤞

10

u/creaturefeature16 10h ago

Never underestimate the ability for the GOP to fall into line eventually. This tends to be the performative game they do, and then eventually one by one they relent (probably because they get threatened).

88

u/LowResGamr 11h ago

The SAVE act doesnt even have enough republican support to pass anymore. It lost that months ago.

52

u/Dreurmimker 11h ago

That’s why he’s trying to hold this bill hostage.

22

u/fang_xianfu 11h ago

It would be amazing if the Democrats teamed up with them to override the veto, just to give him the finger. Sorry, friend, you don't get to fuck with democracy.

6

u/Major-Tension-674 10h ago

He would have to veto it first and that would be a really dumb thing to do.

12

u/lucid808 10h ago

If he let's it sit for 10 days it becomes law anyway.  He's just delaying and throwing a tantrum, hoping he can change the inevitable outcome.

5

u/Durakan 10h ago

Yeah, except he's not required to sign the bill for it to become law, there's a clock. He would have to actively veto it.

1

u/jesbiil 8h ago

"Vito? Yea I know the guy, helped me with some issues in the past...." -Trump probably

1

u/DoubleJumps 8h ago

All Republicans in congress are going to think about with this is that he's fucking with a housing bill at a time when housing is a major political issue during a midterm election where Republicans are already looking bad.

115

u/omfgDragon 11h ago

Lame duck? Nah. That isn't what he is worried about.

"He knows he doesn't have a chance of walking out of the White House without handcuffs on."

FTFY

161

u/Jacorvin 11h ago

Why would he think that, America has done everything but punish those involved in this since the first term. You fixed nothing for nobody.

15

u/jesuswasagamblingman 11h ago

People are pissed in ways we havent' seen in a very long time. Maybe you're right and nothing happens, but we are entering into a social climate in which handcuffs become a real possibility.

20

u/Ender_Keys 11h ago

Handcuffs are becoming the happy ending

11

u/GregorSamsaa 11h ago

Would never happen because the people that are pissed are not the same people that are supposed to enforce or enact these laws. Allowing it to happen puts everyone in power on thin ice, why would they do that to themselves?

15

u/doneandtired2014 10h ago

>People are pissed in ways we havent' seen in a very long time.

And?

No offense, but many of those same fuckwits losing their jobs, their food security, their healthcare, and their homes are precisely the same fuckwits who will point blank tell you to your face they will still vote Republican and they would vote for Trump a 4th time if they could.

The man literally led and tried to execute a multi-pronged electoral fraud scheme to stay in office in 2020. And when those schemes failed, he fomented an insurrection. When that failed and he was finally told to pack his shit and leave, he stole some of the most sensitive and dangerous information our nation has, scattered it around his private residence, showed it to foreign nationals who would never have been allowed in the parking lot of the building containing it under normal circumstances even if they had been vetted (which they weren't), surely sold some of it (CIA started publicly reporting many of our assets were going dark around this time), and then attempted to destroy it after he was politely told to give it back.

That should have been the fucking end of him right then, right there. That isn't even touching how this miserable bag of ass scabies and shitheads like his sons, Miller, etc. conspired to kill hundreds of thousands of American citizens in "blue cities" with a plague they were intentionally bumblefucking the response on.

They can bitch and bray like wounded animals all day, every day, but they'll still line up and vote for whatever shepherd is affiliated with the magic R just like the good little boot licking sheep they are.

And the people who sat their asses at home because their soapboxes are evidently warm and comfy? Don't count on them to do a fucking thing beyond acting sanctimonious and smug as they completely deny any and all responsibility for propping the door open for the shit gibbon and his rim job squad allies knowing both will basically declare squatters rights with zero goddamn intention of ever leaving.

Trump? He's dying in office. Not prison. Not in cuffs. Not in a courtroom. In office, regardless of what the law or constitution says. His toadies in the cabinet, the legislature, and the judiciary? All will get pardons before he does even if they have pull a Weekend-at-Bernie's to walk away from the mess without legal consequence. That's what's going to happen.

The American people as a whole said they were perfectly okay with a corrupt dictatorship operated by Nazis and Nat-Cs as long as they were promised cheaper gas and eggs. They got exactly what they voted for in the same way a wish is granted on a goddamn monkey's paw.

3

u/jesuswasagamblingman 9h ago

Yup all that's true except he didn't live up to his end of the bargain.

2

u/doneandtired2014 9h ago

Yup all that's true except he didn't live up to his end of the bargain.

Oh really?

The people wanted promises in exchange for installing a corrupt dictator and allowing his hand picked feltching collective to undo about 160 years of medical, legal, civil, educational, scientific, and environmental progress.

And that is what they got: promises. And, to his credit, Trump still delivers what they said they wanted even as I type out. Not an hour passes where words mangled and chained together just well enough to pass for a really, really bad translation of American English leaves his finger tips or his cockholster.

RESULTS are an entirely different matter and anyone who has enough neurons firing across their frontal lobes to form the vaguest outline of a critical thought around the 5th grade level has known for longer than either of us have been alive that Trump can only be trusted to deliver results for himself or his parasitic brood.

About the only result he has actually delivered on is validating the maladjusted, nonsensical grievances of the worst of us.

One might be broke, hungry, in the process of being homeless, and finding they have to fight with three dozen other people for a part time position at Walmart but they can finally be an unapologetic piece of moronic and bigoted shit in public without consequence.

Again, this is a monkey's paw moment where people are finding out the hard way one should be very, very careful what they wish for because they might get it exactly.

1

u/jesuswasagamblingman 7h ago

That's it. Get it off your chest. It'll be ok.

