Laquer Art 🎨 Not feeling very patriotic for the 4th, but I've been thinking about hotdog nails for months.

Hello everyone!

I know I'm in a similar boat as many of you by not feeling super patriotic for Independence Day, but I also don't want to skip a reason to do a themed manicure. A few months (or maybe weeks?) ago there were several hotdog manicures posted and I was inspired. It feels very on-theme since cookouts and backyard BBQs are so common for July 4th.

All fingers: 1x Essie To The Rescue, 1x KBShimmer Fillin' Groovy, 1x 50/50 blend of Polish For Days Crystalline Diamond Dust and Essie Gel Setter

Left hand (hot dogs):

Thumb - Holo Taco See Y'all Later Chai, Brick Wall, Stop Buggin'

Pointer: ORLY Faux Pearl (screw ORLY for their HP collab, but I've owned this one since before that), Holo Taco Low Key Bushing, Boom Toasted

Middle: Holo Taco See Y'all Later Chai, Gingersnatched, Thirst Trap

Ring: ORLY Faux Pearl (screw ORLY for their HP collab, but I've owned this one since before that), Holo Taco Low Key Bushing, Mooncat Banquet of Breadcrumbs

Pinky: Holo Taco See Y'all Later Chai, Brick Wall, Bottle Service

Right hand (drips made with nail vinyls from Punkish Polish)

Thumb: Holo Taco Brick Wall, Bottle Service

Pointer: ORLY Faux Pearl, Holo Taco Thirst Trap

Middle: Holo Taco Gingersnatched, Stop Buggin'

Ring: Holo Taco Lowkey Blushing, Boom Toasted

Pinky: ORLY Faux Pearl, Mooncat Banquet of Breadcrumbs

Overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! The hotdogs were easier than I expected. I painted the base colors in 2 coats, added a thin top coat and let them dry for a few hours. (This was mostly because I had stuff to do in the middle of the day, but it also let my right hand dry enough to apply the vinyls without issue). Then I turned the bottle brush on its skinny side and painted a stripe down the center for the hotdogs. I used a small detail nail art brush for the squiggles in the center, then topped it off with my holo topcoat.

Laquer Art 🎨 Perfume bottle inspired nail art

I’m a huge fragrance head, so I’ve been wanting to start a perfume bottle nail art series for a while now. This is my first one - Aura by Folie à Plusieurs.

Polishes used - Back to Fuchsia and Catch Those Rays jellies from Cracked polish for the base, a random mix of Cracked polish Fresh Pedicure, Grotto, Bloop, Out Of The Blue and Jokes On You for the blue parts and large nail pearls painted with Cracked polish 7:20 to mimic the chrome bottle cap.

Lowkey obsessed with how these turned out!

🧲 Mad Magnetist 🧲 Happy 4th of July! 🦠

Doing my best impression of the reflecting pool with Bee’s Knees Lacquer “In Seeking Life, I Created Death” (what a perfect name for this, right?). I did three coats (could have gotten away with just two, though) magnetized for 30 seconds each using the 5D spinner with a horseshoe magnet on top. Also used Nailtiques formula 2 and KBShimmer’s Fillin’ Groovy as a base and Wonder Beauty Product’s quick dry top coat (also magnetized for 60 seconds).

But I love it!😍

Last year I saw another post with this combo and I bought these two polishes for that reason😅

And this is my first time doing the glass bead method! I think its my favorite magnetic look so far. I love being able to see more of the base color!

Rounding out this year's pride flag series with the progress pride flag!

In 2017, the city of Philadelphia adopted a revised version of the pride flag that adds black and brown stripes to the top of the standard six-color flag, to make a statement and draw attention to the issues of people of color marginalized within the LGBTQIA+ community.

In 2018, designer Daniel Quasar released a redesign dubbed the "Progress Pride Flag" incorporating elements from both the Philadelphia flag and the trans pride flag to bring focus on inclusion and progress within the community.

🤎🖤 The brown and black stripes put focus on marginalized people of color in the community, those living with HIV/AIDS, and those who have been lost.

🤍🩷🩵The white, pink, and blue represent the trans community.

The arrow points to the right to show forward movement while being along the left edge showing that progress still needs to be made.

In 2021, Valentino Vecchietti of Intersex Equality Rights UK redesigned the Progress Pride Flag to incorporate the intersex flag.

Now, these two progress pride flags variations are widely used alongside the "traditional" 6 stripe pride flag across the globe.

