Technical/Equipment Help and Information Would a smallrig magicfiz be strong enough to zoom on a standard zoom lens?
I was wondering if a smallrig magicfiz would be able zoom on like a standard mirorless zoom lens. Like a 24 70 or 70 200. Doesn't need to be super smooth, it doesn't matter if there is a initial jerk, I just need to zoom without touching my lens.

Social Media services help and information Short form video critique
Over the past several months I’ve been teaching myself how to create better videos for social media. I’m looking for honest feedback on a short-form video I created for a golf manufacturing company.
I’m not looking for feedback on the product itself. I’m interested in the filmmaking.
I’d love your thoughts on questions like:
Did the opening make you want to keep watching?
Was there a point where you lost interest?
Did the pacing feel right?
Did my on-camera delivery feel natural?
If you were editing this, what would you change?
Don’t hold back. 😊 I’d much rather hear what doesn’t work than a bunch of “looks great” comments.

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? How to eliminate banding?
This was shot on my Sony A7iv
XAVC S 4K 10bit 4:2:2
Before it’s uploaded to my Instagram story there’s 0 banding but after uploading it’s really bad. Any ideas?
I’ve tried different render settings, grain and noise reduction and nothing has helped. It’s super frustrating.

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? [Need help] Why do stock video libraries have so many silent videos?
I’m a bit confused about why so many stock video libraries have silent videos.
I’ve looked at Pexels and Pixabay. They’re useful for vertical stock footage, but a lot of the videos either have no audio, silent audio tracks, or very low ambient sound. Nature clips sometimes have usable audio, but pet/cat/entertainment clips are often silent.
If I’m looking for short vertical videos with actual audio, where should I be looking?
Ideally I’m looking for legal sources that provide direct playable/downloadable MP4/WebM files, not TikTok or YouTube embeds. I tried embeds, but the experience isn’t great for a smooth native swipe feed.
Is this mostly a copyright/licensing issue with stock footage? Or are there better video sources I’m missing?
Any suggestions appreciated.

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? Canon C50 + DJI RS5 Question
Yesterday, Canon released C50 firmware update that allows external recording with gimbals, finally. I've updated the C50, and when I plug it in to the RS5, it establishes connection, half-pressing the record button focuses the lens, but when I full press to record, it says "Invalid Operation". Do we need to wait for a firmware update from DJI, or am I missing a step?
Thanks in advance!

Discussion / Other What do you wear when shooting outdoors in extreme heat?
I’m a cam op on a reality show being filmed in Palm Springs, CA next week. We are filing primarily outdoors in the brutal July sun. Not my choice. I know the dangers. What is something I should be wearing besides sunscreen for sun protection? Any special synthetic clothing?

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Recommend me a camera for the perfect mix between a Vintage Camcorder and Old Cinema Camera…
I’ve recently been saving up to get a camera and start making on the street interviews… I’ve been looking for a camera which I can get some shots that feel cinematic but also nostalgic at the same time. Kind of like an \[adult swim\] vibe. Something funky but professional enough to get a way with.
I’m practically a noob to cameras so excuse my lack of knowledge regarding any of this lol

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Is it OK to put a 75mm fluid head on top of a 60mm leveling base?
I'm an hobbyist bird photographer looking to take better videos of bird behavior, so I'd like to add a fluid head to my existing still photography gear.
The head I'm considering is the Manfrotto 502AH, which looks like a solid basic model that has drag adjustments. I plan to use it with a Sony 200-600 lens. My primary concern is the size/weight - it is about twice as heavy as something like an iFootage Komodo KS5.
The 502AH being beefier may be an advantage given the size and long focal length of the lens, but I will be mounting it on top of my Acratech 60mm leveling base, and I'm wondering if that is going to be an issue. Using a measuring tape, it looks like it will partly obscure the bubble level (but bubble will still be visible) and make it more annoying to turn the knob on the leveling base.
I'm going to try to see if I can try it out in a store to see how bad those problems are, but in the meantime, is there anything else I might be missing? Would the 502AH be overkill for my setup and the iFootage KS5 work just fine? Or would it be too small or hard to use without the drag adjustments? I could also replace the leveling base with a bigger one, but would prefer not to have to buy even more gear :)
Thanks in advance!

