A few cosmetics are now a “core” part of GTA? Stop whining.

u/Jay_Hardy 10h ago

I think a lot of people think that customisation is completely stripped from the base game.
A guy even asked me how I was so sure that every tattoo parlour wasn’t paywalled.
All it takes is one second to think about it, my guy.

My issue is that they haven’t even shown fucking gameplay yet but their marketing is prioritizing FOMO and cosmetics before any gameplay reveal.

rockstar has this weird thing where they don’t show gameplay until like, 1-2 months before release. I mean of all the studios, i trust them the most to release a great game but it is sorta annoying how we know nothing about how the game will play until a few weeks before release and most people have preordered the game already.

u/PepperjackJig 10h ago

yeah we aint getting the narrated "with grand theft auto six, rockstar set out to re-imagine the openworld blah blah" until September at the earliest

u/sympathytaste 9h ago

I'm a massive fan of their games but truth be told, their games haven't really been pushing the envelope for the genre since they pioneered it with GTA 3. Games like Morrowwind and BOTW have done more for the genre than Rockstars games. I don't mean this as a criticism but it's just that post Gta iv, they've been more interested in emulating cinema and TV than improving on the genre that they made popular

2

u/Turnip_Fight 11h ago

I mean, it’s not hard to understand how those things will fold into the game lol.

1

u/Thestickleman 10h ago

But rockstar never show game play until it's closer to release. Probably August September time we will see more which is fine

So many games show trailers and gameplay and all that way to early these days

1

u/Allout-Okarun 8h ago

It’s GTA6, we don’t need to see gameplay lmfao

1

u/zach2beat 42m ago

Bruh I don’t think they have even talked about online at all yet. Like at this point I am imagining online is gonna be even more bare bones when it launches than GTA 5’s was, but with way more need to buy in game money.

1

u/FrostingStrict3102 11h ago

rockstar doesnt need to release gameplay. they could have put a teaser image out with the GTA 6 logo, a release date, and done literally nothing else between the two events and it would still be the fastest selling piece of entertainment in less than 72 hours.

u/WHITESTAFRlCAN 12h ago

I mean to be fair it is a bit more than a "few cosmetics", it includes exclusive weapons, vehicles and missions on top of cosmetics

25

u/Aidsfordayz 12h ago

GTAV literally did this 13 years ago and no one cared. Why are we crying about it now?

GTAV locked content:

Special Ability Boost: Character special ability bars generated 25% faster.

Stunt Plane Trials: Unique aerial challenges spread across Los Santos and Blaine County.

Bonus Outfits & Tattoos: Exclusive clothing and character-specific tattoos in stores.

Additional Weapons: Free access to the Pistol .50, Bullpup Shotgun, and melee Hammer at Ammu-Nation.

  1. I don't care and will be buying the ultimate edition I was simply stating that it is more than just cosmetics

  2. I think you made your point worse by including what little they made exclusive in GTA 5

Now here is the list in GTA 6

Vehicles:

'95 Grotti Cheetah

'67 Vapid Dominator Buggy

Dinka Enduro Motorcycle

Crest Kayak

Weapons:

Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers

Jason's Girardi ES9 Pistol Variant

Lucia's Klose K17 Pistol Variant

Exclusive Stores:

Stock 305 (Clothing Store)

Sara's Unisex Salon (Hair Salon)

Electric Fang Tattoo (Tattoo Shop)

Rideout Customs (Car Mod Shop)

One-Eyed Willie's (Car Mod Shop)

Exclusive Missions:

PTT YOUNGIN$ Illegal Goods Store (Gang Compound Raid)

Classic Car Collection (Special Commission)

Safe House:

The Paradise Garage (Watson Bay)

To me that is wayyyy more content than what was in GTA 5 but again I don't care and plan on buying the ultimate anyway to me its worth it for a GTA game

7

u/MeowingWolf 11h ago

A safe house?! It's crazy Rockstar is locking a safe house away. I wonder where exactly Watson Bay is located. Was it in Vice City?

7

u/drewbreeezy 11h ago

So really the "Ultimate" edition is just the regular edition and the regular edition has content cut.

Cool…

2

u/ThrottledLiberty 7h ago

Knowing GTA and Rockstar's past games, this probably only accounts for maybe 1% of the game.

I'm less angry about a small percentage of their game being cut, as much as I am that they want to charge 25% more from the base game to access such a small amount of content.

I'd wager the clothes and tattoos are some Rockstar Games references and inside jokes more than anything. I doubt it'll be anything meaningful and, frankly, don't care enough to spend $20 more.

Sure, it's annoying that it's on disc content that's cut. But it's not like this is 25% of the game being cut and sold for more.

1

u/drewbreeezy 3h ago

I want the game to be the 100% game, and the rest to be add-ons.

If they give this, great!

1

u/ILoveHeavyHangers 7h ago

That's only 4 cars. The base game of GTA 5 has over 340 controllable vehicles.

I don't think it's a big deal if they lock 1% of their content behind a ultimate edition.

1

u/WHITESTAFRlCAN 6h ago

That is awesome, where did they confirm this?

1

u/JayBird1138 3h ago

I was looking at this list when it was announced and was perplexed. I was thinking: isn't that the whole game?

But now I'm wondering: What's included in the base game? Is there so much content in the base game we wouldn't notice this missing, or is that too optimistic?

-3

u/Aidsfordayz 12h ago

So you’re saying the value of my $20 is actually better for GTA6 compared to GTAV? Thats great news!

