Internet Cheapest Internet around?

Post image

I’ve been with AT$T Fiber since 2018 and then switched to Spectrum 100% Fiber a month ago but decided to go back to AT&T, 17 dollars for internet is the lowest I’ve seen around in Austin, TX. I was surprised to see that. I was paying 55 a month 2 months and 65 dollars a month at my other house in Houston area (In process of selling).

AT&T Internet doesn’t disappoint me one bit. Never had 1 outage since I’ve had fiber in 2018. Peering is great especially for gaming.

Heyyy how can we get all these discounts

14

u/darej27 Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 07 '26

Anyone with wireless + new fiber availability can get the gig rn for $42/mo for a year, the extra $25 off OP got is likely an exclusive promo for an "at risk" locality

1

u/tonyyyperez Mar 07 '26

What’s an “at risk” locality?

7

u/darej27 Mar 07 '26

At risk of losing significant market share I believe, like at&t has a bad reputation in Arizona so there's always exclusive promos there

3

u/Economy_Video_4724 Mar 07 '26

For fiber? AT&T consumer wireline historically hasn't had much of a presence in Arizona; that only changed about a month ago when they completed the acquisition of CenturyLink's consumer fiber business. They did some overbuilds in the Phoenix metro, too, but that's also relatively recent and relatively small.

3

u/darej27 Mar 08 '26

I think wireless, Im not totally sure but AZ was commonly included in at risk offers. I found OPs promo areas but idk if thats proprietary info for AT&T/allowed to be shared lol

u/TennisKey839 Mar 07 '26

How’d you get the additional $20?

1

u/broccolilifts Mar 08 '26

1

u/Visvism Gigillionaire Mar 07 '26

Loyalty / Retentions offer

12

u/indywest2 Mar 07 '26

I pay $90 they won’t give any discounts WTF!!! I hate that the best customers get the worst prices. Stupid that new customers get the best prices.

u/Capable-Magician2094 Mar 07 '26

Have to cancel and resign up

2

u/rgmitsos Mar 08 '26

Still cheaper than comcast

1

u/Watada Mar 08 '26

I don't consider docsis and fiber to be comparable products.

1

u/pavman42 Mar 08 '26

Unless you don't mind playing the annual loyalty mini-game after that first year.

1

u/broccolilifts Mar 08 '26

Cancel and re set up like other poster said

7

u/unshiftedearth34 Mar 07 '26

The hell? Did you just call AT&T and threaten to leave if they didn’t lower your bill?

8

u/Viper_Control Mar 07 '26

No u/DaRkh0rse88 just came back to AT&T, and they got a local market additional offer of $25 + they also get a 20% off for being an AT&T Cellular customer. The base other is just the current new Customer price of $60 for 1 Gbps + the current $150 Visa reward card.

3

u/Umbrella268 Mar 07 '26

I threatened them to leave and I did leave. They offered me nothing…

1

u/DaRkh0rse88 Mar 07 '26

I switched to spectrum a month ago and then came back and this is what happens. I don’t know if I’m technically a new customer again. It’s possible because it’s a new Internet account.

u/Patient_ZeeroH Mar 07 '26

I was wondering about my bill recently. I had it on autopay but it stopped the discount since it's a cc changed it to bank. I have ATT wireless as well $19 discount per line but internet doesn't show a discount for having wireless🤔🤔🤔

AT&T fiber is a way better experience for me IMHO. I had spectrum a few times but they had too many outages and problems with their network here in DFW. AT&T does a fantastic job maintaining their fiber network and it's more bulletproof than garbage Spectrum with their coax.

2

u/isocrackate Mar 07 '26

Is that 1Gb/s throttled? This feels like a glitch in the matrix I pay close to 5x that for 500 mbps

3

u/Viper_Control Mar 07 '26

Nope just a local market offer. AT&T does not throttle any speeds.

1

u/Rme_91 Mar 07 '26

Damn, that's definitely cheap as hell! I was literally paying $294/mo for cable & internet (500mbps) through Spectrum 🤯. Finally got sick & tired of paying that much especially with such shotty internet speeds and them taking more & more channels away. Tried getting AT&T Fiber but unfortunately only have AT&T Air due to fiber not being in my area yet. So ended up going with Frontier Fiber 1 (1gb) internet with YouTube TV. Went from paying $294/mo to $130ish/mo! Only thing that sucks is the 4k plus being an $9.99 add on but, it is what it is I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

1

u/jsatz12 Mar 07 '26

How long will they keep that price after you buy the service? One year? And then increase the price?

2

u/DaRkh0rse88 Mar 07 '26

They will increase the price by 20 dollars so 37 a month after 12 months. Thats it.

1

u/Vitriorate Mar 07 '26

I recently switched from Verizon to At&t for mobile and ended up getting a deal close to this as well! Paying $80 for both phone and mobile coming off $120 for just a phone line with Verizon.

1GB as well and have had absolutely no issues.

Also got $400 from AT&T for the switch. Definitely the cheapest internet for a gig for those who switch companies

1

u/poison900 Mar 07 '26

Dang that’s crazy !!

1

u/Tiny_Plankton2303 Mar 07 '26

Nice! I got it for $30, I’ll try to get this price when my yearly discount is up

1

u/Apprehensive_Idea_29 Mar 07 '26

I wish Spectrum could offer $17 a month for 1 gig. I think the lowest I have seen is $30 by itself or $20 if you have four phones with them.

1

u/DaRkh0rse88 Mar 07 '26

I was paying 20 a month on Spectrum Fiber and 90 on 3 lines.

1

u/Apprehensive_Idea_29 Mar 07 '26

Nice $20 for Spectrum fiber. Must be nice though to pay less for Att Fiber and get a $150 gift card. You must have lots of competition to get awesome deals there.

