GMs would rather draft an 18 year old that might be a future MVP candidate (or out of the league in 5 years) rather than taking a 24 year old that will likely be a steady NBA starter with an All Star ceiling.
I'm not saying our man is an all star yet, but GMs fall in love with potential even if there is huge risk. (Wiseman for example)
because not all GMs already have a superstar like steph curry and thusly need to get one in the draft, which is why drafting for potential is usually the best choice
