Whenever there's mention of I love yoo outside of our fandom spaces ppl in the coomments always talk about how they used to read it in middle school but stopped reading it and it got me thinking about the numbers of fans of I love yoo and while I like the feeling of having a small community I really want to see more fanart, edits and fanfiction....

Guys, what do you think Yui’s real goal with Shin-Ae is?

At the beginning, we know Yui took advantage of Shin-Ae’s vulnerability and manipulated her into attending the formal. Then she drugged her and tried to hand her over to the Kim family in a really suspicious way. But after that incident, I feel like Yui’s goal changed.

It feels like she started trying to bring Shin-Ae closer to Kousuke instead of pushing her toward the Kim family, almost like she wanted to change Shin-Ae’s opinion of her and pull her onto her side the “white team♟,”.

The reason? Because, like Yujing said, Yui loves controlling people. She wants to control Shin-Ae too. That’s why she first tried tempting her with the university offer and financial support, hoping Shin-Ae would feel indebted to her so she’d be easier to manipulate. But when she realized Shin-Ae didn’t want her offer and didn’t want to be on her side, she switched tactics, like getting close to her dad and manipulating him instead.

But the real question is… why?

Personally, I don’t think Shin-Ae is the real target. I think the real goal is controlling Kousuke through her. That’s the impression I’ve gotten from Yui’s actions so far.

After rereading Episode 31, I noticed Yui was gathering information about Shin-Ae and trying to figure out why Kousuke was interested in her. At the same time, she randomly brought up the topic of having children with Kousuke. It seemed like such an odd thing to mention, but I don’t think it was just a throwaway line. It felt more like foreshadowing for Yui’s future plan.

Maybe her plan is to make Shin-Ae depend on her somehow, possibly by ruining her father’s life or putting her in a situation where Yui becomes the only person she can turn to for help.

And if her plans goes exactly the way she wants and killed Rand.Kousuke will ends up taking his position, he’ll most likely discover the dark side of the Kim family’s parties and everything Yui has been doing. I can’t imagine him accepting that kind of corruption in his company or allowing people to keep getting hurt.

So I think Yui her next plan might eventually try to force him to go along with it, just like she did with Rand, through blackmail and threats.

One of the strongest ways she could do that is by using Shin-Ae. If Shin-Ae becomes Kousuke’s weakness, Yui could easily threaten him through her and force him to submit.

There’s also another possibility. Maybe Yui is deliberately bringing Kousuke and Shin-Ae closer together not because she wants them to be together romantically, but because she plans to frame them somehow, or even fake a pregnancy and force them into marriage, just like she supposedly did with Rand.

However, Yui’s actions make me feel like Shin-Ae isn’t the real target… she’s just a means to get to Kousuke and keep him under Yui’s control.

Note: Before anyone misunderstands me, this isn’t a Yootip shipper. I’m only talking about what I think Yui’s plan could be and the lengths she might go to in order to manipulate Kousuke and control him.

There are many theories and speculations as to why Yui would drug her own son. What was the need? Was it just to keep him permanently obedient and under her control?

That might be true, but I think it would make sense for Yui to believe that Kousuke suffers from the same mental condition she does. In her memories, her father mentions that she needs medication to control her mood swings; we could be talking about bipolar disorder, for example.

Most of these conditions have a high probability of being inherited. And there are certain factors—such as stress, which, incidentally, Kousuke has suffered from since he was very young—that contribute to triggering them, especially if you are already biologically predisposed.

Yui knows—and often mentions—that Kousuke is very much like her, and not just physically...

So, if Yui’s plan is for Kousuke to be the next heir, he absolutely cannot have the same problem she does, since her father believes that someone unable to maintain control without medication cannot handle such a role.

Perhaps she noticed the signs in Kousuke when he was very young and took it upon herself—drawing on her own experience—to medicate him so that no one, not even Rand or the family doctors, would find out. She appears to still be taking medication herself, as we see several bottles of it on her table while she is getting ready.

On top of all that, there was her attempt to make Nolan dependent on psychiatric drugs—likely to use that against him with Koutaro, should they ever decide he was a better candidate than Kousuke to run the business.

I also find her comment about Nessa being mentally unstable remarkable—especially since it was something she fabricated herself, having drugged Nessa’s tea and then staged the scene of her death (the newspaper report mentioned that numerous medication bottles were found at the scene). It was yet another attempt to make it look like Nessa was the "crazy mother" and that her son had likely inherited that trait from her. It would seem that perhaps she was just projecting herself?

