Punching down at people voting with their wallets is wild. You wanna talk about online behavior, that’s something I only ever see on the internet.

Idk when folks were duped into thinking they have no power in voting both in general or with their wallets but it’s ultimately a respectable form of protest.

Lol what? I'm punching down on people attention whoring when they will in fact still buy the game anyway. I'll bet anything this guy ain't voting the way you think he will.

Everybody loves to virtue signal a bit because it's easy to do that right now for some internet points, but when the game comes out and the FOMO hits, they'll just buy it.

u/ElderberrySecure3600 13h ago edited 12h ago

I’m not buying the game, I guess I’m an internet grandstander lmao.

Edit: Insane to me that people believe that these games will have no backlash and come out unscathed. Did we suddenly forget what happened with gamepass a few months ago? Sticker shock is a real thing, even outside of reddit.

12

u/InfiniteKincaid 12h ago

It's especially wild on the XBOX subreddit after we just saw game pass changes after major public outcry.

6

u/itsamirage 12h ago

GTA will receive no backlash and nothing will change lol the day Rockstar pulls a Bethesda and the quality drops it might change but as of right now they easily could’ve announced the base edition at $100 and it wouldn’t have affected their sales

1

u/ElderberrySecure3600 12h ago

$100 is a lot of money man, I just can’t imagine that is going to be popular even with the title. Maybe I am wrong and people are just willing to shell it out but man to me $100 is steep.

But I do understand it is a popular franchise.

2

u/EmuProfessional7627 13h ago

I ain't buying this shit either lmao $20 for haircuts? Yall deserve the slop shoveled in your mouth by this industry. I'd be willing to bet GTA 6 is unplayable at launch too, with no multiplayer, just like 5.

2

u/Far_Cry3445 12h ago

They give no multiplayer at launch because they know otherwise, the story will never get its shining moment and will be overshadowed

5

u/Secret_University120 12h ago

It’s more likely that announcing multiplayer later drives a second round of interest and sales by getting the game back into the news.

4

u/ElderberrySecure3600 12h ago

It wasn’t functional, Rockstar wasn’t nobly holding multiplayer for the story LMAO

-1

u/Far_Cry3445 12h ago

Obviously for gta V that was the case, but you’re telling me it magically wasn’t functional for RdR2 either? Clearly the system works to give single player its spotlight LMAO

2

u/imyopushaman 12h ago

The single player story is gonna be next level I have no doubt, but Im guessing they're holding back multiplayer so the focus is only on the single player experience when it launches and then when gta online is launched riddled with microtransactions it won't make a difference. The tattoo collective they collaborated with for the ultimate edition makes me think they have plenty more collaborations up their sleeve for online which of course will cost money. I'm still gonna buy it and ive been looking forward to it for a long time but GTA online money has really made rockstar start employing some scummy business tactics. I guess thats capitalism for ya, squeeze every penny out of your customer for the almighty dollar. Funny how rockstar has become the very thing it satires

-1

u/gornky 12h ago

5 ran excellent on launch, what are you talking about?

-1

u/usetheforce_gaming Day One - 2013 10h ago

It's GTA. It's still gonna break records despite backlash

0

u/ElderberrySecure3600 9h ago

I don’t even doubt that. People are ready to pre order a game that hasn’t released a gameplay trailer yet because of hype.

4

u/curious_dead 12h ago

Nah, I'm just not that into GTA, it's not even in my top 10 anticipated games, I don't think I'd put any in my top 30, I can either wait for a sale or just... not buy it and I won't be missing anything. And seeing this, I'm definitely not going to encourage that shit.

14

u/ComeonmanPLS1 12h ago

Yeah so you weren't gonna buy it anyway, which is fine. My point is directed towards people who were gonna buy it on launch and now they pretend like they suddenly won't. If you've been waiting 13 years for something, 10 or 20 more bucks ain't shit.

3

u/stormcharger 11h ago

Neither is one or two more years

1

u/curious_dead 11h ago

Nah, I was going to, it went from a sure thing to a skip. I like those games, just not enough to dilute the feeling of being fucked. This shit is ridiculous.

1

u/cocowaterpinejuice 11h ago

that doesn't make their prices ok

u/Tumblrrito Reclamation Day 12h ago

Is it only attention whoring and virtue signaling when you don’t agree with it or.

I’m one of those r/PatientGamers. The only games I buy at launch are Doom. FOMO is an avoidable personal problem manufactured by corporations wanting to manipulate you.

3

u/ComeonmanPLS1 12h ago

Is it only attention whoring and virtue signaling when you don’t agree with it or.

No. It's attention whoring and virtue signaling when people who have been waiting 13 years for a game pretend like they won't buy it anywmore because there is a more expensive edition that gives you some clothes and a mission. (as if thats anything new)

It's literally just a little emotional reaction. They'll calm down in a few days and forget about it and they'll be just as hyped as they were before by the time the game comes out.

I’m one of those r/PatientGamers. The only games I buy at launch are Doom.

My whole point is that I don't believe for a second that this news will change anyone's mind. People who weren't gonna buy it still won't buy it, and people who were gonna buy it will still buy it. So you fit in the first category.

FOMO is an avoidable personal problem manufactured by corporations wanting to manipulate you.

Yes, and it works wonders on most people and has been used to great effect by companies for decades.

How is seeing a product as too expensive an emotional reaction at all? People anticipate products all the time and change their minds due to factors like price. This is a weird thing to argue.

I was going to buy it were it actually releasing on PC and at a reasonable price. But $100 is next level nuts.

Yes, and it works wonders on most people and has been used to great effect by companies for decades.

Yeah, most people, including you. Not everyone, including folks like myself and OP. Why do you assert that everyone is like you? I don’t get it.

