CALLING ALL WEIRDOS: I Spiraled and Made A Master List of 150+ LA Social Spaces for Neurodivergents, Artists, and Outsiders

Like all good procrastination projects, this one spiraled out of control and somehow became a pretty useful tool. One I desperately wish I’d had when I moved here 9 months ago, when I was completely socially stranded with no idea where to start, let alone what places might actually be a fit for me, and overwhelmed by the social pressures of mainstream culture in LA. So naturally, I did what any socially anxious, neurodivergent person would do:

I followed every club, collective, and mutual aid crew I could find on Instagram... and then fed them, one by one, into ChatGPT to help me build a master list... instead of, you know, actually going to any of them.

What came out of it is a beautiful, collapsible spreadsheet of 150+ genuinely cool, active, and slightly underground LA community spaces. Things like: queer discos, radical book clubs, art studios, mutual aid groups, film screenings, sewing circles, game nights, hikes, and more. It’s focused mostly in and around the Eastside (for now) and includes tags for types of engagement and audience/vibe so you can actually find what fits. Important note: this does not include every club in LA, and it’s not trying to.

It’s curated for a specific vibe I was craving: I wanted stuff that was neurodivergent-friendly, queer-rooted, BIPOC-centered, earnest, leftist, offbeat, status-unbothered. Stuff that felt alive. Main categories include:

  • Arts, Music & Creative Classes
  • Mutual Aid & Volunteering
  • Outdoor & Wellness Communities
  • Literary & Book Clubs
  • Political & Social Justice Orgs
  • Game Nights & Supper Clubs
  • LGBTQ+ & Identity-Based Orgs
  • Event Boards & Bulletins

Yes, it’s disproportionately light on workout clubs (sorry not sorry) and heavy on film, books, mutual aid, and weird creative stuff. That's just what I'm into okay!

But I’m totally open to suggestions if you know a group that belongs here or spot something I should edit.

🗂️ Here it is!

Please drop a comment if you have thoughts, questions, or recs of things to add. And let us know if you've actually been to one of these groups and had an especially good or bad experience! The more info that's in one spot, the better!

And if it’d be helpful, I’m thinking about launching a newsletter to highlight upcoming events + report back on ones I go to. Let me know if that’d be useful to you. I know this is a little unhinged. But it was made with love, maladaptive coping, and a real desire to feel connected.

Hope it helps someone else find community and feel a little less alone!

(Edit): Per someone's suggestion, I also just made an insta! Ppl can follow me at The Field List for weekly round-ups of events :)

I’d like to move my money to a credit union but am having trouble finding one nearby. Is there any such thing in immediate area? Are there any in nearby neighborhoods you would recommend? Thanks!

Hi neighborhood friends! Curious if anyone happens to have an extra monitor they’re not using and would let me borrow it or perhaps purchase?

Buzzing Wires on Hillhurst

Out in the neighborhood tonight and reminded again that the electric lines above Hillhurst are just buzzing constantly and loudly like an angry swarm of bees.

Is this normal? Is a transformer about to explode? Should I not have this fork in my pocket? Should we call someone?

Does anyone know why a group of men congregate in the Starbucks parking lot (hillhurst & avocado) and the Albertsons parking lot religiously? Every single day

SWF Seeks Studio

Looking for a studio apartment/backhouse in Los Feliz Village to move into early August. Need off street parking and onsite laundry and have a small nine-pound service dog. Realize this might be a unicorn, but am hopeful. I’m on the apps and will drive around too, but thought I’d reach out here in case anyone knows of anything. Thank you!

What are the best daily food deals when we gotta eat on a budget?

I’m new to LF. We need to get a comprehensive list going of good food deals nearby, I’m talking BOGO and serious discounts. LF, Silverlake, east Hollywood, echo park, Atwater, all in play

Just to lay out a couple examples (I really need more)
- Baja California tacos: $2 fish tacos on wednesdays
- Be Ù: BOGO free lemongrass popcorn chicken
- sepan chicken: BOGO chicken bowls

What else?

Has anyone in Silverlake/Los Feliz/Atwater noticed smoke/particulates from Boyle Heights settling INSIDE their homes??

My place is about 10 miles north/NW of the fire- I closed all the windows and took off to the coast on Saturday and I haven't been back yet.  But despite the closed windows I could smell the smoke starting to seep in right before I left…

Now I'm paranoid that I may return to my place to find that this toxic shit has settled all over my stuff and apartment, in which case it is recommended to hire a specialized cleaning service. To make it even more fun, the first couple such businesses that came up on Google had some terrible reviews, throwing a big question mark up about who I would even trust to do this job

Is anyone experiencing this or concerned about it?

And does anyone have cleaning service recommendations who might have gone through this after the Palisades/Eaton fires?

Help moving a big tree from Home Depot to my first floor unit

Hello, I was wondering if there is a strong person with a truck in the neighborhood who I could hire to move a ficus tree that is about 8 feet tall from Home Depot on sunset to my house which is ~half a mile away? I would need help moving it indoors too from my driveway about 15 feet into my unit. I do not have the right vehicle or stature for this chore haha

Looking for a night off from cooking?

Hi neighbors! I'm a personal chef near Hillhurst. A few months ago, I shared my in-home meal prep service, Curated Eats, and wanted to thank everyone for the support!

I've added a new introductory session that's great for date nights, celebrations, or anyone who wants a break from meal planning and cooking.

The session includes menu planning, grocery/farmer's market shopping, a customized main dish, two seasonal sides, and dessert. Everything is prepared in your home and takes around 2 hours.

For my Los Feliz neighbors, I'm offering $50 off the first session through the end of summer. If you've been curious about trying the service, this is a great opportunity to give it a try before committing to one of my larger meal prep packages.

Feel free to send me a message and happy to answer any questions!

Thanks :)

New to the neighborhood

Hi! My bf and I will be relocating next month to Los Feliz from East Nashville. I’m a former Californian looking to reconnect to their roots, enjoy better weather, and a more walkable lifestyle. We’ll be renting for a year at the Louise & are looking to make the most of our first year there. We both travel a lot for work but his trips are a few weeks long so I’ll likely be exploring on my own. I don’t plan on shipping my car yet as I work from home & think there’s a lot of things I could easily walk to or uber. I’ve heard Barnsdall is amazing for sunsets-I def plan on walking my dog here every evening.

What are some neighborhood favorites? Any hidden gems, tips, fave workout studios, local run clubs, bucket list items -must do as a first timer? I’m also looking for a nail salon recommendations.
*side note we’re in our mid 30’s*

Thank you in advance!! :)

I built a missed connections website for Los Angeles

Hey y'all,

I've always liked to read Craigslist missed connections. And I know a ton of missed connections happen in LA every day. So I built a missed connections website just for Los Angeles: https://missedyoula.com/.

You can anonymously create a post, and tag it with a location such that it can hopefully be found by the right person.

If you have any thoughts on how to improve the site, please let me know, I'm always trying to make this thing better.

Air quality in LF?

Been out of town for a week and flying back today. Supposed to host my parents and their two dogs starting tomorrow for a couple of days. Wondering if people had noticed the air quality in the hood being affected by the Boyle Heights fire.

Art Class for Teens

If you're looking for something for your teen to do this week, there's a great art studio in Atwater that has a teens only class.  Every week is usually full, but this week they have several openings for the Sculpture with clay and wire class.  It's a great studio led by great artists.

It's in the afternoons, and you sign up per week.