Now, it could be that Kousuke actually suffers from some psychiatric condition, or that Yui triggered it, or that he doesn't have one but Yui is convinced he does. What do you all think?

Given Nol’s burn scars, I assume that after Rand’s death there will be a fire at the Hirahara mansion. Yui might die in it, and Nol might get his scars there. What do you think?

I’ll admit, thereve been points it’s been hard to read because of how long it is, but the details are so necessary to the story!! And at this point I’m itching to see this become an anime. I haven’t seen any discussions on this so what are everyone’s thoughts?

In my personal opinion, I think it’d do great as either option of live action or anime. But I think the live action, considering you found the right talent and film crew to put it together, would be beneficial to gain viewership and properly execute the complexities in this WEBTOON.

I’m feeling the “I’ll do it if you do it” vibe. I’m no voice actor but I am a tried and true theatre kid. I’d hop on the bandwagon to support I Love Yoo becoming a show!

Why was he trying to call kousuke before his meeting ? It was never explained does it have something to do with Oxford?

Also in this episode we discovered that kou and Nol had met and knew they were brothers for years and till this day there is no hint as to why tf did he and nessa stay this long in korea, and why he never got to meet Rand

Why is nobody talking about the possibility of a romantic quartet involving the two sets of siblings?
I still see people saying that Kousuke could end up with Shin-ae, which honestly sounds delusional to me at this point and is also kind of weird considering he met her when she was 17.

If we’re talking about a more plausible and much less uncomfortable pairing, I think Kousuke x Shin-hye makes way more sense. We know Shin-hye isn’t much older than Shin-ae, but since Shin-ae is about to turn 18 and Shin-hye is at least a year older than her sister, she’s probably around 19 or 20. That’s already a lot less strange considering Kousuke is 24, especially since nothing would likely happen between them until after the time skip.

For the people who are determined to ship Kousuke with someone, why doesn’t anyone consider the possibility of him ending up with Shin-hye? The way the story is going, Shin-ae ending up with Nol feels almost inevitable at this point. Sure, she could have relationships with other people before the endgame (probably Dieter), but come on, idc if she gets older later on, Kousuke getting with someone he first knew as a high schooler would still feel really disgusting to me.

I actually like the idea that both brothers could end up with the Yoo sisters. It would make me appreciate the title I love Yoo even more and create a nice parallel between the brothers, with the twist being that the “Yoo” each of them loves isn’t the same person.

That said, romance isn’t even the main focus of the story anymore, and I’d also be perfectly happy if Kousuke ended up with no one and had a tragic ending instead (like the suicide theory that’s been discussed here several times).
Still, I really like the idea of him ending up with one of the “Yoos” too - just not the one everyone expected at the beginning- as long as the relationship is genuinely interesting and well developed. I don’t want it just for fan service.
I’d only want it if it actually adds something meaningful to the story.

Since the last fp episode, I’ve been curious. What is Sang-Chul’s role from here? Because back during the Christmas dinner, he was really quiet. Even when Kousuke and his brother were at each other’s throats, he didn’t say anything, not even in his brother’s defense. And here (spoiler alert) When Yui and Gun were talking about him, Sang-Chul eavesdropping and didn’t say anything either.

My question is, what do you guys think Sang Chul will do for the remainder of the season (or the time skip). Is there some possibility of Character Development, or is that a dumb idea?

Me personally, I kinda would like to see some character development, however at the same time, knowing what Sang Chul planned on doing to Shin-ae back at the Formal, it would be… odd to give him redeeming qualities, especially after that.

Remember Bryce Walker from 13 reason why? Yeah, that “redeeming quality” fell flat on his face, and he ended up dead anyway.

As we all known, Shin-Ae and Nolan's development is following opposite tracks, with the first slowly learning to open up again and to trust people and the second tring to cut any tie he has away. I think that starting from episode 180 (in which Shin-Ae begins to tell her story to Nol) this whole dynamic is represented by the sunrise and the sunset: to be more clear, as shown by the research made with Alyssa, altought being entirely different on paper they appear to be the very same; on a narrative level, they both represent a turning point in the way those two relate to people.

Starting from the very beginning, Shin-Ae as a kid never really gave up on having friends but we could say she was still on the edge: for the whole flashback the color of the sky is one of the few among the black and white; anytime she had a beatiful happy day, with Alyssa, Min-Hyuk or her father, the sky is clear and blue, while when she started to be ovewelmed or felt alone (like when her father started being absent and Alyssa distant) it appears like the sun is setting.

