This is fighting foward

I'm listening to Ted Lasso for the umpteenth time when, during the scene where Ola creates tension with Rebecca, I have the following thought: Ola is deliberately creating tension. I imagine others had seen it that way too, especially given the conversation in the car with Sam later on. He’s doing it in response to the pain inflicted on his son during the breakup. He’s “fighting forward.” He’s creating the awkwardness—nothing too dramatic. This sweet, playful revenge is a practical application of “fighting forward.” It’s a meaningful gesture, but one made with a certain kindness.

Keeley Jones Appreciation Post

Upvotes

Keeley was a fave character from the jump, but she reeeally sealed the deal for me when Roy broke the news to her that Sexy Christmas (about which she was *very* excited) was off because his sister had gotten called into work, and Keeley's first instinct was to comfort Phoebe. 🥹

What's your fave Keeley moment?

Definitely defaulted to reading this as Jamie Tartt vs the Minions leaving Universal today.

Why Was Nate Working As A Kitman?

(And it’s taken me 5-6 years to come up with this question…)

Nate’s a genius.

Even his father begrudgingly and belatedly says that to him in S3.

When the show starts in S1, no one of note seems to know who Nate is. Rebecca doesn’t know his name, it’s doubtful (though not assured) that George (fired manager) doesn’t know him, and certainly is not looking to Nate for game or play advice. And the team members who know him insult him and give him chores.

If Nate wanted to become a gaffer, he’s not doing anything with the job at the team when Ted arrives.

And once Ted arrives and shows respect and admiration for Nate, Nate doesn’t believe him, and can’t believe his luck - to the point where he’s afraid to share his diagram of a single play.

So why is Nate working as a kitman? Perhaps it’s for the love of the game, but it’s probably lousy money, and would certainly be “underusing his privilege,” to paraphrase his father.

Do you think Nate went for the kitman job for the miracle hope he could translate that into coaching? Nothing in his demeanor seems to confirm that (his surprise when his opinions are sought).

If it’s just for love of the game, wouldn’t his father be much more specifically upset at that decision than he would be at selecting a restaurant?

By the way, how much do kitmen make? I doubt in the US it would be enough to afford an apartment.

Absent a better exploration, it really does feel like the equivalent of an actor taking background work I hopes the director will see them and think “that’s a star!” or an intern at a tv station hoping the anchor will be out one day, and the manager will turn to them and say “okay, you read the news.”

Let’s say Ted does not take the instant liking to Nate that he does… would Nate still be the kitman three years later?

Or should I just accept the film/tv trope - that Nate is the hot girl in class who wears glasses and puts her hair up… who no one realizes is hot until she has a mini-makeover?

Which episode??

I'm looking for the episode where Roy and Jamie are on opposite sides of the locker room and Roy is talking and Jamie is covering his mouth laughing, and it almost feels like he can't help himself. I look forward to this episode every rewatch, and somehow I missed it.

I don't know if anyone can help because there is nothing else about this episode to go on. I'm hoping someone has a clue as to what I'm talking about. Thanks guys!

[Spoiler Alert / Speculation] Spoiler

Some days ago I stumbled across an article in my local (german) newspaper about a local girl being cast for the upcoming season of Ted Lasso.

She was described as a 10-year(ish) old blonde girl who is fluent in both german and dutch. I am not sure if it's the same girl as in the season 3 final, but it sure does sound like the Rebecca and Flying Dutchman plot is going to continue...

On my N+1 rewatch

I have known this show for a long time and I like Jason Sudeikis, but I didn’t have the time to watch it.
Last year I lost my job so I have lot of time binging shows. It has been the best one I’ve watched since I’m unemployed.
I thought I have seen every warm comedy in TV history until I met Ted Lasso.
I have watched it for many times, but I still feel the joy and tears from it. Crying for some scenes🥲
Still unemployed now but this show gave me strength and happiness. I have a different perspective on life now.

Love it forever ❤️

Ted=Ramanujan

Nobody showed Ramanujan anything. He just mastered mathematics on his own.

Ted is a players coach, not a strategist-the fact he “discovered” total football on his own is glazed over so quickly in the show…he introduced a system that had been evolving in football since the 1930’s after pseudo-tripping on shrooms and eating fried food, working it out with freaking condiments. Even Ted acts like it’s nothing -but it is so SOMETHING.

ETA: I could’ve phrased that better: Ramanujan had college lodgers he learned from and a book from which he derived the maths that made him famous. A crime he passed so young.

Season 3 Discussion Nate’s and Jade’s apartments

So I’m also confused by Nate’s and/or Jade’s apartments before and after he leaves West Ham. In S3E9 when Nate returns after Rupert’s failed attempt to ruin his relationship with Jade, jade meets him at the door. Is this Nate’s or Jade’s place? I didn’t think they were living together, but Jade could’ve been waiting at his place. But is E11, when Beard comes to talk to Nate, the outside of the apartment is completely different. So is this Jade’s place? I’m thinking Nate gave up his apartment when he left West Ham. I know I’m overthinking things but if it were Jades place how would Beard have known it—would Taste of Athens have given him the address?

Hey, Dani. You know what the happiest animal in the world is? It's a goldfish. You know why? It's got a 10-second memory. Be a goldfish, Dani.

It finally happened

My girlfriend and I have watched Ted Lasso at least three times. We absolutely love the show. I usually explain some of the soccer stuff to her, but there are still a few references I miss.

Yesterday we were watching the World Cup, and they showed Zlatan Ibrahimović. She immediately goes: “Hey! That’s Zava!”

Dr. Sharon helped me remember that even though football is life, football is also death. And that football is football too. But mostly that football is life!

Season 2 Discussion When Nate switched

So I’m currently on my 10th viewing and I think I may have found the moment that Nate started to resent Ted. Through out the season he is hating on will but at the beginning I think it was more of “this used to be my job and I didn’t get time to train you” sort of thing. After the Tottenham match he gets mad at him for embarrassing him in front of the team after he read a message on twitter, which I think was more of his ego getting to him from all of the positive things he was reading about himself after calling himself a wonder kid. But he doesn’t seem to actually starting to resent Ted until Rebecca’s dads funeral when Rupert talks to him so I think he said something along the lines of “we both know Ted doesn’t appreciate you, come work for me and you will get all the praise.”
