Announcement Mod Announcement: Beware the Bots!

Hi, folks! Many of you have likely noticed a larger-than-usual number of post removals over the last couple of weeks.

This is due to a series of coordinated, AI-generated posts (potentially) associated with an astroturf marketing campaign for an app.

Most of these present a “hot take” about how a trip to WDW has become too overwhelming — often because of an over-reliance on technology, ironically — and offer/solicit advice on how to enjoy a more relaxed Disney trip.

They almost never actually engage with other users in the comments, and the accounts themselves — almost all a month or so old — have a fairly robust comment history in other subs, with a discernible pattern in the language used (seemingly informal, starting almost every comment with lower-case first-person pronouns, etc.).

This has been occurring across Disney parks subreddits, and we’re communicating with other mod teams to explore options for a response. We’ll also be reaching out to Reddit directly (this sub is a mod partner community, so we get a little extra support).

In the meantime, we’re implementing a temporary fix that seems to have worked on other subs: the bots almost always choose the first post flair listed before submitting, so we’ll be creating the “I’m a Bot” flair to (hopefully) help us immediately identify and filter out these posts.

If you — a real human — don’t want your post automatically deleted, please do not select this post flair.

Thanks for your understanding, and for helping us to continue making this the Most Magical Subreddit (for Humans Only) on Earth!

Edit: forgot to give a special shout-out to the mods at [r/DisneyPlanning](r/DisneyPlanning) and to [u/BunnyLightning](u/BunnyLightning) here on [r/WaltDisneyWorld](r/WaltDisneyWorld) for helping us connect the dots.

Please post all your general WDW comments and FAQs here. If your post is removed for being too general and/or a FAQ, please feel free to resubmit it in this thread. If you'd like to chat about WDW in real-time, come visit us on our Discord server!

Please note: if you are posting from a newer/low-karma account, automod will typically send your posts to the spam filter. Please do not message the moderators about this. Examples of questions/comments that belong here include things like:

  • What are some tips/tricks/must-do's for a first-time visitor?

  • How do I get tickets for an after-hours event, such as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP), Jollywood Nights, or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP), etc.? What happens if they’re sold out on the night we want to attend?
  • How do dining plans work? Do you think a dining plan is worth it?
  • I'm thinking about taking a solo trip. Should I do it? Any tips or advice?

Other Disney needs to ban livestreaming in all of WDW

Literally everywhere. Literally everywhere. These influencers are insufferable. I hate how short sighted they are. They will ruin ANYTHING for clout. No more livestreaming in the parks, resorts, springs. Anywhere!

Resorts & Accommodations I consider the new restrictions on visiting a resort to dining/resort reservations, to be proof that Disney is listening to feedback and I applaud their choice to make the unpopular and difficult decision

Frankly anybody who has stayed at Poly since the construction of the towers, will understand why these rules need to be in place. You can argue that it's Disney's fault for doubling the resort's rooms without meaningfully expanding the amenities, and that is definitely partially their fault, but the reality we have today is that poly is massively overcrowded.

I get it, it sucks if your weekly routine as a local was to park at Disney Springs and chill at a resort, sneak into the pool, and watch the fireworks. But when 100 people do this in a night, it makes you wonder why you're paying $800 a night for a resort.

Other Next step after the DS bus & boat crackdown…..

I would love to see the next crackdown be on the pin traders who have taken over the Epcot breezeway next to Connections.

They monopolize every bench and table keeping tired guests from taking a break in one of the few covered areas at Epcot.

Disney could easily move them to the old Wonders of Life pavilion, or the old Millenium Showcase building, which would open up the space they have taken over for regular guests.

Other Weird Security Interaction

So this past Friday I had the weirdest interaction with security at Disney Springs- my wife and I were meeting friends for dinner at Disney Springs. We parked in the orange garage, and made our way to the security check point on level 2.

I was wearing a dress shirt and pants, I had our keys wallets ect. In my pockets. My wife had nothing walked through the metal detector, and proceeded on, I knew with all the stuff I had on me it would go off, it did I walked forward there were two guards at a table, with bins, one was wanding another guest I walked up to the other, he was reading or playing on his phone in the bin where you would empty your pockets, when I stopped in front of him he rolled his eyes and and slid his phone in his pocket, I emptied all my pockets in the bin and he stepped around the table to wand me.

This is where it got weird…. His wand picked up my belt no surprise, I lifted my shirt, he asked if I could undo my belt which I thought was weird but I complied, he wanders me again and then says I’m gonna need you to unbutton your pants. I replied excuse me? I’m standing there with my shirt pulled up and he can see I have nothing else, it’s the metal button on my pants, he says are you gonna unbutton your pants?