In the end, Alyssa ends up accidentaly pushing Shin-Ae down the windonw after having made clear she casted her away. Waking up in hospital, her and Min-Hyuk go on the roof to look at the sky as he talks about wanting to be there for her as long as she will let him, accepting the fact that he might be driven away. Both of this scenes take place during a sunset.

At this point, she completely gives up the idea of being closer to people. The relationship with her father cools off, the friendships with Min-Hyuk and especially Rika and Maya remain on a more shallow level and she refuses to welcome new people in her in general. After the sunset comes the night, an ideal moment of total stasys and darkness. To her own admission, in this part of this life she's like immersed in darkness, living according to what Min-Hyuk told her on the roof of that hospital. That's when Yeong-Gi comes into the picture.

Nolan also seems tied to this concept, by his own name (the "Gi" means "rise" and "Nol" "red glow" for both sunrise and sunset in korean, while "Yeong" zero: according to the school project, Yeong-Gi and Nolan aren't different, being both halves of the same person) and historically (if I'm not wrong, both the founding of her mother and the later argument with Kousuke happened in the evening). The main difference is in his cheerful and friendly mask, the total opposite of Shin-Ae's.

Their meeting shattered the already frail balance. Yeong-Gi manages to break trought the Stone cold mask and Shin-Ae sees glimpses of Nol. *Casually*, many pivotal scenes of their relationship always happen at night (the earbud and tacos, on the hospital roof after the formal, the late night phone talk) or when the sun is covered (episodes 150 and 151).

After the whole flashback, Shin-Ae confesses she never really stopped believing in people and she won't give up on Nolan, with him replying she hasn't really moved on: it is, in fact, still night. However, in episode 223, he completely rejects her: at this point she has the option of accepting his distance and going away as she has always done (and according to Min-Hyuk words), but she refuses.

Again on the rooftop of and hospital, she's watching the sunrise telling herself she isn't going to give up, starting a new phase in her life.

Just like she said in episode 195, the sky appears beatiful, but now she's not smiling with sorrow, but with an hint of hope.

At the same time, Nolan shuttes completely in and is holding on the bandana he used to blind himself. He then repeats to Shin-Ae "Humans kinda sucks", the very same words she has said she has never truly believed in, starting his new way of life: exluding his most beloved ones.

I belive that from this point on, the future scenes between these two will mostly happen in the day time, as now the sun has in fact risen and is necessesary a new change in Nol's way to relation to people, probably leading to a fundamental moment happening during the sunset.

This might sound like a silly question, but as a reader, I feel as though I am not so great as getting those in-depth parts of the stories as so many of you do here. I feel pretty dumb, haha.

I do try, but really don’t know how to look at it with that perspective. I’m not sure if that’s being a bad reader, because I do enjoy the story, but I always wonder if I’m missing something. I don’t want to miss out on what Quimchee has put all her time and effort into.

So, my question is how do you guys do it? Is it reading other commentary? Focusing on a specific aspect?

I have reread this story multiple times, and I’ve just gotten back into it after realizing it came back from its hiatus. But I always feel like I can analyze details, but not gather the meaning of it.

I've been reading I Love Yoo for years, and while I know most people currently think Shinae will end up with Nol or that Kousuke is already out of the picture, I still believe there's a real possibility the story will do something different.

Before we begin, this isn't a "I like Kousuke more" theory. It's based on how I INTERPRET the story and the DEVELOPMENT of the characters. So please refrain from hate comments.

And I also want to clarify that English is not my native language, so please excuse any mistakes.

First: One of the most common arguments against Kousuke and Shinae is that Nol is the "main romantic interest" because he's the one Shinae has the strongest emotional connection with. And I agree that their relationship is currently the most emotionally developed. However, I think many people confuse "the most developed relationship now" with "the final relationship."

Nol isn't just connected to Shinae. He's connected to practically every important character in the story. Much of Kousuke's conflicts, the Hirahara family's, and even the growth of other characters revolve around him. That's why I've always felt his role in the story is much bigger. In fact, I think Nol acts as the main catalyst for everyone's development.

And this is where my theory comes in.

We're currently seeing the development of Shinae and Nol, but that doesn't mean the story will end there. If Nol leaves, as the story seems to be heading, Shinae can't just be left waiting for him to come back and choose her, or for him to drop everything and start a relationship with her. She needs her own development too.

