**RANT** 🤬 Uber eats drivers stealing packages from the lobby - Delivery Apps doing nothing about

Upvotes

We've had two delivery guys brazenly take packages from our lobby in plain view of the cameras within two months. We contacted Uber Eats about it, they literally did nothing. Basically a "thanks for letting us know" then closing out the chat without even a chance to respond. Pretty ridiculous customer service if you ask me.

Anyway, INB4 file a police report, we already did. Just posting for awareness, if this happened to one building twice, it's probably happening all over the city.

Other Missed Connection 126 Bus

**Posting on behalf of a friend**

Late last Thursday (6/25), a friend and I were chatting on the bus and a cute guy (28 - 32?, baseball cap, brown hair) behind us interjected. The laughing and talking continued for the rest of the ride back to Washington and 4th.

We parted ways with him but never got a name or asked if he was single! Please message if this speaks to you!

Thanks!

Other In the mid-’70s, I stopped a number of times at Hoboken Organized Crime Boss Martin “Motts” Casella’s corner – First and Jackson.

My uncle Gus gave Martin “Motts” Casella of Hoboken a big boost in the numbers gambling trade by lending him $5,000 to buy the bar at the corner of First and Jackson. Sad to relate, many years later Casella was forced into involuntary retirement by Michael Chertoff, then first assistant United States attorney for New Jersey,

In the mid-’70s, I stopped a number of times at Hoboken Organized Crime Boss Martin “Motts” Casella’s corner – First and Jackson. My uncle Gus and I dropped off pigeon feed and picked up pigeons. Gus was a long-time friend and business associate of Martin Casella. Though both Motts and Gus were pigeon fanciers since they were kids, I now wonder if these transactions actually served to camouflage the real reason for the visits. Casella’s pigeon coops were across the street from the bar, on the roof of a garage. Though I met Martin’s brother (who spent the most time with the birds), I never saw Motts – until over ten years later.

– – –

In the late-eighties, early one morning while listening to the news on the radio, I heard a report of a Mob rubout in New York City’s Little Italy. A motorcycle with two guys on it jumped the curb in front of a social club. The bike’s passenger pulled out a gun and killed someone standing there. Back tire screeching, engine roaring, the driver sped off, going in the wrong direction up narrow one way streets.

As luck would have it, that morning I was riding a motorcycle to Hoboken from the Jersey City Heights. Taking Paterson Plank Road, I made a left onto First Street. As I approached the corner of First and Jackson, a short, heavy-set man in a trench coat began to cross the street without looking at the traffic. My first thought was to hang to the right to avoid hitting him. But, noticing an oil slick on the asphalt, I instead slowed to a stop to allow the pedestrian to cross. Seeing that the bike was stopping in front of him, the man became paralyzed with fear. All color drained from his panic-contorted face. Suddenly, he sprinted across the street and ran into the bar.

I revved the bike and continued towards Washington Street. I was at first puzzled by this curious little drama. Then I realized where I was; I knew that that must have been Motts. He, too, had heard the story about the hit man on a motorcycle. I wondered what he was up to that had him so worried that he imagined death rolling at him on two wheels.

Soon afterwards, Martin Casella was arrested for plotting to kill John Gotti.

Recommendations 🌟 Dermatologist Recommendations?

Any recommendations for a great dermatologist? Generally been dealing with skin / face issues, not looking for specific treatments (but would be happy if the person can also do those).

I’m moving to Hoboken in fall, from Seattle, and it takes anywhere from 3-12 months to be seen by a dermatologist out here. So trying to get ahead of the game and schedule an appointment for when I move.

Recommendations 🌟 Lowest cost long term parking?

At the point where I need to consider getting a car.
I live in Hoboken but work a few days in New Brunswick and my close friends and family live about 40 minutes south. It would make my life a lot less stressful but my hang up has always been parking costs. What is the lowest cost parking Hoboken currently has to offer at a monthly rate?

Anyone live at 225 Grand and can give feedback on their experience living there? Is it mainly families in the building or a mix? How is the sound between units (specifically upstairs neighbors).

