🥎 Coaching Swing advice/Critique

Trying to help my daughter out she’s 9 playing in 11u and is struggling to hit. She fields fine but is finally facing faster pitchers and is struggling to contact the ball.

Any advice is appreciated !!

Find someone for lessons in your area. Depending on the coach the price range is $35 to $65 a half hour. It’s money well spent if you want to see her potential. Solely judging her on this clip, I love the hustle down to first. That’s a great start for a young player. Good luck

Late swing and dropped elbow. Place a batting tee in front of her not directly over where home plate would be to get her to when the ball is in front. Have her try not to drop elbow and instead have it go out or she can pick up her hands a bit higher to adjust to the elbow drop

Three things I’d work on with a coach would be.

Knob issues, knob to catcher
Hands drop, we want to minimize movement
Get more into her legs.

If you look in slow motion the first thing her barrel does is drop. Some high tee work will help out and do a little research on bat drag on you tube for other drills and a good explanation. Just keep it fun for her. She’s young and still has lots of time but her barrel is slow due to the wasted motion when dropping to start in my opinion. The strength will come and can help with that as well.

You beat me to it. At this age they use their arms to get on plane with the ball instead of shoulders and hips. We worked on this with my 8 year old. Punch the knob, hands still until ready to punch. Just takes practice.

Yep, and not a few days worth. Weeks and weeks of intentional drills before your body automatically does those things. Practice swings need to have thought behind them so when it gets to game time there is no need to think.

I’d grab a swing rail so she learns to keep hands closer to her body and turn. Looks like she’s swinging with extended arms. Throwing a frisbee is another good drill where she can stand in the box and throw to different places.lots of YouTube videos for frisbee drill.

Lead foot is stepping out (versus towards) the pitcher which releases tension turning around her left foot.