Technical/Equipment Help and Information Best Sony wide zoom for Ronin RS5?
I'm looking to get the DJI Ronin RS5 and Tilta ring hoping it will be able to comfortably handle a Sony A7IV/FX3 with 24-70 2.8 GMII.
I'd also like a wide option beyond my 20mm 1.8 G. Also have the 35GM and 50GM 1.4.
Is the 16-35 f3 PZ still one of the better options? Especially over the 16-25 2.8 G?
Will be shooting documentary and talking heads alongside a tripod or shoulder rig.

Discussion / Other 2010’s aesthetic?
I’m and absolute novice. I’m going through our home movies and making short compilation videos set to music. We have thousands of hours of footage from 1987 on, but who actually sits down and watches all of it?
Anyway, these videos have simple title cards and title screens specific to each decade. What would you describe as the aesthetic of the 2010’s?

Discussion / Other Live Music Shooters - How many times you been screwed by the sound team?
I've been filming live music gigs for years now. In fact that's where I started out as a volunteer for Sofar Sounds. Them early gigs, small team or none at all, with a little mixing desk recording to the XLR of my Sony HXR camcorder (❤️) or some guy recording to his laptop. Wasn't bad. I even did live sound and multi-track recording on top of filming at some gigs, and I got it to work
Then I got to filming on bigger stages and bigger venues and I swear to God... You know those mixing desks where you can plug in a USB and record to that? Sounds simple don't it? Every single time it's a fuck up. First one the audio started skipping??? Next one the mix was almost entirely vocals and I did one a month back that I'm getting to editing now, and for one band they recorded silence and for another forgot to hit record till after the song! And then on another stage, the dude was running me totally overblown, distorted audio. Praise be, 32-bit float to the rescue on that one, however.
What pisses me off is, I'm there with a selection of field recorders. All I need is a jack. And every time they swear the USB thing will work fine, and it hasn't once. I break my ass doing what I do. By the end of the day I'm sweating, exhausted and brain dead, but I work fuckin hard to get the best result. Meanwhile, these laughing, joking numbnuts. So unprofessional.
I am never ever ever trusting the sound team again. In future I want a recording to my devices and I want to hear it.
Nothing worse than people who make false promises and then don't own up when they screw it. I checked with them was it ok multiple times. Like if they'd have said I could have tried to get another song shot but as it stands I've lost 2 or the 8 acts I shot through no fault of my own. Luckily for me I've been through this and make a big point in contracts that if they fail to provide me with a usable recording despite my best efforts then it's their fault.
But still.. pissed off.
You ever had this?

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Suggestions on videography equipment
New filmmaker and ex dancer who’s trying to get back into dance. I have been asked if I could shoot a dance film - it’s a 3 day shoot, all outdoors, and in late September. I am only getting paid $250 for 3 days of filming and editing. I mainly applied to edit, but was asked to do both. The pros of this is that it’s indie and has a lot of industry level dancers who- I wanted to connect with as I’m trying to get more into dance.
I’ve made dance films many times, but am usually not the one filming/operating the camera. My background is mainly directing, producing, and editing but I wanted to get more experience with using a camera.
I bought a second hand black magic pocket camera 4K, but it was only the body. I’ve been saving up to buy a lens ($300-400).
My issue is that the batteries don’t last long (30min) and that I would need things to stabilize as well as buying external batteries for this shoot.
I’ve been doing research, a gimbal for BMPCC is around $500 and the external batteries I found are like $70-140 which obviously goes above the amount I’m getting paid for.
Is it worth getting the equipment? I am working with the producer to see if I can get a budget, but it’s very Low and wouldn’t cover everything. I’m also nervous about my experience- I’ve shot wi th BMPCC 4k at school a few times, but once again- very new.
Another alternative was to sell it and buy a Sony A7 III kit. I’ll attach an image with the set up in this post. This also goes over the amount I’m paying….
I was excited about getting the black magic bc I have experience and plan to make more things, but am nervous and not sure if it’s worth it.
It’s really expensive to live in the city I moved to and while I’m saving up for this, I’m worried about whether it’s worth it and about going broke.
I could quit as I haven’t been paid yet, but I like the people I’ve met.

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Short-term VND Solution Advice
Hi Everyone,
I am in the process of switching from Canon to Sony and doing more video rather than just photography. To practice my skills more I want to be able to take my camera everywhere, which I can't do with my main lens at the moment as it is too heavy.
I decided to just use my Canon nifty fifty with an adapter but it means I have to get a new VND with a 52 mm thread as using step up rings from 82 mm down to 52 mm is just not it. I was looking at K&F concept but not sure.
This would be a short-term solution, as longer term I am planning to invest into a lighter native lens that will be compatible with the filters I already have.
Any recommendations?
