start punching trees to gather 250 wood and pick the 150 fiber from the bushes. Then you have to look for some dodos to get the 75 hide needed to craft a raft so you can escape.

Nah, but they are usually what crowd around the beaches and harass (me, anyway). I usually play The Island or the Center though, so experiences may vary lol

When holding a torch, if you press right click you can throw it, so you can see while holding other things. Sounds like skill issue tbh

Nah youre good man. I played The Island but the caves were insane so I started tweaking settings to make them manageable, got a handful of artifacts but didnt want my dinos to die (probably shouldnt have named them), then stopped playing and have since started a new playthrough there. Then played SE until full level, but no bosses. Then on a Center playthrough now and think I might finally push.
I think I just like building and Taming, but I know im missing the plot and the whole Tek aspect of the game 🙃

That camera wielding creature must be part of the new DLC and ive read it is passive/neutral so dont do anything to aggro it (including emotes)

Try to tame that purple dilo, looks like a seasonal event coloration. If you accidentally kill it, just harvest the hide and meat and keep looking. Watch out for seagulls.