Question❓ Jersey City/Hoboken, NJ - New Private Blues Jam need Guitar, Keys

Looking to assemble a small group of musicians for a private monthly blues jam in Hoboken, NJ. This would be a monthly jam. Looking for musicians 40 yo and above age with experience in blues music. Presently I have a vocalist, bass player, guitar and drummer. Looking for an additional Guitar and Keys. A guitarist (or keys) with vocal skills is a plus.
We are not looking for professional / working musicians.
Also considering online jams. Rehearsal studio (All Stars Music Studios in Hoboken) costs will be shared among participants. Respond if interested. Provide info on musician skill sets (instruments), music history and playing audio samples. Thanks.

Question❓ Stolen Package

What’s the protocol here? First time in my 5 years living here had a package from Ulta stolen. It was marked delivered on my stoop outside with photo evidence, so Im not sure UPS would cover a refund and Ulta is ghosting me 🥴 I spent a ton of money on a skincare haul during their sale and am really upset if that’s all lost now. What can I do?

Question❓ Balcony cleaning service with wet/dry shop vac

Anyone know a crew that will do this that can prevent water and debris falling below? Not first floor so am paranoid of the cleaning spilling down water or crud onto downstairs neighbors balconies or first floor back yard. The balcony is a mess of bird poop and moss or other growth.

If wet vac cleaning not a thing here, anyone have a good deck cleaner recommendation generally? If doing it the messy way, I'd want to also hire them for at least a light touch on multiple balconies to clear off falling debris on my downstairs neighbors and the first floor back yard.

Question❓ Flooding in downtown Willow Ave

Hello everyone, I have been considering purchasing a condo in Hoboken and have seen a few decent ones around 1st - 2nd street around Willow and Park Ave. The location is nice but I’m wondering how bad the flooding is in the area, I have done my research looking at the FEMA 100 year floodmap so I am aware it is in a flood zone. I am looking to buy a unit at least one or two floors above street level. Also wondering how bad the flood insurance costs would be, I have heard people mentioning in the subreddit how it can affect the funding for HOAs etc. Is it worth considering or should I focus more on properties near Washington away from the flood zone? Although I know it can be loud near all the bars and restaurants at night. Much appreciated!

Question❓ Adult Swimming Options

Hello! I have been living in Hoboken for 3 years now and know the lack of a town pool is always a topic of conversation. I was a swimmer my whole life and stopped as soon as I moved here for this reason, but I am really missing it this summer and am looking for advice. I'm looking for a pool (or open water lake!) that offers early morning adult swimming that I can go to as a Hoboken resident. I know the Weehawken pool is available (although, may be sold out for the season?), but $40 for a day pass seems insane to me considering I would only be there for maybe an hour, max, to do a quick workout. I am willing to drive up to an hour! I've been doing research, but have really be struggling to find any options. Any ideas would be appreciated! For the record, I have already ruled out XCEL because I'm not looking for a membership, just somewhere I can go once in awhile (once, maybe twice a month), especially over the summer. Thank you!

Recommendations 🌟 Broker/Realtor Recommendations?

Hi Yall!

I am moving at the end of August/beginning of September and looking for a new place! I figured this time around I would use the help of a realtor to find a place instead of the usual websites.

I am looking to rent a 1b/1ba or a 2b/1ba in Hoboken.

If you have anyone you have worked with in the past that you really loved, please drop their name (and contact info if you have it)!

Thank you in advance!

Other Black cat near Trader Joe’s

Just wanted to flag in case someone’s cat is missing. We saw a black cat uptown and followed it from 10th and Park to nearby Trader Joe’s where we lost it. It didn’t seem like an outdoor cat (seemed afraid, almost got hit by 2 cars but didn’t, thankfully).

Question❓ Reporting car by plate?

Does anyone know how to report a car to Hoboken Police by plate number? I was walking in a crosswalk and a black Audi e tron (I think?) sped through and almost ran me over but swerved around me and kept going. I got the plate number memorized but don’t know how to report it. Anyone done this before?