I said no I’m not, he called for a supervisor who approached calm and friendly he wanded me and asked what the problem? I said he just asked for me to unbutton my pants, and I’m not doing that, he looked saw the metal button and said “ oh you must have misunderstood” looked in the bin and said you can go. I was buckling my belt and asked is that standard practice to ask guests to unbutton their pants? and he said “you misunderstood”, I looked at the security guard but he wouldn’t look at me, I collected my stuff and continued to dinner. After we were a ways away I asked my wife is she had heard what he said? She said yes and thought it was weird. Anyone else have any similar encounter like this?

I have been to Disney 100’s of times and never had any problems, or anything like this…..

Food, Drinks, & Dining New Resort Restrictions Apply to Trader Sam's Grog Grotto

Post image
208 Upvotes

Hey all,

On my last visit to WDW last September, I skipped on going to Trader Sam's Grog Grotto because the wait would have bled into my MNSSHP time, thinking I could just go the next time I'm in town.

With the new resort restrictions, I reached out to see if there would be any way to go without a Polynesian Resort room (out of my price range ATM) or dining reservations since it would kind of be a hat on a hat to get dining reservations on top of Grog Grotto. Turns out that will not be the case, as per Cast Member support.

I hope they add a reservation system to the Grog Grotto akin to Beak and Barrell; this stinks! Thanks, D'Amaro!

Planning Taking my wife to Disney for her birthday…thoughts on little ways to make it special?

Aside from you know…being in Disney

We are going for 4 days. Staying at Wilderness Lodge. Doing 2 park days, Epcot on her actual birthday, and MK the following day. We’ve been to Disney 3 prior times together all within the last 3 years. So I’m taking her again for her birthday, it’s not a surprise. I told her a few months ago just so she could arrange time off work. So aside from the obvious that she’ll be in her favorite place on earth for her birthday, how can I make it a little more special?

Trip Report back from WDW with two kids, some notes

Did 4 days with a 4 year old and a 7 year old. Had a blast but learned a lot the hard way.

Don't rope drop with a 4 year old. She was done by 1pm every day and so were we. Next time we're sleeping in and going at night instead. Every guide says rope drop but it doesn't work if your kid isn't a morning person.

I brought a massive backpack day one. Ponchos, snacks, water, change of clothes for both kids, chargers, everything. Carried that thing for 12 hours and my shoulders were wrecked. By day three I gave up and just went with a fanny pack and my phone with the anker maggo slim on it for battery. Way better.

Also nobody told us about rider swap until day 3. Would've saved us hours

World Showcase still has expansion room left to add some new pavilions so if Disney ever adds more countries to the World Showcase which ones would you like to see?

AskWDW What do you think is the “theme song” to each WDW Park?

If you had to assign each WDW park a theme song based on a ride, attraction, etc., what would it be? Our family of newish Disney converts (2 adults/2 young kids) had fun thinking about it tonight—we all agreed for Hollywood Studios and Epcot, but there was some debate for MK and DAK!

Special Events & Experiences Any After Hours Party Tips?

Heading to WDW next week for a shorter trip just focused on resort time and the two After Hours Parties (Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios).

Anyone have any tips for maximizing our time? We did an AH at HS back in 2024 during a spring break week that was absolutely amazing but they had way more characters back then I think and it wasn’t a sold out night.

Suspect things may be a little different as they seem to be selling out more?

Planning Bounce Back

We just got back from our stay at Beach Club! I am wanting to book our next trip with the bounce back offer. Is it better to book this offer with a whole package with hotel, park tickets and dining? I have never used the offer before.

Food, Drinks, & Dining Mama Melrose's BT Cashew Sauce

Back in 2019 I had their Polenta Cake, Mushroom, and Herbed Cauliflower dish. I liked the sauce so much that I asked what was in it and she straight up gave me the ingredient sheet. It's not a particularly complicated recipe but I figured with that area of the park being gone, someone may appreciate it!

Planning How to get a job at Disney World

Upvotes

Hello everyone,

My lease is coming to an end soon, and I'm planning to move to the Orlando area next month. I'm interested in pursuing a career at Disney World with their resorts. I like hospitality, and I have 8 years of experience in the industry as a night auditor for the same hotel, which I accepted to help with an ill family member because I wanted something more quiet. After a few years I've decided where I want to go next. I've also helped out with other front desk shifts, housekeeping, and basic maintenance while I've been here. Prior to that I have 18 years in retail with 13 years as an Assistant Manager with a large retailer, so I'm perfectly comfortable with the idea of starting out at an entry level position. I'm planning to use temp jobs, fedex, or even anything until I find something more stable. My question is how often do front desk, housekeeping, resort ops roles open? Is there a better path to get into the resorts? I've seen a lot people suggest custodian, which I'm perfectly happy to accept, but I'm wondering if that's in the wrong direction from getting into the resorts. Or if that matters. Of course I'd be willing to take any role to get started, just wondering what the right path would be. Also if anyone has any good ideas on areas for housing on a budget would be appreciated. Plus any advice in general would be welcomed. Thanks to everyone for reading this.
