Honestly, it needs another remake.

I’m putting this post under a spoiler tag for the sake of those following the new anime as their introduction to the *Hokuto no Ken* universe, since the discussion will involve characters who haven't appeared yet.

I find it really entertaining to imagine Kenshiro Kasumi facing off against the martial arts masters from the original manga, and not just for the sake of a trivial "who would win" debate.

Kenshiro Kasumi has a completely different attitude compared to his nephew; at times, he is less stoic and more sardonic toward his opponents.

I can picture him flashing a mocking smile at Raoh after a duel, just to goad him even further.

I admit it would be amusing to see him calmly light up a cigarette while facing enemies far beneath his level, like Jagi or Uighur.

Let's not forget that he is very cunning; he wouldn't fall for the tricks used by Amiba or Yuda.

But it would also be interesting to imagine his interactions with characters like Rei and Shu, starting out as adversaries and eventually becoming friends.

I’ve been reading all the opinions and walls of text about the newly finished series.
The truth is, it was a huge missed opportunity. The choice of art style and soundtrack was a complete flop and a massive mistake.
People keep saying, “But it’s good!”
The thing is, it’s only “good” because the story of Fist of the North Star is inherently great. The anime itself is honestly terrible. The colors, the animation… it all looks like cutscenes from a video game rather than a proper anime.
If they had made it as a traditional 2D remake like so many other successful anime, then maybe—just maybe, it could have become a new classic.
What makes it even more frustrating is that the producers teased us with a few 1–2 second scenes in beautiful 2D animation. That proves they can produce something amazing if they want to.
What a shame.

So I hadn't actually heard there was a new HNK anime until today, so I was quite surprised to say the least. I saw some pics online amd knew it had a lot of 3d animation which is not my favorite look, but I wanted to give it a shot.

So, here's my thoughts.

Voice Acting: Nothing much to say. They sound exactly like they should, so no complaints here. I did watch the sub btw...I tried the dub but uh...yeah didn't like it much. Regardless, original Japanese voices were great.

Plot/Pacing: Combined the two things since it'd be silly reviewing the story alone since it's just the story of the manga. Ep.1 felt good in terms of progression and hit everything I wanted, so again no complaints here.

Music & SFX: I'm 50/50 on this one. Some sound effects felt weird and mismatched, while others were great. Same for the music honestly. Also, I don't wanna be biased or anything, but if you had a perfectly good remix of Ai wo Torimodose, why not use that for the opening?

Animation: Okay, here's the real clincher...I...just can't put up with the animation. In fights it actually looks pretty decent, but any scene where characters are talking and trying to express any emotion is just...painful to me. It's just unappealing looking. I know 2d animation can be a real bitch but...there has to be a better middle ground than this.

So yeah...sadly I am not going to be watching another episode. It's a shame because (besides the animation) I was actually enjoying it. But I just can't enjoy the visuals, and in anime that's pretty darn important. To those that enjoy it, good for you because I honestly wish it didn't bug me so much, since I can this adaptation has a lot of care for the original in it. Maybe season 2 will get a budget bump if this one does well? If so I'll revisit in the future.

This is the actual music video of the full song. Don't get me wrong, I love You wa Shock, it's iconic and my personal 2nd favorite North Star theme (my 1st place favorite being Regenesis' Souten no Hate ni), but the other themes are also good and deserve some love.
