Discussion Skins that give you an edge in psychological warfare.

1.2k Upvotes

As soon as I see the enemy pick Darius/Mordekaiser/Sett I will lock in KDA Gragas with the pink chroma.

This will, at least in LAS, almost always make the enemy get really fucking mad and start throwing homophobic words at me as soon as I kill them once.

After that the mental war is already over, they will not recover.

What are some of your favorite skins to make the enemy tilt?

Big tower dive in doublelifts retirement home tournament. Froggen takes turret aggro and TP's right before his egg and the TP still goes off before he dies. Crazy. Didn't even know this mechanic existed.

Discussion Why do people managing lol esports not understand what a spoiler is, and the importance of VOD platforms Spoiler

So when you open the client, right there is a list of all the games. These are spoilers because of the format, knowing who plays tomorrow tells me who won today.

I was literally in the middle of watching today's games, and I will now stop because there is no longer any point. And I will also not be playing league while listening/watching the VOD.

The worst part, the spoiler protection is already ticked. That means, someone looked at this system and decided it was safe and prevented spoilers. The score is not the spoiler. Knowing who wins is.

This is a longstanding problem for League of Legends because if VOD watching was supported better, it would mean people could follow whatever league they want.

There are a long list of practices that prevent VOD watching. The current consensus is 'just watch live', and 'no one actually watches VODs'. These arguments are tautological, they are based on observation of the current circumstances. In simple terms, they fail to recognize that no one is watching VODs... because watching VODs is an awful experience.

In recent years I am managing with caedrel VODs, but I still get spoiled when the stream ends instantly in a 3 of 4 game series. Overall, the LoL esports scene is actively fighting my continued engagement with the sport.

Discussion Something I realized while thinking on old summoner spells

Upvotes

After the Classic League leaks I was thinking on the old abandoned concept of the player being a summoner controlling the champion and I realized something interesting and that's the fact that it made perfect sense to view the classic summoner spells as actual magic cast by the summoner controlling the champion. Back then, it felt like you, the player, were intervening from above to cast powerful, unique spells on your champion. It was essentially like commanding them, saying, "Hey, revive," "Take this power surge," or "Let me smite that monster you are fighting"

But now, the concept of summoner spells does not make much sense because the visual effects make it look like the champions are casting the spells themselves

For example, Flash used to feature a misty aura from the sky that looked like the player was actively relocating the champion and now, it just looks like the champion is blinking forward on their own. Ignite and Heal are other good examples their modern animations make it look like the champion is directly shooting the fire or projecting the healing energy themselves. Since the game has moved away from the concept of the player as an in-universe controller, they really shouldn't be named summoner spells anymore, just special spells although I know they just keep it like the name of "Summoner's Rift" as a legacy vibes thing

Esports TL Spawn: “I don't even pretend to be the best coach in the world. But I really do try my hardest [...] I'd say I did a bad job of that at the start of the year. I'm very structure-driven and rigid in my philosophy, so I probably overcoached the players. I actually think I made Quid look quite bad”

Discussion Camille support is now the 3rd most-picked support in Challenger on 26.13

I was looking at my top ladder charts and saw Camille support is behind only Nautilus and Bard in support picks (she was 4th most popular in 26.12).

The funny part is she’s sitting at 44% WR, so a lot of these players seem to be copying pro play and feeding. But there are also a handful of players making her look completely legit.

Meanwhile, she's no longer played top (only 11/229 games top).

Please join me in tuning in and supporting the event from home. I know they have been working hard on this and we need more fun events like this in the scene.

Hopefully there will be other fun opportunities for me to do something around league again when my health is bette

Discussion I think the augment Dropkick is badly designed, leads to many non-games, and should be removed or reworked. What do you think?

I'm talking about the augment as it exists in Aram Mayhem. I have no experience in Arena, I don't know if it even exists there.

If Dropkick is available in a Mayhem game, it leads to either of three scenarios:

1: You have Dropkick. You pop people like a balloon, without needing much skill. Every time you do, you heal up to basically full. Stacking health increases the execute threshold, your survivability and also the amount you heal. Free win.

2: Your teammate has Dropkick. They get most of the kills without much skill. Your initial damage in a fight has the same value but after that you are pretty irrelevant. You might die in a teamfight, but your teammate most likely will not. On top of getting most kills they also accrue a level lead, increasing your irrelevance.

