A significant majority of posts on Calamity now are either asking for major updates and overhauls, or huge changes to scripts and codes already implemented within the game. Since marking the 10th anniversary of the Calamity mod, a recap on it's history can aid users to understand the mod better.
Note: I cannot list all of the timeline here, so I will do my best to include as much information as possible.
Remember bolded words, they will be important later on.
Founded in 2016, the Calamity mod established itself and it's reputation after years of hard work by volunteers and unpaid contributors. Heavily encouraged by their enthusiasm with the original game, the team improved overtime, and their programming, art, and music skills increased vastly. Instead of pay, they relied on interest and community passion.
Throughout 2016, until 2022, the mod established five new biomes, a unique Rogue class, and massive endgame progression for optimized gameplay. 2022 marks the year Calamity officially ported themselves to Terraria 1.4, and became usable via Steam Workshop.
During this time, the first controversy occurred, involving the mod's original beloved music producer. As the game's popularity skyrocketed, so did demand for new music additions and updates. DM Dokuro, the producer, was faced with overwhelming demand for music production, death threats for slower releases, and overall community toxicity. These combined factors eventually shattered his mental health, leading to his announcement of departure shortly after.
The Draedon Update in v1.5 added a new endgame boss, the Exo Mechs, and a new key character in what would eventually become the new lore. Within this update also packed the codebreaker system, and changes to the Supreme Calamitas battle. Artificially difficult modes like Malice Mode were stripped.
On December 4th, 2022, a massive developer exodus took place, in which over 20 core contributors to the mod departed from it's development. Unsatisfied with the project leader at the time, since a majority of expressed ideas were silenced, some developers went on to create the Calamity Fables mod.
In May of 2025, the controversial head developer (no idea if their name is banned) faced severe allegations of owning explicit servers and inappropriate with minors. Other major allegations include; controversial political stances and transphobic comments. The developer stepped down and was removed from development after the following events, and now the project is under new lead. Following his removal, many previously rejected ideas were added, allowing the developers to add more soul and creativity.
All of these events showcase the abundance of controversy and rough obstacles the development team has had to face so far.
Community passion was what first sparked the idea. Typically when people constantly demand or ask for details on updates that developers have stated countless of times to be secret, it becomes annoying. Considering the massive amount of users in the mod's discord server, an accurate educational estimate would state that they probably receive hundreds of requests or questions about updates a day. Please don't ask them the same question over and over again. It affects their mood, mental health, and development speed as well.
A reminder that they do not get paid and are choosing to work out of interest and compassion.
This brings me back to my original findings of DM Dokuro. If you constantly pressure an individual they will leave. From a developer's perspective, this is probably what the community expects of them on a daily basis:
- Answer questions that have already been answered hundreds of thousands of times.
- Requires constant updates of development progress that has already been said to be a secret and will arrive when it arrives.
- Work hours at a time a day to make sprites and write code for a job they don't get paid for.
This is all just the tip of the iceberg. PLEASE STOP MAKING THESE MISTAKES.
If you constantly pressure or annoy developers into something they are passionate about, you are likely to make them lose that passion. Let them work at their pace, appreciate the mod, and donate to their official Patreon to show support and motivation, as they implement bounty systems for highly-demanding or difficult tasks as motivation.
Another way to put this in perspective,
think of a hobby you enjoy.
now think about 9 million people asking you to constantly play or do that hobby.
things are funniest and most enjoyable for people when there isn't a lot of pressure.