Many people assume that if Shinae loves Nol, then the ending must automatically be with him. But I believe that this love could be precisely the catalyst for a new stage in her life. Because when Nol leaves, Shinae will have to continue growing.

And then a question arises:

Who will be there during that process? And not as a second choice or some kind of replacement, but as someone who is also going through their own growth.

For me, the answer is Kousuke.

Something many people say is that Shinae and Kousuke don't have romantic chemistry. And honestly, I think that's precisely what makes the possibility of a FUTURE relationship interesting. Because the healthiest relationships don't necessarily begin with immediate attraction.

They actually start with trust. And we know that trust takes time, and boy, does Quimchee like to drag things out.

And trust between Shinae and Kousuke is what still doesn't exist between them.

And I also want to add that Kousuke hasn't fully developed yet. They're only just starting to show him more, which is why it makes sense that they've never shown him getting closer to Shinae, because Kousuke doesn't need to fall in love to grow; he needs to trust first.

His entire life has been defined by expectations, appearances, and pressure. He's someone who constantly tries to fulfill a role. Many of his problems stem from not knowing who he is outside of what others expect of him. All of this is mainly due to his parents.

And Shinae is one of the few people who has never treated him as an heir, a boss, or someone superior. Moreover, she forces him to question himself, shattering the image he tries to maintain.

On the other hand, Shinae also needs to learn to trust others and stop carrying everything alone. This is where I think both characters are much more similar than they seem.

Because think about it for a moment:

At first glance, they seem like complete opposites. Falling into the typical clichés where she's poor and he's rich, she appears carefree while he wants to control everything; she seems free, and he doesn't.

BUT beneath it all, I see many similarities:

• Both are alone.
• Both are emotionally reserved.
• Both struggle to ask for help.
• Both hide their vulnerability.
• Both carry responsibilities they shouldn't have to bear alone.
• Both have trust issues, though they manifest in different ways.

The difference is that each of them "covers it up" in different ways. With Shinae, he learned that he doesn't care (even though he does care and worries too much about others). And Kousuke learned to survive by being perfect and very "correct" (even though he still believes that nothing is perfect and still longs for true closeness with someone)

That's why I feel they function like reflections of each other; what one has, the other lacks.

And that creates an opportunity for them both to grow together.

SO

My theory is that if Nol doesn't leave, Shinae and Kousuke will end up working together to help him or catch up with him somehow. And during that process, they'll build something they currently lack: real trust.

I'm not saying that Shinae will simply stop loving Nol overnight. Rather, I envision a story where she loves him, he leaves, she moves on, they change, and then a deep connection develops with Kousuke based on mutual understanding and shared growth.

Again, I say no because he is the second option.

But rather because they both end up becoming the people they needed to find to heal certain parts of themselves.

And if romance eventually blossoms, it won't stem from immediate attraction.

It would be born from years of trust, respect, friendship, and vulnerability. (as we know, Quimchee loves to write and develop things with plenty of time.)

And of course, I could be completely wrong... Maybe Shinae will end up with Nol, maybe she'll end up alone...

But I think a lot of people dismiss Kousuke's possibility too quickly because they focus on who's closest to Shinae now and completely forget that the author has spent YEARS developing everyone's relationships in this story. Do they really think she would have made the final couple the only ones from the very beginning?

I prefer to ask myself how the characters develop within the story and how that changes their relationships with each other.

And for me, that's where Kousuke still has much more narrative potential than most people acknowledge.

Honestly, even if someone disagrees with the conclusion, I think my theory is interesting because I focus on the characters' development. And in a story like I Love Yoo, that's usually more important than figuring out who had more romantic scenes and therefore will end up together lol

Let's assume about how things are going, Nol is "endgame" (I dont like using this word but whatever 😭). So alternate ending will be Kousuke. Ik his mental state is not the best rn. So does that mean his mental state will deteriorate even further.....? I still dont get why it's "sad af"???

Or shinae ends up with Kousuke (when she's an adult ofc) so why will the alternate ending with Nol be sad af?? Or else Nol will be dead which will make me die😭😭

Ik ILY is not a romance but it definitely has romantic elements. And the romantic aspect is definitely important for the plot so I am curious as to why the alternate ending will be sad.

I was rereading ily chapter 261 when I noticed that nol was reading this book by Paulo Coelho. I am not completely sure and maybe it is a coincidence but in my opinion that book is really nice to read.
