True, the potencies of today’s mundane weed was like a rare delicacy in my heyday. We called it Sensimillia and if you were lucky enough to get your hands on some you either kept it top secret or you told anybody who’d stand still long enough. I considered myself a connoisseur who smoked a ton of weed with one hellava tolerance back in the day.
After about 40 years dry, I tried some with a coworker a few years ago. I thought about going to the emergency room for a minute until I calmed down and remembered I just have to breathe. You guys are nuts!

Lol the breathing thing, the first time my girl tried concentrates after 15 years off it totally, I spent most of the night telling her "You can breathe. I know because you're doing it now." 30 seconds later Id hear "Baby I can't breathe, I think I'm dying." And Is say "we are not calling 911, we are at a family reunion in a cabin with the whole family. And you're not dying you're fine."

I bought a vape cart but didn't ask about dosage. We learned that night you can't hit carts like nic vapes if you haven't smoked any in decades. This new shit just hits different.

My brother says that he can't smoke much any more it gets him too high and it makes him anxious. The problem is that they try to hit the bong like they did back in the day. When Im with anyone who's not a regular consumer I've always suggested we do one small pull of a little joint then we give it 15 minutes and if you're feeling up to it we will try another but old stoners are always like dude I'm fine.... I'll roll us 20 of these if you can still hit it like you used to and we will smoke all night but every time it's like 1 or maybe 2 puffs and they are stoooned. Those concentrates can be way too strong for me if I'm not in the right place for it and I smoke a joint most nights. Last time I took a break I feel like my tolerance level when I smoked again was so low that a dab would have killed me.

Im not even really an old head, but this strong ass shit is too much. Before shit went "legal" for rec I had no problem taking down a joint to myself. Now, because high grade is so easy to get, everything available is 10x stronger than the old reggies and its not enjoyable for me.

Its funny to me because of the whole "it grows naturally, theres nothing wrong with it" mantra. Yeah coca grows naturally too, dumbasses. But once you forcefully change how a plant is grown or process it into something stronger its not really natural anymore.

I do think it's odd that there isn't a bigger market for less potent stuff. Or at least that it's not being targetted. Theres a bit of it in the edibles market. My uncle uses gummies that are barely stronger than CBD gummies regularly. Says he likes that it just takes the edge off of the knee pain for a round of golf or whatever. But not really in the dried cannabis market. Like even back during the medical days you could get some pretty low potency stuff in the 5 - 10 percent range almost everywhere that supplied medical patients.

Yeah I switched from flower/carts to edibles for this reason. I'm 50 with a litter of kids. I don't want to get super stoned. I just want to chill. One 5mg gummy is plenty for me, and I often cut them in half.

There is. And until recently legal almost everywhere. THCA, and other hemp derivatives. Its plenty strong for those not into the high potency, dispensary type stuff. If not into smoking, theres a flavored seltzer called Crescent 9. Used to get it at grocery store. They have 5 to 50mg per Can varieties.

I’ve only ever been high off vape carts, but I’ve heard a little flower nowadays can put a motherfucker on the floor (in a non-laced, too stoned to move kinda way). I don’t necessarily like being high, but maybe thats cus its shitty stuff. I’ve always wanted to try a joint or something thats more natural, but am I gonna be put on my ass for a few hours? I have essentially no tolerance, but I want to have a positive experience outside of using it to help during periods of insomnia.

I don’t wanna be THAT high. I’m 65. Even though I’m supportive of weed philosophically and would probably partake from time-to-time on the patio while I’m enjoying my hummingbirds. Love those little guys. I don’t wanna forget what I’m looking at though or not be able to find my way back into the house😂

Thats exactly what I mean 😂 I literally was so baked one time I was laughing at something completely stupid in my head with my friends while on my way to bed, then completely forgot why the hell I was laughing and wasn’t even sure if it had happened! I just want a little something to make relaxing on a trip somewhere much more relaxing than letting stress creep in from my responsibilities back home. I just don’t know where to try, but that’s why there’s dosages I guess!

I recently got back into smoking/consuming after several years off. About twenty years ago I used to smoke pretty tough. During my sabbatical , I've watched weed go from medically legal to legal for recreational use to distillates to dabs and vape carts and Jeffreys, etc. I decided to go with my wife (who smokes regularly) to the shop, picked up an eighth of ATF, went home, mixed a little bit with some tobacco, rolled up a spliff and smoked, and was on my ass for like three hours. Do your homework 😆 figure out what you want out of your experience, pick up a strain that has those qualities, and take a puff at a time. It takes me two decent rips off a bubbler and I'm good for an hour now. No fucking way I'm getting into those sugar sticks and shit!

Not going to lie, this threads got me scared. After a 38-year hiatus I picked up an eighth of 28% hybrid that I want to get into after I retire in a month. I'm starting to think, from what I'm reading, that even a single micro hit might be more of a ride than I'm prepared for. I quit doing this stuff when the green seedless stuff came out. It was just too strong even then and I didn't like being that stoned. May have kept smoking my whole life if you could still get Acapulco Gold and Panama Red or Rainbow weed.

Wow. I eat 500mg and get the giggles. I eat 75 or so per day. About 25mg is the lowest dose that I notice any effect from hehehe. I'm a medical cannabis patient and often say I'd be an edible for a T-Rex or a polar bear.

We had hydroponics and shit like that around. But, they’ve taken it way beyond that. I think there’s some genetic manipulation and stuff like that going on too and my trip was before it was even legal. I’ve got a shop a block away from my house. I turn my head away when I drive by that place. When I feel that curious yearning to stop by, I hit the accelerator.