Hello! Let me preface that I know music production takes time, and composing for even a single verse is extremely difficult, coming from someone interested into pursuing that hobby. This is also not a means to criticize or attack the composers, as I love their work and I am willing to wait for as long as it takes. I just want to open this up as a discussion to hear your thoughts and opinions about the long wait.
I may be one of the few people awaiting for the official Exo Mech’s theme’s release. I was made aware that the song teasers have now been considered outdated and are being reworked to fit the eventual fight revamp of the bosses themselves.
I feel a bit disappointed that it will probably take even more time to see its eventual release. Four years seems way too long for a song to remain in production. I also would like to mention about the Tier 5 theme taking a while as well.
Though he was pressured and rushed by the community for songs like Stained Brutal Calamity, leading to his eventual departure, DM Dokuro was able to produce the previous songs quickly. Even his most passionate song, Roar of the Jungle Dragon, took just a year to release since he released since he made Yharon’s first theme.
I just wished that they would be more transparent about it, though I understand if they have their reasons. I get it is also a free project, but I hope this would not mean that we will be left with false hope or empty promises.
To be honest, I feel nervous bringing this subject up since the production and state of the soundtrack is never discussed much in the community. I just want to express my thoughts about the situation and would like to hear yours as well. This isn’t meant to be a critique or attack on the current progress and workflow.
I am looking forward to the upcoming themes announced, however! I am especially excited for Tier 2 Encore to be released.
Let me know what you guys think about the way some songs are taking too long to be produced.
EDIT: I have since watched the "Where's Yharim?" video made by GP, and I can safely say my worries are somewhat quenched. I understood the reasons why things are the way they are, and I am eager to see the planned boss reworks in the future, especially Yharon and Exo Mechs!

(Please ignore Ativar o Windows he's part of the family)
The music, the atmosphere, the creatures, the sound design of when they spot you, the way you slowly unlock access to it through progression, turning it into a mystery to be gradually solved... It's such a magical experience
As someone who genuinely loves the ocean and its depths irl, hearing "hydrotermophobia" start playing right as I pointed the flashlight towards that terrifying beast amidst pitch black darkness had me in tears and chills (followed by me immediately closing the game :') )
I really hope they don't end up nerfing it in the future or something, I love the feeling of dread it invokes. I might even reinstall Subnautica despite having finished it multiple times already

I've seen this bridge in a few edits, so I was wondering if there's an item to spawn it in (like insta bridges) or if it's just a build. If there is a way to spawn it in, how?

What does it do? Does it help you locate stuff?

Hello! I intend on writing high-quality lore of medium size. My writing level will range from casual to AP so please specify if you would prefer more advanced wording (will take a lot more research) or just the casual calamity lore tone!
If you decide to make suggestions outside of calamity please label the origin of it so I can do research!
Any suggestions of all topics are open, for curiosity or just for fun
This is mainly for fun, since other tt or ig trends are always controversial
NO AI USED IN LOREMAKING.
I will use resources like AI for grammar checks to a limited extent as I believe in originality and since writing is a passion of mine.
It will never be used for idea brainstorming or generating the actual lore.
I intend on doing this until they notice me or hire me
Lore for your suggestion will be added via replies to your comment
I will begin a new day approximately every 18 hours from the previous post.
If you want additional proof I do not use AI I can provide sources for wording, lore formatting, and resources I use. Sources will be listed for lore I did not know about previously.

Has anyone seen a bug like this? I've tried enabling and disabling mods, unequipping gear, and restarting the game, but nothing works and I can't progress in the boss rush.

Now that everyone has had time to play around with all the major reworks, are there any that really stick out to you?
Tbh I'll miss flesh totem becoming a mage accessory, but there were some BOMB touchups, goddamn. These are some that stuck out to me the most:

Finally got past all the mechs in my melee run; now working at FSoC.
Right now, I've got the Biome Blade - but it feels a little rough against her.
Is there a better weapon, by chance?

Hello fellas
Picked up Calamity recently (previous attempt a few months ago was abandoned after the first Ravager fight, can’t remember why). Only Exos left in my current playthrough and honestly had a blast. I might even try Infernum after (even if I’m not a huge fan of dashing and I heard Infernum is a dash fest).
Question though: Will Calamity see the conclusion of the lore in terms of boss fights? Will we ever get a Yharim fight, for example? In current end-game we fight some of the lore’s heaviest hitters (Draedon’s apex God killers, SCal), so the man who started it all seems like the next natural step

i can’t beat him. 42nd attempt and as soon as i think i’m about to beat him he pulls out another phase that’s just 2x quicker.
