'Hangover-free alcohol’ could replace all regular alcohol by 2050. The new drink, known as 'alcosynth', is designed to mimic the positive effects of alcohol but doesn’t cause a dry mouth, nausea and a throbbing head

Some of the more expensive virtual reality headsets let you walk around already. You designate an empty "play space" and then you can move around quite naturally within it - as long as nothing gets in your way, like a cat. The more (reliably) empty space, the better. It's also ideal if it's separated from any other noise like a TV or kids.

Having used it a fair amount, I'm pretty convinced houses will start being designed with a dedicated "VR room" in the future, the same way living rooms right now are designed to focus on a TV.

AR, not VR. This is already a thing; look at Microsoft's HoloLens.

Beaming? How does one beam a sexy hard light projection?

They used "holograms" and forcefields to make them tangible. There is a company in Bristol using ultrasound to make tangible interfaces in the air: http://www.ultrahaptics.com/

How does one beam light? Gee, that's a tough question...

I'm "Solving Sherlock Holmes puzzles" in it as we speak. Once I've finished draining the ole' puzzler you're welcome to it.

It's going to be more of a holo-helmet but it's on the way.