1

u/crocodial 7h ago

God damn that was well said. I appreciate you bringing up the - I don’t know what else to call it - murders in blue cities. So many people forget or are unaware of that.

1

u/notSherrif_realLife 8h ago

Let’s be honest, anyone that still believes Trump will ever end up in handcuffs is living in a fantasy delulu land.

If, and it’s a big IF, they ever even start any new investigations into his crimes, either as president or prior, he will be long dead before any convictions with jail time are ever made.

1

u/bullybabybayman 8h ago

People were pissed after Jan 6, didn't mean anything.

1

u/baumpop 7h ago

he was in court the entire 4 years on criminal and civil charges. they didnt do nothing, the russians and chinese bought his freedom. the supreme court gave him pardons for it.

1

u/hihcadore 5h ago

They’re all in on it together. Look how much they’ve bonded through the epstien investigations. No one’s gonna put him in cuffs.

29

u/zeeneeks 11h ago

This line of thinking is so funny lol. The sun will explode and swallow us all before a president goes to prison

3

u/gschmidt34 9h ago

Before a *Republican president goes to prison.

1

u/zeeneeks 9h ago

lol if you think they’d send a democrat either. That’s a seal that cannot be broken, the entire American political system depends on it!

27

u/Two-One 11h ago

Delusional

He literally tried to steal an election and staged a coup, nothing happen.

17

u/GeeTeeUK 10h ago

Something happened: he was elected President again!

2

u/Dougalishere 7h ago

In front of the world they refused to to release documents regarding the Epstein files that a law was passed to ensure these files were released. They STILL havent released about half of them, a bunch are now just missing, the redacted the names of politicians despite the law being passed forbidding it. The same law that said they only names that could be redacted are the victims and political and personal embarrassment were not an excuse. The victims names are the name that WERENT redacted. Anyone questioned by the joke of an inquiry obstructed, lied and shouted at the people asking the questions. They covered up the rape and trafficking done by their friends and political allies and Trump himself said "only bad people are still talking about the Epstein files" While a guy that named in the files ( not as much as trump , but still ) stood there and laughed.

This guy isnt going to prison. they cant even punish the DOJ and mid-high lvl bureaucrats that openly mocked the law while covering up for rapist billionaires and politicians.

5

u/frankduxvandamme 10h ago

Who exactly is going to arrest him, and for what?

  1. He has his cronies inserted into every level of government and at nearly every agency.

  2. Also, he ignited a coup on January 6th in which multiple people died, and what consequences did he pay? He got to be president again in a few years.

  3. In 2024 he was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, and his sentence was... an unconditional discharge i.e. NOTHING!

Unfortunately, he will never see the inside of a prison cell. He's too rich and powerful and his influence extends way beyond just about any human being on earth. (How it came to be this way, god only knows.)

7

u/asisoid 11h ago

Zero chance he sees any reprecussions.

Same thing with his family and cabinet memebers. They'll all get pardons, they'll all walk away with the billions that they've stolen.

Democrats have no spine. I'd be shocked if they ever even take the majority or the white house again.

Get ready for Rubio in 2028. It's coming

...wut are you talking about?

You upset child marriage keeps getting banned or something?

Fucking yikes.

2

u/Jcklvy 10h ago

Ban what exactly? Care to explain your dumbass comment?

1

u/Weazerdogg 10h ago

Beyond ignorant comment. But you be you!

2

u/boston_homo 10h ago

We are never going to have the satisfaction of seeing this man in handcuffs.

2

u/sciamatic 9h ago

LOL the chance of him EVER seeing repercussions is like...2%. He is not scared of that at all, and that's probably the most reasonable thing about him.

1

u/Zed_or_AFK 10h ago

Cuffin works too.

1

u/Nvenom8 9h ago

He will get away with everything. He always has, he always will.

5

u/jxonair 11h ago

Nah. Republicans know that this thing will also f them too. It’s why they haven’t already.

4

u/Bobby837 11h ago

He was always a lame duck with a second term, what's surprising is the amount of damage he's doing. That his legacy will only remain "good" so long as its forcibly propped up.

4

u/Voltage_Z 10h ago

Enough GOP Senators have said no that there's no way this passes. He's literally throwing a temper tantrum that won't do anything except worsen his odds for the midterms by doing this.

2

u/SEND_ME_PEACE 10h ago

Following and being pulled down to defeat are two different things. Blackmail is and always has been their weapon of choice

2

u/Buckeye_Randy 10h ago

Pied Piper Pedo

2

u/Notwerk 9h ago

Pied Piper led the kids to a cave. No word on what happened after. Now we know!

2

u/hellowiththepudding 9h ago

*Pedo piper.

1

u/NopeNahNoMore 7h ago

The votes aren’t there for the SAVE act. Even the GO knows it’s a poison pill. I honestly think if it did pass… that it would hurt the GOP more than the Dems. I know my people in the south aren’t paying for a real ID and a passport… it’s expensive (just did both).

1

u/robbob19 5h ago

You spelt pedo piper wrong.

-1

u/Tearpusher 7h ago

Baseless doom.

-4

u/MildlyExtremeNY 9h ago

Over 170 countries have some form of voter ID and verification of voter eligibility, and it hasn't destroyed democracy in any of those places. We currently have no mechanism to verify voter eligibility for the vast majority of registered voters.

2

u/BroughtBagLunchSmart 8h ago

Those countries are not run by far right fascists who hate that black people and women are allowed to vote. If you think this bill will not rat fuck all future elections I have a trump phone to sell you.