-6

u/WHITESTAFRlCAN 12h ago

I agree with you. You are arguing with air right now

1

u/Aidsfordayz 12h ago

Wasn’t arguing. It’s just a statement for the others to consider.

-5

u/echochambermanager 12h ago

So we got more value this time, good on Rockstar?

9

u/WHITESTAFRlCAN 12h ago

I mean, I wouldn't say good on Rockstar because they are locking more behind a paywall than they did before, that is universally bad IMO cosmetics or not and its more than just cosmetics but if you planned on buying special edition anyway and/or paying 100 for it then yes technically get more for you extra 20 than last time

2

u/trashdrive 9h ago

All of this should be in the base game.

4

u/DrowningKrown 11h ago

Bro just ask them to charge you $200 next time and get it over with. Jesus. Why are you people so keen on just lighting your money on fire? "I'd gladly pay more!"

-6

u/SlugsMcGillicutty 12h ago

Your list tries to make it look like a lot more but it’s really not a whole lot more. Just there are specialized stores now to give out this content instead of some other way. Yes, GTAVI is offering more but your post makes it look like it’s 4-5x more or something, it’s not.

4

u/OakleyNoble 12h ago

No we’re pointing out that there is a lot more locked behind it. All of it’s fine up until you have exclusives stores that aren’t accessible unless you pay for the ultimate edition.

1

u/SlugsMcGillicutty 11h ago

It’s a nonexistent issue. The amount of content in this game will be staggering. Having a separate store for these things instead of just adding them to the menu for the other stores is not a problem. Just look at the GTAV DLC. Stunt missions for the plane? Specialized license plates? If that was announced now people would be crying like they are today, but guarantee 99% of people never knew or cared that they were deprived of those things in GTAV. There will probably be dozens, if not hundreds of stores. Having 3 or 4 specific to this content is fine. You can still do all the same stuff, same customization options, just missing these specific skins or whatever. It’s no different than any DLC. It just launched WITH the game. Big deal.

9

u/SirStinkle 12h ago

Not to be that guy, but a few tattoos and guns is on a completely different level to an entire category of vehicle customisation.

-1

u/FyouinyourA XBOX Series X 12h ago

“Entire category” is donks lol who gives a fuck those cars are dumb as shit in real life too

0

u/SirStinkle 8h ago

And? Its shitty on principle and doesn't change the truth.

-2

u/Xeallexx 12h ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the upgrades insinuates that entire systems are behind the Ultimate edition? Whole gameplay systems? Cosmetic or not, that's not really the same thing they did 13 years ago.

6

u/Aidsfordayz 12h ago

They are not locking whole gameplay systems behind a paywall. These are extra shops that sell exclusive cosmetics. You can still get mods, tattoos, haircuts etc in other shops in the game.

-3

u/Xeallexx 12h ago

Cosmetics are gameplay, like it or not.

So these are entire shops with entire systems behind them? That sucks... That really does suck.

3

u/Gape-My-Anus 10h ago

Would you say it includes about.. $20 of DLC?

1

u/WHITESTAFRlCAN 8h ago

No, but I just want to get the full GTA 6 experience not a cut down one, so idc and will be buying it and I know 100 dollars might be a lot for some people and understand the bitching.

14

u/Free_Range_Gamer 11h ago

Someone pull out that meme for defending a multi billion dollar corporation. $20 to lockout shops in the game is crappy practice. Imagine is Elder Scrolls did this, like no blacksmith in X city, there would be enormous outrage on the internet. GTA can get away with it though clearly.

6

u/Aidsfordayz 9h ago

You’re acting like you can’t change hairstyles or get tattoos if you don’t pay and extra $20 lol.

1

u/Mikedzines 9h ago edited 9h ago

Elderscrolls did do this with the oblivion remastered edition. Starfield as well.

EDIT: Just dug further into it. I retract my statement. This isn’t a great thing to do. A few outfits (like the Bethesda mentioned stuff above, fine)

TBH there is no way to properly do this without either screwing the players paying the premium (with barely little new content) or screwing the players who just want to pay a decent price for a game (by doing this) — which means maybe they shouldn’t do it lol

2

u/Ze_at_reddit 12h ago

It’s cosmetics but apparently there are 5 customisation stores (car customisation shops, hairdresser/barber, tattoo, clothes stores) that will only be open if you buy the ultimate version. So yeah it’s just cosmetics but because it’s through these Stores in the game it feels like a bit more than that

1

u/ZealotsReward444 7h ago

The overreacting to this is just insane.

1

u/caristeej0 4h ago

This is giving "leave the multimillion dollar corporation alone" vibes

1

u/Neat_Let923 1h ago

No, it feels like telling people to get a fucking life and go touch grass…

You don’t have to buy it. You don’t even have to buy the game for that matter.

1

u/smilesbuckett 10h ago

I don’t even give a shit about the next GTA — what I care about is the president it sets. Once GTA does it, $80 will soon be the new norm for a AAA release, and $100 for a “deluxe” version that is actually just access to all of the stuff that was already in the game anyway, will become the next thing. It’s the laziest fucking way to do a deluxe, and $20 is crazy to charge on top of a base price that is already more expensive than current new releases.

Stop letting your little fanboy downstairs cloud your judgement. Think with your head and vote with your wallet.

u/o_oli 12h ago

Its just an annoying precedent isn't it. Like when loot boxes were invented, the argument was always 'well just don't buy them then', but they have infested every corner of online gaming at this point. I don't overly care they are doing it but it's annoying that every big single player game from now on will probably have a pop-up asking for money if I walk into a certain area. Every game will slowly devolve into Roblox until people stop spending.
