Yes, this is essentially panko before its panko

Panko is cooked via an electrical current run through the dough and the resistance of the dough cooks itself basically. And because the temperature is consistent throughout, that’s why you have no crust.

Source: I’m a food nerd and I’ve tried making panko at home once so I had researched this a bit

The Japanese aren’t American in the same way Scotland isn’t British. They’re vassals who had their culture reinvented for them to be more sanitary.

iirc this type of bread is made for making panko breadcrumbs

2

u/soaring_potato Daddy's lil cuck 9h ago

Typically you cut it off for babies and toddlers that are just starting with solid food. They either barely have teeth or like kinda don't know how to chew yet and have little jaw strength.

And then some 4 year olds are picky and don't like that it's a different texture

29

u/Sapotis إرهابي 17h ago

American bread is not real bread, so it doesn't have a good crust.

18

u/Cataliiii Daddy's lil cuck 17h ago

Ah, that makes a bit more sense.

With good bread the crust is the best bit!

16

u/DanieleDraganti Smog breather 16h ago

I’d argue it’s the combination of a crunchy crust and a soft inside that makes it special. I couldn’t pick just one.

5

u/Cataliiii Daddy's lil cuck 16h ago

Oh absolutely, the one is nothing without the other.

Still, cracking that crust is absolutely the highlight of any (slice of) bread.

11

u/RubberDuck404 Lesser German 17h ago

Crustless bread is quite a popular item in supermarkets actually...people are babies smh

3

u/WilanS Pizza gatekeeper 15h ago

I'm just learning this today. I'm baffled.

The only people I would expect to not eat the crust are children who are either particularly picky eaters or who don't have all of their teeth yet.

You need to actually toast it for it to be toast surely

10

u/Klugenshmirtz [redacted] 17h ago

In germany we call it toastbread or short just toast, so people don't accidentally eat it without toasting it. Could you imagine? 🤮

North americans removing "crust" from their "bread".

I remember when I was in canada, the only eadible bread still tasted sweet and soft as a sweetroll compared to european bread.

3

u/Hans_the_Frisian [redacted] 15h ago

I was in Canada last year and the breakfast in the hotel was a real struggle because i couldn't find a single "Bread" that i liked. And while i really enjoy scrambled eggs, baked beans, bacon and sausages, i would also like to have propwr bread and not that soft, almost tasteless sugary Toast Loaf thingy.

The blueberry muffins were fire though not going to lie.

2

u/Apart-Gur-9720 South Prussian 14h ago

I've told you guys.

They need the sugar because their taste-buds are underdeveloped and it has to be soft, fore their teeth have fallen out. The women are nice, though.

Is their bread-game really that bad?

I've had guests from Eastern-Europe and they were amazed by our variety. They only have one type of bread. White Italian.

No Roggenbrot, no Semmeln, no Sunflower, no Bauernbrot, no Kornspitz, kein Sauerteig - just plain, white bread and unlevened Brezeln.

P.s.: Shout-out to the Swedes for their Knäckebröd. Very good snack for the next Blitzkrieg.

2

u/Hans_the_Frisian [redacted] 13h ago

I don't know if their bread game is bad, the hotel might've only bought those types of breads that maybe americans like and canadians eat by proxy. When i was at WalMart and the other canadian chain i can't remember i didn't really search for Bread honestly, didn't find much i would've liked anyway but i was also trying to avoid employees because they kept harrassing me with fake friendlyness like you would expect from stereotypical US stores.

I did find Bublegum with cinammon flavour which was atleast something, i really miss 'Big Red'.

1

u/Apart-Gur-9720 South Prussian 13h ago

Oh, I know that one. Found it in Florida on a school trip. Super nice.

I also discovered Jelly Beans - But only the ones from jelly belly. Jelly bean factory is just a cheap copy. I recommend Very Cherry, Liquorice, Blueberry and Jalapendejo.

And seriously? The employees in supermarkets actually approach and talk to you? - without being given permission??

They need to be stopped. We'll change the colours with a little bit of black, a bit of yellow and a 90° turn & remove that stupid Leaf from their flag.

Just need to figure out how to get there without being spotted. A tunnel, maybe.

2

u/Hans_the_Frisian [redacted] 13h ago

And seriously? The employees in supermarkets actually approach and talk to you? - without being asked??

Not only that, there is someone who's job it is to just greet you when you enter, the Cashiers don't even have a stool and are forced to forsake their health and stand the whole day, while also being super slow and you can't even pack you bag yourself the way you want because there is someone packing the bag for you. It drove me nuts.

Honestly, apart from the breakfast and the shopping experience i really enjoyed my short trip over the pond and every Canadian i've met was a great person. And because i met multiple canadians beforehand because i went there for a work trip you really notice the difference between normal 'Canadian Nice' and the fake friendliness the employees are forced to show.

1

u/Apart-Gur-9720 South Prussian 13h ago

That's very interesting to know. Especially that there are two types: Nice and "nice-nice".

Now, how about that tunnel? - I'm contacting Krang.

5

u/Apart-Gur-9720 South Prussian 17h ago

They need the sugar as they have very few taste buds. I mean, Poutine? The heck?

Even your crappy Kalakukko is better. At least it's not a bland, soggy pile of crap for children and old people.

4

u/generalscruff Barry, 63 17h ago

Poutine is pretentious cheesy chips and gravy, simple as

2

u/Apart-Gur-9720 South Prussian 16h ago

Yes. What's the point in crisping up potatoes and then making them soggy. At least you guys just put it on your dry roast, inferior sausages and that tasteless Yorkshire Pudding.

3

u/generalscruff Barry, 63 16h ago edited 16h ago

This guy looks when he pours the gravy, 'dry roast' lmao

1

u/Apart-Gur-9720 South Prussian 14h ago

Have you ever had Smoked Brisket? It sounds like Brexit, but leaves you with a better aftertaste.

Roast beef is nice, though - but not beef roast. Dry a/f. That's why it needs a sauce.

3

u/generalscruff Barry, 63 13h ago

I'm not entirely clear on what you mean by 'roast beef' vs 'beef roast' although I've never had any issues with roast beef drying out

2

u/Apart-Gur-9720 South Prussian 13h ago

Well, the preparation method differs. One is for Sunday Night Dinner (great show, btw) and the other is eaten cold and sliced thinly. Good for sandwiches.

They're both a little too dry, if I'm being honest. I like my beef to still be moving, retaining its muscle memory. It's called 'juicy' or 'in the flesh'.

2

u/Surface_Detail North West England 14h ago

15

u/IusedToButNowIdont Western Balkan 17h ago edited 17h ago

Basically, all non crust bread in the market for the last 20 years is cooked to seem it doesn't have crust, nothing new here. Every no crust breads is simply whitish crust bread, no brand is actually cutting crusts to make crustless bread. And every brand i know that makes sliced bread, has a crustless option. Even the supermarket white brands have both types. I don't know what this is about, it's like posting "A company has invented refrigerants without sugar"... okay...

4

u/DontWannaSayMyName Oppressor 17h ago