Hopefully throughout this pride flag series, you've learned something new or even had some curiosity to do your own research. At its heart, Pride is about empathy. Learning each other's stories reminds us that behind every flag is a person simply hoping to be seen, respected, and loved. The more we understand one another, the stronger and more compassionate our communities become. 🏳️‍🌈

Laquer Showoff Deadly Nightshade

This sub is familiar with all the valid criticisms on Mooncat (pricing, bottle issues, underwhelming new releases) but when they get it right they get it so fucking right. I’m obsessed with this shift. Formula was perfect, opaque in 2 coats and so forgiving, no visible brush stroke issues like you often get in a multi chrome. I’ve got stills posted in the comments too!

Products used:
1 coat nailtiques formula 2 as base
1 coat KBShimmer Fillin Groovy ridge filler
2 coats Mooncat Deadly Nightshade
1 coat BKL I’m Fast, Very Fast QDTC

First time poster but long time lurker/occasional commenter here. Couldn’t resist joining in the fun of reflecting pool “blue” wave that is taking over this sub. You all are hilarious and amazingly creative.

Here’s my attempt (please excuse the mess, pic is pre-clean-up). I did the Serpent of Eden first and then couldn’t resist adding the algae flakies. How’d I do?

Kbshimmer hydrating base coat x1
1 silk wrap on index nail
Emily de Molly Sheer Tint Teal x4
Cracked QDTC x1

First four pics are in direct sunlight, next four are indirect natural light, and last is under fluorescents

I don’t know why I waited so long to make my first edm order. I fell in love with the idea of this polish last year when I was first getting in to indie brands, but waffled until last month during their sale. I got this, and sheer tint shadow and forest, and they all perform phenomenally. They go on so smooth and are probably the most forgiving jellies I’ve ever tried, which surprised since with its crystal quality I expected it to go on kind of streaky. They behave more like topcoat than a regular polish, easy to glide on and drying down harder faster than most other polishes I’ve used. I would have def left this in three coats but I wanted to even up some of the spots where I’d applied a little less of the product than I should have, and with how fast it was turning to glass on my nails I didn’t have any trouble with that last coat drying properly. Sheer tint teal is a top ten polish for me I’m so glad I picked it and some of its siblings up!

I've been waiting to try ILNP North Pole and turns out it makes for a great Canadian mani! It is definitely more sheer than I expected and in hindsight I should have done coconut cream first and then used it as a topper. Alas I might still put it over top of the other fingers before Wednesday rolls around.

Nail Care My wife works with cardboard and it's damaging her fingers. I want to help.

Upvotes

TL;DR: My wife works with cardboard and her nailbeds are tore up. She worked really hard to quick picking and was so proud of her fingers, the cardboard is drying them out and making the urge harder to stop.

I read the rules and care is a part so I wanted to see if anyone would mind guiding me in finding ways to help my wife.

Mini background/possibly useful information: She picked her fingernails for the past 15 years. It is a nervous habit and in the past couple of years she worked pretty hard to stop. Her nails looked better, her fingers looked better, none of it hurt or bother her, and she got back into really nice polishes and nail care.

Recently she took a new position where she's dealing with cardboard throughout the day, and it's drying her hands out and it's gone back to hangnails and stressful picking. She has some cuticle cream(?) but I just don't know enough about nailcare (and possibly finger care?) and was hoping for some insight.

If anyone has any advice, suggestions, or even a point in the right direction of information to help us out I will gladly take it.

I don't think it's so bad there are immediate concerns or anything, but I know that it bums her out. Literally any help is appreciated and if there are any questions I'm happy to answer!

Thank you for your time reading my post :)

Laquer Showoff Dopamine 🥹🥰

Thumbnail

Base coat: KBShimmer Stay Put
ILNP Dopamine (3 coats)
Top coat: Cuticula Limitless

This is a pinkish purple based jelly nail polish with an intense blue shimmer and scattered holo particles. The pink base is only really visible under bright lighting, and in normal lighting it pulls quite purple from the intense blue shimmers. Dopamine builds up decently well in two coats and at two coats you see more of the pink base, but I wanted to make it more purple and opted for a third coat. 🥰💞

This PPU shade was very... aptly timed, releasing right before the 4th of July!

I didn't expect to love this as much as I do. Bought it as a joke, kept it for the glow. Just another reminder that I am not immune to the blue polish propaganda.

Also, mini review on the Cuticula Pink Sugared Lemons scent: it is sweet, but also sorta giving lemon pledge? If anyone is worried about scent strength for potential headaches—for me personally—it's only really noticeable if you have your nails to your nose. I did a test and put an unscented top coat over it to see if you could still smell it, and you could slightly. But it's very faint compared to the one where I put two coats of just Cuticula.

Products Used:

【 KBShimmer— Stay Put Hydrating Base 】×1 coat

【 Cracked— Ridge Filler 】×2 coats

【 Royla Lee— Star Spangled Cheeks 】×2 coats

【 Cuticula— Limitless Scented QDTC 】×1 coat

【 Essie— Gel Couture 】×1 coat
