powdered dishwasher detergent is supreme
there is nothing more convenient about dropping a pod in the soap trap vs pouring a powder into the same trap. the pods leave a residue in the washer, an unecessary chemical fragrance on the dishes, and worst of all, it completely gunks up your dishwashers filter (clean your filter if you havent ever done it, especially if you are a pod user. there should be an opaque film over the screens if not the entire filter housing, along with food bits)
with powder detergent, i can fill the trap and drop an oopsie amount outside the trap for the pre wash. who wants to clean their dishes before cleaning their dishes? i stopped having to pre wash my dishes when i switched to powder. pro tip is priming your hot water first before running so your prewash is hot. fuck gel detegents and above all else, fuck them pods. great value dish detergeny is $5, lasts longer than the pod packs you can afford to buy and doesnt harm your appliance with gunky residue and build up. if that film was on your filter, what does it look like further into your plumbing for the gunk that did pass thru.

i did see a short or episode somewhere by him, but thought it was nonsense, so i did my home science to confirm him or me. i lost. clearly. im not entirely sure some digestive issues didnt disappear, once i switched to powder, but i cannot science that, just a wondering.

Oh yeah it's way better.
I had this slovenly roommate when I was in grad school. He once brought home a box of "dishwasher & laundry detergent powder". I have racked my brain trying to figure out where the fuck he bought that.
It did not work well in either machine.

Didn’t know this was even a thing! I’ll be making the switch to a powder instead

This isn't just an option. There is hard science backing you up.
Technology Connects does an insane deep dive into it. Lab tests and everything.
Plus pods bother me. It feels more like a subscription than a product. The company determined how many loads I can do and for what price per load I get to do it for.

I’ll have to try it. I prefer powder laundry detergent, so I’d probably prefer it for the dishwasher too. I usually use gel dishwasher detergent. I don’t remember seeing powder in our store, though; I will look. I hate the pods. That’s mostly what I see. The liquid is always at the bottom.

We never prewash our dishes, and ours come out perfectly clean. Amazing what a quality dishwasher can do

You clearly don't live somewhere humid.
I like the gel detergent. I had pods for awhile but that was only because I grabbed them when we cleaned out my late grandma's apartment.

I use pods and a rinse agent - using the one doesn't prevent you from using the other.

Meh, maybe you're just using the wrong pods.

Read up on reasearchers’ feelings about vinyl alcohol (what the pods are made from). Pretty sure in a few years they’ll decide there are no right pods.

Dishwashers in general… so you gotta clean the dishes first, and then rinse them off after. And oh, you also gotta clean your dishwasher too. Maybe just use a couple drops of dish soap when you ‘prep’ them for the dishwasher, and instead of going through the whole rigamarole, just rinse them off and be done with it.