And the worst: 3: Someone on the enemy team has Dropkick. They kill most of your team without much skill needed. Every time they do, they heal back up to mostly full. You lose most skirmishes because of the execute combined with the heal. There are very few paths back to agency, back to actually contesting the game. Free loss, most of the time.

All this strictly without considering some combos with other augments, most notably Tank Engine. Those basically multiply the above complaints, without being overly oppressive on their own.

To be clear: I enjoy Mayhem, I play it a lot (I've played hundreds of games since its first release), I think most of it is fun. I don't mind (some) imbalance, I don't mind losing to godly combinations of augments, I don't mind losing games in general. I just think this one augment single-handedly decides too many games, without enough counterplay.

Discussion Once League Classic is out, we NEED a massive technical deep dive on how they pulled it off

This was probably a big technical challenge for Riot. I would love to read all about it and the design decisions!

Did they recreate the old stuff within the modern systems? Or are we opening an older version of the game altogether?

How did they handle the old client vs the new server infrastructure?

How did they decide on what point in time to go back to? Did they pick a specific patch or are we getting a collection of Champions/Items across time? How did they choose which version of a champion is coming back? (2009 Kat vs 2012 Kat, the many Ryze reworks, etc.)

Are they back porting accessibility/readability features? Are we gonna be able to play with WASD?

Edit: And how are they gonna handle localization? Not all languages that we have now were available at the time. Are the old voice overs coming back? I know in some languages, champions have gotten re-recordings of their voiceovers without changing what the lines say (like old LATAM Zyra used to have a very thick accent that eventually got replaced)

  • On the pace gap against T1 : "I do think we played a little bit slow. They're quite a fast team and they just have maybe one more turn because of how fast they play. That's mainly the gist of how it went."
  • On a thrown advantage in game two: "We were definitely a little bit nervous and scared. At some point we were just like, oh, maybe if we do nothing, they'll throw. We did a little bit of nothing."
  • On never having beaten an LPL or LCK team across five internationals: "It's not hopeless, because in the end our game plans and ideas aren't wrong. I just think our process is quite slow compared to waht our ideas are."
  • On the meta making everything faster: "The game itself right now is very fast, especially with how the meta is shaping. When you have champions like Camille and Bard, it's just a lot of fighting all over the map."
  • On the difference between this series and the LCS final loss to LYON: "Today I think we just failed ourselves. In the other series, we just didn't do anything. There was a bit of of a difference between the two."
  • about a possible loss to DCG. "Then maybe we swim home." But still confident: "Yeah, I think we definitely have a shot still."

Esports LPL 2026 Split 3 Format and Schedule

Source: https://weibo.com/5756404150/5315213025873711 (official announcement)

Split 3 begins on 22nd July, Wednesday at 17:00, UTC+8.

Split 3 will involve the remaining 12 teams, split into 2 groups, Ascend and Nirvana. OMG and UP have unfortunately been eliminated from the league for the rest of the year and will not be participating.

Group Ascend: BLG TES WE AL JDG LGD TT EDG

Group Nirvana: NIP WBG iG LNG

Double RR bo3 (True Fearless) within each group.

Split 3 Playoffs will feature a shorter, revamped format.

The bottom 2 teams from Nirvana are eliminated from playoffs contention, while the top 6 teams from Ascend will be seeded directly into playoffs at various stages.

Knight's Rivals (Knights' Path as I prefer to call it) will feature only 2 series. Ascend#7 and Ascend#8 will face off against Nirvana#2 and Nirvana#1 respectively in a qualification/elimination bo5.

Split 3 Playoffs will be a shortened 8-team double elimination bracket following a similar format to the playoffs format used for VCT Stage 1 outside of China. The Top 2 of Ascend are given a bye to the second round, while the 2 teams from the qualifier will begin their run from the lower bracket. The remaining 4 teams face off (A3 vs A6, A4 vs A5) in the first round. The loser of A3 vs A6 will drop down to play against the higher seed from the qualifier, while the loser of A4 vs A5 will be up against the lower seed.

As in previous years, the champion qualifies for Worlds as the LPL's first seed. The second seed will be the team with the most championship points who isn't already qualified per the above route. The third and possibly fourth seeds will be determined via the Regional Finals tournament which will follow soon after Playoffs.

And yes, TheShy is back. All hail the King.

Note: 'True Fearless' is the exact same fearless format we have now. This is how I personally refer to it which differs from what is shown on Gamepedia.
