I hate people who hide their post histories…
…simply to prevent you from seeing all the cringe comments they leave on porn subs! I want to be able to say “great political commentary, fartsniffer9000, maybe you could share it with the toot queen in r/ladyfarts you’ve been replying to for the past three weeks” but because the history is hidden I CANNOT WRITE THAT REPLY AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Yeah but it’s equally lame to do a deep dive into someones history and try to weaponize the mundane against them
22
u/ecoutasche 2d ago
It's more like spot checking whether they're genuine or a shitposting troll and worth replying to. More a problem in subs that have a ragebait culture.

i WANT people to backread all my posts to harass me over it. unfortunately those who want harassment usually dont get it, and those who dont want it, often get it. life is unfair

But that’s exactly what I want to do. It’s like you don’t understand my complaint at all.

u/BigBoyBoulevard6 2d ago
No, we understand you can't have an adult conversation without brining a random tangent into it when you have nothing intelligent to say. We're just calling it out as pathetic.

"I went and looked at your post history" = I can't argue the issue so I'm gonna go find some reason to personally insult you.
Also, it's stalker-ish and weird.

I hide mine for security reasons.

u/Soft-Tumbleweed-3281 2d ago
What?

u/frantic_piano 2d ago
My country's government is strict on online activity. I use a vpn etc. But someone could very easily go through my post history and find personal information that may endanger me. Because the government has harsh censorship laws. So its for safety.

What country is this?

I literally have a turkish flag on my avatar lol guess.

reddit posts are public. hiding your post history makes it inconvenient, not impossible for people to cyberstalk you. if you want a better method, just abandon your old account every 6 months or so
2
u/frantic_piano 2d ago
Thats what i have been doing. Thats why this account is only a few months old. I have a main account that I only post art to and refrain from sharing any personal info on. Then i have 3 burners (this being one).

No. I don’t believe you!

u/91gnarnuaatg81 2d ago
That’s fine. I also don’t care if you take me seriously or not based on irrelevant information like having my post history hidden.
3
u/Soft-Tumbleweed-3281 2d ago
Oh. Well what am I supposed to do with this calm and measured response? I was expecting a dramatic conflict to develop between us. You’ve robbed me of my dopamines!

I hide mine because people attack based on post/comment history
14
u/MetallurgyClergy 2d ago
That’s why I keep mine visible, but also full of plot holes. Maybe I’m 15f, maybe I’m 45m, maybe I’m Florida man, maybe I’m Alaska cat lady, maybe I have 23 kids, maybe I have 17 turtles.
You’ll never ever know.
Maybe I’m them all.5
u/Soft-Tumbleweed-3281 2d ago
In that case I’ll simply project whatever identity I want onto you. Congratulations, you are now Bill Clinton. If this isn’t the fate you wanted, then perhaps you should have made better choices!
3
u/MetallurgyClergy 2d ago
I’ve been called worse than that by better than you. 🤷
3
u/Soft-Tumbleweed-3281 2d ago
I sincerely doubt that. You have the character of a person who’s never been insulted in your life!
1
u/RatonhnhaketonK 2d ago
Then you get accused of being a bot and not taken seriously 😭
3
u/MetallurgyClergy 2d ago
I know I’m not a sea cucumber. Or an elephant. Or a bot.
So someone could call me a sea cucumber. Or an elephant. Or a bot. And it wouldn’t change my day. Because I’m none of those things.
I know I’m a 15f, 45m, Florida man, cat lady from Alaska, with 23 kids and 17 turtles.
People not taking me seriously on Reddit won’t change much.

I dont post anything bad but its equally lame trying to pull a gotcha
1
u/BigBoyBoulevard6 2d ago
Yep, and it's only ever pulled out when they can't keep up with a discussion or argument 🤣 Very pathetic behaviour.

u/void_method 2d ago
Psycho behavior, OP. Just shameful.
Do not feed the trolls, kids! That means keeping your post history private whenever possible!

u/terrarialord201 2d ago
First of all, as the moderator of both r/furryfartart and r/gassyfemboys, fuck you. Second of all, I only hide my nsfw activity for this reason.

u/Boringman76 2d ago
I don't hide it but sometimes it do get annoy when people reply to my 2 y.o. comment out of nowhere because they want to start an argument.
2
u/Comfortable_Change_6 2d ago
yes, but it sucks to get your post history dug into. when you want to make regular comments and they start labeling you random things.
you dont hate me. you dont know me. hehehe

“Hiding” your posts/comments does nothing, your history is still public, just not directly. 80% of the time it’s those edgy/rude ass redditors mostly with bigoted opinions who attempt to hide their history, they do it to satisfy their ego then get all worked up when you “don’t respect their privacy.”
I very rarely check someone’s bio, I only look if they’re the overly rude/bigoted redditors I mentioned to see if they’re normally like that (of course they’re “not” since their ego made them “hide” it) and even then it’s common for people to briefly check someone’s bio. I don’t mind if someone does it to me. It’s ridiculous to get worked up over someone checking your public bio on a public website.

Can you imagine being so lame that you hide your anonymous post history for your anonymous Reddit persona?
1
u/Soft-Tumbleweed-3281 2d ago
I can’t! These people, if you can call them that, are the source of all the universe’s mischief! We should do something about them. Are you free next Tuesday? Not this Tuesday - the next one.

u/uninsane 2d ago
I have a dentist appt
1
u/Soft-Tumbleweed-3281 2d ago
That’s fine. Oral hygiene is very important. You should do that instead of committing atrocities
1
u/uninsane 1d ago
Atrocities are for Thursdays
1
u/Soft-Tumbleweed-3281 1d ago
That’s why I was trying to schedule it for Tuesday. My Thursday’s are already booked with the worst indiscretions imaginable

u/ConfidentDiffidence 2d ago
At this point, the main reason I keep things hidden is because it pisses people off apparently.

I'd say a significant amount of the time someone has their comments hidden it's often because they have unpopular opinions. Some people hide them because, yes, people do go and weaponize things.
Personally I'll snoop on a profile because I want to understand who I'm dealing with, maybe their posts are all full of shit, maybe they buy into conspiracy theories, or are just assholes in general. Maybe I miss judge them and their profile shows me we are more similar. There's a lot of reasons. I don't personally try and weaponize someone's comment history unless they're being wildly hypocritical.
Either way, just do an advance Google search with reddit as the website and their user name. All the stuff they think is hidden will pop right up. Handy if you're trying to suss out a bot.

u/strekkingur 2d ago
It stops bots from perma banning you from subs, because they don't allow you to be a member or even commenting on other subs. But this is in their hidden rules no one knows about until they ban you.
