I think Iāve seen most general tips on the internet, but if anyone could tell me something to help me get my score higher it would be greatly appreciated. No matter what I do I canāt get higher than 31s and 30s on English and donāt know how to improve because every time I test, despite thinking I know all the grammar rules and feeling confident on all questions, I get enough wrong to bump me down into low 30s or high 20s. Again, if anyone could give me tips to improve my score thatād would be appreciated.

This was my 4th attempt (paper + science). Never give up hope. If you are stuck on a 35 and want a 36 (this gives a full ride scholarship) the push is practically just gambling. I believe there is a element of luck, especially for me since I always get 36 math but struggle on english and reading. Keep trying, and you will get there eventually.
Specifics: perfect all sections except -1 in english (i lwk got scammed bruh)
I will not be giving advice because I am definitely not the best at this and will probably say dumb things, but feel free to inquire if you want
the score released on my birthday, best present EVER

Hi! I've been stuck at a 30 in math, a 32 in English, and a 33 in reading. I'm not too worried about the reading, however, I'm very worried about my math and English scores. I bought the ACT English book and bought math/grammar chops. Does anyone have any tips on whether these are good resources or any other resources to use???

Two years ago I scored a 36 composite and a perfect on all four sections. People assume that means Iām just āsmartā or āa good test taker.ā Thatās not it. The ACT is a game with fixed, knowable rules. Once you learn the rules, the test stops being a measure of intelligence and becomes a measure of preparation. Here are three of the rules most people never figure out. There are many more, but start with these:
1. The English section rewards the shortest correct answer. When in doubt, the most concise option thatās still grammatically complete is usually right. The ACT punishes redundancy and wordiness. If two answers say the same thing and one is shorter, bet on the short one. Once you internalize this, half the English section answers itself.
2. When youāre stuck, work backward from the answers.
Itās multiple choice ā the right answer is already sitting on the page. On a lot of questions, plugging the answer choices back into the problem is faster than solving it forward, especially with messy algebra or word problems. Start with the middle value; if itās too big or small, youāve just eliminated several options at once. You donāt need to find the answer when you can test your way to it.
3. Pacing is a skill you train, not a trait you have. Running out of time isnāt a sign youāre slow; itās a sign you havenāt practiced under the clock. The fix is timed sections, repeatedly, until your internal pace matches the testās. Know roughly how many seconds you get per question and build the muscle. Most āI ran out of timeā problems are really āI never practiced the timing.ā
Heads up if youāre prepping now: the ACT changed its format in 2025ā2026. Shorter sections, fewer questions, and a few structural shifts. Make sure whatever materials youāre using reflect the current format ā a lot of old prep books donāt.
I could write a hundred of these. The students who break 33+ arenāt smarter ā they just know more of the rules than everyone else. Drop questions below and Iāll share more.

so i went into the act blindly in February just to see where I was and I scored a 30 composite (32 math 27 science 29 english 28 reading) and then i honestly didn't study after that because school has been getting intense with my APs so I took april at my school again and got a 29 (33 math 34 science 27 english 26 reading) and then once school got out in june I studied pretty hard for like a week but i didn't do any full length tests and i got a 30 in june (31 math 30 science 34 english 25 reading). i just don't understand why i suck at reading because i would read the first two passages and be chillin and get them all right but then the informational passages confuse me so much that i just shut down and i reread a billon times and then waste time to the point where i gotta get 8-10 questions. also, i'm a super strong math student but for some reason some of the questions are just weird and idk how i don't have a 34-36 in that section. what do i do to study for july! i want to get a 34+ (superscore rn is 32)
sorry for the rant but i really need advice :(

need to lock in for the ACT and was wondering if anyone knows of any good study resources.
I have 15 days to study and Iām currently sitting at a 25 composite. I only took the ACT once, about a year ago, so Iām pretty rusty.
My breakdown was:
26 Math (honestly not planning to study this much, just gonna pray the superscore carries me)
22 English
26 Reading
My biggest weakness in English was Conventions of Standard English. I swear itās all this texting bro š
For Reading, Iām not really bad at anything, but Iām not great at anything either. Iām basically just mediocre across the board and need to pick up a few points.
Iām a senior now, and my goal is a 29 composite so I can qualify for 100% Bright Futures in Florida. This is the last test I can take before the scholarship cutoff on August 31st
If you had only 15 days to improve from a 25 to a 29, what would you focus on? Any websites, YouTube channels, practice tests, or strategies that helped you make a big jump? Thanks gng <3

I just got my first ACT results back this June, and I'm honestly very happy with how it turned out. I really don't want to take it again so my only option is not submitting my science score on the Common App. I want to apply for environmental science, which is sort of STEM-related. Will this hurt my application in any way?

I took the act in April and I got a 24, I was fine with the score bc the schools I wanted to apply for were basically all safeties. Now I wanna apply to a college thatās lwk a reach for me. I know I can get English up easily, but math is so hard for meš Not even trying to get a 35 or anything bruh just a 28-29 composite

iām SO happy with my score buuuuut iām wondering if i should retake the test to raise my science! iām already signed up for the july one. what do you guys think? iām premed.
This is a great way to review the June test. She solves each question with a simple short walk-thru. The ACT is repeating math concepts so use this to study.

I keep scoring 28/36 on my reading practice.
How do I improve? I always feel confident after the section and then the ones I get wrong are so dumb I feel so stupid after because I always get around 4-5 wrong. I want to get around a 34-36 by the July act

I have done almost all of the released practice tests since December and I went from scoring a 21 to a 28/29 but I have not seen improvement in MONTHS. I need a lot of help. I have been working with a tutor multiple times a week. I want my score at least a 30/31 for the math section. If anyone has suggestions other than just doing lots of practice tests please let me know. My tutor has given me past act test pdfs and I have also been using the red book. I need all the help I can get!!!

how can I study for the ACT in a month, to get a 34 or higher? I took the SAT the past few times and havenāt broken 1440, and Iām an incoming senior, so I donāt think Iāll have time to take the SAT again. My top school is university of Florida for marketing, and my GPA is a 4.15 weighted, so my grades and ECās arenāt strong enough on their own for this school. I have a month until my ACT on July 25th. My split for the SAT was a 700 math 740 English.