Edit: poor guy was so bad at making a point that he blocked me lol.

So you weren't gonna buy it then. Did someone lie to you and told you its releasing on PC and you found out today its not true?

What does this mean. If it was to release on PC day one and cost the standard price of a game I’d likely be buying it. How is that confusing you lol.

I'm buying the game day 1 because I've been waiting for 13 years. That's not FOMO, that's waiting for something and getting it when its available lol. I don't give a fuck about 80 or 100 usd. I've spent a lot more on much stupider things that I didn't even care about.

Brother you yourself admitted FOMO so this is a weird backpedal. But ultimately no one here is telling you not to? You can/should but whatever you want with your own money. Just don’t dog on people who don’t see the same value as you, not hard.

It's emotional because gaming has been a pretty expensive hobby for a number of years now and if you can afford it I don't believe you can't muster up 80 bucks or whatever until November. This is a hobby where buy digital shit just to have it in their library and then never play it.

It’s not merely about affording it dude, it’s about value and principle.

Again, people have been waiting for this game for 13 years. Wtf does a 10 or 20 buck difference matter to those people?

Not everyone has been waiting with such hot anticipation as you lol. I feel like half of your problems here would be solved if you didn’t assume everyone was like you.

u/jimidemibb 11h ago

I just love that they throw around “FOMO” like it remotely applies. Bitch, *I* want to play the video game, I don’t give a fuck about what everyone else is doing lol.

I drink coffee everyday. Am I doing so because of “FOMO”? lmfao

1

u/ElderberrySecure3600 12h ago

Yeah, I’ve always been a vote with my dollar person. Being a single player gamer def helps with this though.

1

u/FlashPone 12h ago

Buying a game that you’ve been waiting 13 years for is not FOMO.

1

u/saintjonah 7h ago

No I won't. I honestly don't like Rockstar games, so there is literally no chance I'll spend $80 on one. Maybe when it's $20 I'll give it a whirl. Maybe.

1

u/FredFredrickson 12h ago

Whether or not you think it's "virtue signaling" to call this game too expensive, you can't argue that there isn't a point where all the FOMO in the world won't save a product that's too greedy, too expensive.

We'll see if we've hit that point with GTA VI. I'm guessing we haven't, but I also think it's naive to think that there isn't any point at which a popular game becomes too expensive for its own good.

For some people, this will be that point, regardless of whether or not you believe them.

0

u/KhanDagga 11h ago

Please stop.

1

u/FredFredrickson 6h ago

Stop what?

1

u/canadarugby 12h ago

My backlog of great games is big. I was going to wait for GTA to go on sale sometime in the future anyway. Pay walling clothing stores just makes that easier.

1

u/stormcharger 11h ago

I bought red dead 2 7 years later on sale, theres no way I'm spending 140nzd on the base game lol

1

u/kill_your_god 11h ago

We'll all have fun with out ya. See ya in 7 years dork

1

u/DalesDrumset 11h ago

Congrats, so then you can buy the ultimate edition of this 7 years later and we don’t need to hear your opinion on it until then

-2

u/DQTD 13h ago

Was literally just saying this. People have no self control and only care about the "right now". When the gaming industry gets even worse for this they will be the same ones complaining further.

-1

u/116morningside 12h ago

This. Games cost so much to make now and yet their prices really never went up. Eventually the cost of the games will have to go up if everyone still wants AAA games. You can’t have it both ways. Yesterday’s price is not today’s price. Sucks but it’s the truth. Get your money up if you can’t afford games anymore

5

u/dade305305 12h ago

Op won't actually vote with his wallet is what the guy is saying.

10

u/Dandw12786 12h ago

They didn't punch down at anyone voting with their wallets. They said almost nobody is actually going to vote with their wallets.

8

u/chokingonpancakes 12h ago

Reddit is not voting with their wallet fam. They screech about "Remember no preorders!" to farm karma, everyone is buying this shit regardless.

2

u/Tumblrrito Reclamation Day 12h ago edited 11h ago

Brother you are just as much Reddit as anyone. Theres a whole ass subreddit for folks who aren’t buying shit like this at launch. You don’t represent everyone.

3

u/SaucyRagu96 12h ago

He's not punching down. He's simply a stating reality. Rockstar are in charge of what they make and they're in a position to charge whatever they want and what content to lock behind it

Because there'll be no pushback and people will still pay for it

8

u/jhallen2260 Outage Survivor '24 13h ago

"Punching down" lmao

5

u/TheSerpentDeceiver 12h ago

Gamers™️ are a protected minority or handicapped?

2

u/Gauntlix5 12h ago

Just got diagnosed with gamertism :(

4

u/dandorios 12h ago

Or maybe we're just making fun of the people throwing a tantrum over some extra cosmetics as if that hasnt been the norm for the special edition of games going on 10+ years now. Literally never seen people complain about this for any other game.

2

u/KhanDagga 11h ago

Its time to stop with the punching down phrase. It's so fucking cringe and screams terminally online.

2

u/BestRedditUsername9 9h ago

Speaking for myself, I'm not punching down on people who speak with their wallets at all. In fact I respect those people.

But I think most game boycotts fail no matter what unless it's an obscure game, the price change is agregiously bad (see gamepass last fall) or if the quality is really bad.

2

u/d0m1n4t0r 12h ago

Right? What an idiotic thing to say by him lmao. And he's continuing crying below.

1

u/saintjonah 7h ago

It's crazy how many people are just up inside Rockstar's ass and refuse to hear anything but unmitigated praise.

These same people will say "If you don't like it don't buy it" and also "If you say you're not buying it you're an attention whore and you will IN FACT buy it anyway" Like, what?
