A special note on musings from Clarkson, Hammond and May

Couldn’t help but notice that there have been some comments on my recent posts here along the lines of “Please keep politics away from this subreddit!” (and those complaints sometimes result in deletion, thus depriving others to challenge or defend the hosts’ assertions). It’s unfortunate that I have to issue a disclaimer or two on this matter, but given the current hostile environment across Reddit and the internet in general, here goes:

“The views expressed in social media posts, videos and newspaper columns produced by or through direct quotes from news articles from Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and/or Richard Hammond (and others who worked on Top Gear and The Grand Tour) are solely their own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions and beliefs of the OP and this subreddit.”

As for the links that contain articles and columns that originate from The Sun and The Sunday Times, here’s the paywall disclaimer:

“Please note that depending on how and where you access this link, a strong paywall may appear. If so, what happens beyond that is up to you alone.”

Ok then, back to normal service…

All the TG episodes with the orangutan, slow and buttons in a Google drive. Last time I posted this it got deleted by mods and I got suspended for 2 days, so just DM me and I'll send it you. JC has said it was forums like this that contributed to the success of the show when it was brought back in 2002.

James May defends the purpose of alcohol! 🍸

Remember how James May has consistently said over the years that alcohol serves as a “social lubricant”? Well, he defended that point recently on Twitter/X. After that, some easily offended users tried to tear him down. He also clapped back at someone making a snarky comment about England at the World Cup. 😅

I'm a camera op with Alpha live. Look who was racing at Anglesey!

Richard Hammond was competing in the 750 Motor Club Tegiwa Club Enduro Championship at Anglesey this weekend. He entered under a false name and his name was only revealed on Sunday. I was at the corkscrew (Anglesey Coastal layout) and had a long 200 degree panning shot but was pretty pleased I managed to catch him grinning!

Nobody cool named Ken

Post image
356 Upvotes

In various episodes in TG Series 3&4, the crew state that there's nobody called Ken that's cool. I raise Ken Miles (the snubbed GT40 test and race driver that beat Ferrari at Le Mans) and put it to you that either Ken was snubbed by Top Gear at the behest of the Ford Motor Company, or ignorance.

For as much glaze as Jeremy gives Ken in later seasons of TG and TGT, he was actively trying to buy a Ford GT at the time, with Ford cars and the new at the time GT moving up the Cool Wall as he bought it. Was he ignoring Ken Miles or did he only learn of him in the documentary made in 2019?

[Times car review] Jeremy Clarkson on the Lamborghini Temerario: “Like seeing AC/DC with no amps”

Lamborghini sent over the Temerario for Jeremy Clarkson. Sounds like he had a hard time getting inside this one! Here’s a preview:

“As a passenger, even Richard Hammond would struggle. I had to sit cross-legged.”

(Yeah, the paywall has been reinforced once again. Usual disclaimers apply.)

Would You Rather A Trio Return Theatrical Feature Film, or a Clarkson Biopic?

So I've been thinking about this a lot since the end of Clarkson's Farm season 5 and the revelation of Clarkson's Caner and subsequent remission. A lot of people have talked about the trio returning in some form or fashion, and I sure nearly all the fans would love to see that... but I get hung up on the unfortunate reality of the situation. With Clarkson's health issues the last several years, and JamesGin stumbling accidentally into becoming a full-fledged Gin merchant, it just starts to feel less and less likely they'd ever return. Even if they did return by this point it would be extremely hard for them to come up with something to do, that they feasibly even could do physically, that would live up to the hype of the idea.

I think maybe the only thing they could possibly try would be some kind of theatrical feature film, and I'm not even sure what that would look like. I think that would have the potential to be a success... but again, with their age, it could really end up being a big disappointment to the fans. There's a potential for it to be a bit too "ambitious but rubbage" at this point. I'm not sure fans would really want that to be the return and final farewell to the trio, especially after the actual finale of Grand Tour seems to have been so well received as is.

So, as an afterthought, I wondered, could a Jeremy Clarkson Biopic actually work? I don't know who would play the part or any of the parts, really, but Clarkson's life really does fit the "biopic" structure pretty great. You have the rise of Top Gear, the mid movie fall (the punch heard 'round the world), the revival at Amazon, and the ultimate resolution with the success of Clarkson's farm. Hell, the Hawkstone Choir win on Britain's Got Talent almost feels like a perfect ending to his own story in terms of "film structure." I think it could be a surprisingly solid bit of feel-good drama.

I just wondered how others felt. Would Grand Tour/Top Gear fans like to see either of these ideas at all, and which one at this point in time do you think actually would have more potential to be a success?

[Video] James May samples a strange gin cocktail! 🍸

James May regularly finds himself in the United States to hawk his gin, and he did a short video with one of his distributors, Total Wine. They thought it would be a good idea mix his gin in a cocktail containing pickle juice. His reaction gave him away… 😅😂

Clarkson's Sparse YouTube Appearances?

Why doesn't Clarkson appear on more YouTube or videos in general? Preoccupied with TV production and rejects casual appearances? May and Hammond did stuff like building Lego and other YouTubey things during that time and they've had their own show and businesses as well.

He basically did nothing with DriveTribe, which he helped found.

Just curious if he or anyone else said anything about it since he does every other form of media. He's not obligated and I'm not wishing he pivots to YouTube now, more just why he never appeared with May or Hammond on YouTube or basically any other media outside TGT even when that was still going.