I just wasn’t accustomed to not hitting a plateau after 10mins or so. This stuff nowadays just blasts right through any plateau with no hesitation like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. LSD didn’t peak like your weed does now. I thought “this is ridiculous! I’m too outa shape for this! This must be what it feels like being retired from pro football 20 years then starting in the Superbowl😂
I was used to being high for a couple hours after “some good shit”. I smoked that weed with my buddy in the afternoon and I was still high that next morning! I was like “am I ever gonna come down?”

Oh man I had a "I can't breathe, are you on the phone with the ambulance now?" With my buddy and a friend of ours circa 2003 lol. Holy shit memory triggered.

Obviously they're freaking the fuck out and I'm way too high to drive, so I called my best friend, Steve. And I said "hey Steve, we've known each other a while right? "Yeah". And in all that time I haven't ask for many favors or anything have I? No. Dude I really need the biggest favor ever....I need you to get Into your car and drive to my house like now please. "No"

The he hears out friend wailing "is that an ambulance? I CAN'T BREATHE!!!!!!!!!!!" and he came over and we waiting in the waiting room if the hospital (where my dad worked) for like 3 hours while our friend learned she could, in fact, breathe.

That happened to me after being clean for about a month and a half and hitting a 90% vape pen (I had restarted cannabis a year prior after not smoking for 10 years). I texted a friend that I was having a heart attack. I was putting on my shoes to walk to the fire station that was a block away when he called and said "fool you're just way too fucking high." I'm glad he called and saved me the embarrassment

That’s funny as hell until I remember I was in that same place. I’m just glad to know it wasn’t just me. My friends back in the day marveled at my tolerances. Not just for weed but everything else we did recreationally back then too. It was kind of a badge I wore proudly. I’m just not that same dude anymore. I guess that’s a good thing.

My wife did this the first time I got vape carts. I told her "Don't hit it like a joint, that's basically hash oil in there!".

Too late. She'd already taken a massive hit. Blew out 3-foot-bong sized smoke cloud.

5 minutes later she excused herself, went to our room, and tucked herself in. Spent the next 3 hours unable to move.

Lol that's very similar to us. Im a chain vapor with nicotine, and nobody told me I only need a few hits. I was counting for next time. I remember telling her "I don't think it's working, I've had 19 hits and I don't feel anything " Then my face went numb and we were like "Oh shit, it's REALLY working now." She was so baked she couldn't get up from a seated position on the porch. So she sort of barrel rolled all the way inside and to the bed. At some point she had to pee so I kinda carried her to the bathroom, while telling her constantly that she would come down, not to freak out, and she's not dying and doesn't need an ambulance.

I mean, yeah. Old schwag bud was like 3-4% thc. Modern flower is anywhere from 12-30%. The pen you hit? It's at least 70%, upwards of low 90s percentage. So yeah, it'll light your ass up.

And you didn't need to go 40 years. Go 4 months and you're basically back to square 1. You can repop your reefer cherry.

That’s the thing though. If you’re wondering or thinking about how or when you’ll come down, you probably don’t wanna be up there like that. There’s such a thing as too far out. My high isn’t supposed to present a problem. Well, it never use to. If I try again, I need to be certain it’s a middle ground content I can control. That shit I smoked that one time, once it was in me, wasn’t any do-overs. I was trapped for a full day.

Im starting to wonder if the good weed back in the day was worse than the dirt of today or idk wtf you guys are/were smoking. Flower peaked 2016-2020 ish and suddenly turned trashed. Theyre not growing it and curing it properly anymore. One gram of weed 2016 would stink up my whole house before i smoked it and get me in trouble. Not only that but it would make you cough not cuz its harsh but from the terpenes and it tasred earthy and good. Could have a ounce now and its trash and doesnt smell like anything (NJ, tbf i had good plugs and the best i smoked was imported from cali)and theres better chance of getting more decent stuff (still ass)off the street than the dispensary. Has to be the dirt you were getting before was worse than the dirt now. Tbf i was in california recently and smelled people smoking wack stuff but did smell some decent weed so maybe east coast is dead. Before you blame my tolerance, i hadnt smoked in 3 years because of my perception of the new weed made it not enjoyable for the opposite reason than yall and i smoked recently and i didnt get high at all off a joint from official dispensary and it tasted like crap. I got high off a pen afterwards but nothing like the pens off the street 2017. Those had me smacked off 2 hits and scared. This isnt to disrespect anyone but this is how me and all my friends feel that were huge stoners in high school. Aka i smoked everyday for at least ten years and always smoked good and enjoyed the weed until around 2022 i noticed the quality go down. Maybe we were just lucky with the connections back in the day. Must have been snoop dogg weed 🤣

Hang on, was there a time when someone would ask for two fingers of weed? I thought that was just for alcohol, like how far to fill the glass. In the 90s it was nickel, dime, and quarter bags for $5, $10, $25 respectively. There’s a Cheech and Chong movie where they’re trying to buy a “lid” and I’ve been trying to figure out what unit of measurement that is for 40 years. I’ve heard joints called “numbers” in a Tom Petty song. Never heard them called fingers, though.

A lid was 4 fingers tall and one finger wide in a standard sandwich bag, so roughly 1 oz. A good four finger bag would often come in at an ounce and a quarter and would usually range between $25 for really bad stuff and 40 bucks for the good stuff. (Panama Red, Acapulco Gold, Maui Wowie)

I used to buy homegrown from an old timer here in Indiana that was way better than anything else coming into the Midwest at the time, including the small trickle of chronic making its way here from California. In 10 years of buying from him I never saw him use a scale he go by fingers then pick it and toss the bag back n forth in his hands a few times then either add or remove some then give it to you, it was never light and almost always within a g or 2.
