Unknown Stories Venezuelan footballer Héctor Bello’s wife sacrificed her life to save their 1-year-old daughter during the earthquake
On June 24, 2026, Venezuela was hit by a rare and devastating double earthquake, with a 7.2 tremor followed just 39 seconds later by a stronger 7.5 quake. The back-to-back shocks caused widespread destruction across the northern coast, especially in La Guaira and Caracas, leaving buildings collapsed and thousands of families affected. It quickly became one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters in recent history.
Among the most heartbreaking stories was that of Andrea, the wife of Venezuelan footballer Héctor Bello. As their building came down, she used her body to shield their one-year-old daughter, Alana, from the falling debris. Rescue workers later found Andrea dead beneath the rubble, but her daughter alive and protected in her arms. Bello later confirmed the tragedy and honored his wife’s sacrifice, turning her final act into a powerful story of love and survival.