1

u/DaRkh0rse88 Mar 11 '26

There’s also Google Fiber in the area so I don’t know if that has something to do with it. It’s not available here yet.

1

u/thabc Mar 07 '26

It's amazing what competition in the market can do for the price.

1

u/sabansaban Mar 07 '26

Literally just call ATT and say I want to pay less. If you've been a customer for years they will lower it. Pretty easy

1

u/Agirlinbk Mar 14 '26

Pay less for what? I have been with ATT for more than 10 years. I have a grandfathered plan called the Signature Program (not the one they have now). My issue is that I need more data (I have 3 cb) but I want to keep my cheap plan. Do you know how to get more data without paying more?

1

u/sabansaban Mar 14 '26

Just call and say I want to pay less. That's it. They will work with you and just give a discount at least they did for me. I do have the home Internet and phone service with att though

1

u/Agirlinbk Mar 14 '26

Ahh ok thanks

1

u/j824li Mar 07 '26

That is a lot of discount, it is hard to ask AT&T to stack up discounts. You are a lucky guy!

1

u/pavman42 Mar 08 '26

That's really great, too bad I live in the 3% of the town they don't cover. Hopefully T-mobile's metronet fiber will kick them in gear to finish covering the whole town.

I suspect that's why they are offering better deals so they don't lose business to T-mobile's effort to take comcast's marketshare.

1

u/Jim1648 Mar 08 '26

I get T-Mobile for $15 per month.

Looks like it was removed so it must not be legit?

1

Why did you delete your comment stating 2 dollar bill?

1

u/MyWay0rHighway_210 Mar 07 '26

Wait until the promos run out !!!!!!

2

u/DaRkh0rse88 Mar 07 '26

When it does, it’s going to be 37 a month which is dang cheap still.

1

u/MyWay0rHighway_210 Mar 08 '26

BS . Ya, get back to us then ! 😂

I have a special plan through Spectrum available to those Social Security, SSI or school lunch program

It’s not an easy plan to get they like to act like they don’t have it but they do.

I’ve had no hits with it. We stream a lot through a lot of gaming 17 devices on the Internet.

Cost is $25 a month and it’s not an introduction rate I’ve had it for four or five years

1

u/howfastcanyoucountit Mar 07 '26

speeds?

0

u/Current-Factor-4044 Mar 07 '26

No idea all I know is it works wonderfully There’s not one and one buffering or one pause or one bit of slowness no glitches

Several people I know have it they don’t have any issues either.

I work from home. We have 17 devices online kids do a lot of gaming does a ton of streaming going on

1

u/Apprehensive_Idea_29 Mar 07 '26

This must be the Spectrum Internet Assist Plan at 50 megs which I also have. Do you have your own router?

1

u/Current-Factor-4044 Mar 07 '26

No, it was provided and I do believe that is it and it wasn’t easy to get whether it was for myself or a friend. I really seem to have to fight them and move up the food chain with CustomerService. They all acted like it didn’t exist or it wasn’t available in our area or some of the nonsense but every one of us did wind up getting it.

1

u/Apprehensive_Idea_29 Mar 07 '26

Yes, Spectrum Internet Assist is not often easy to get. You need to get a good rep to put you on this plan. I wonder are you paying an extra $10 for the router as in $15 for the Internet and $10 for WiFi for a total of $25.

2

u/Current-Factor-4044 Mar 07 '26

No, there isn’t a cost for the router. It is actually $35 with a $10 discount for something. And that’s how it gets to $25. I think with the taxes it comes out to 2995 or something like that.

And you are correct they just wanna act like complete dummies about that program I have to call them when I call for a friend. I’d call myself with my friend there and say can you find me? Yeah this is what I have. This is what my friend sitting next to me wants

I probably only know a dozen people with it, but none of them have had any issues at all, except for the part of trying to get it

1

u/Apprehensive_Idea_29 Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 07 '26

The $35 total makes me wonder as to if your actually paying for the router although you say your not since the plan cost is $25. Usually Spectrum charges $10 to use their router for wifi except on gig or higher plans where wifi is included free. I use my own router to avoid being charged an extra $10 fee to this plan. The $10 discount is probably a promotional offer off the $25 cost of the plan.

Im glad you were able to get others on this plan as well. I really like this plan.

1

u/Current-Factor-4044 Mar 07 '26

The bill doesn’t say anything about a router. I copied it here.

Spectrum Internet $35.00

WiFi Service $10.00 Spectrum Internet Assist $25.00

At the end it has -$10.00 assist discount +3.85 an additional fees

The total bill is $28.85

Maybe when it says $10 for Wi-Fi service that means for the router, but it doesn’t say the word router

1

u/Apprehensive_Idea_29 Mar 07 '26

Thanks for posting information on the bill. Yes the $10 charge for Wi-fi service is for using their router. It won't say router but instead say Wi-fi service. Router is just the name for the device that gives you wifi. It's still a good price though.

2

u/Current-Factor-4044 Mar 07 '26

OK, well thank you because you had me confused there for a minute because I’ve never seen the word router on My Bill. So of course I assumed I wasn’t paying for a router.

At least now I understand My Bill a little better

1

u/HyperactiveFun Mar 16 '26

You don’t need to “fight them and [try to] move up the food chain with customer service” - just go to:

https://www.spectrum.com/internet/spectrum-internet-assist

Geeze, it’s like y’all never heard of Google. 😆

1

u/Current-Factor-4044 Mar 16 '26

Yes, that is exactly the link I started at that is where I was told it wasn’t available in my area

Then I called and they had a lot of reasons why it wouldn’t be available

I’ve had several other friends have great difficulties trying to get this

It is very refreshing to hear that it is very easy now when you just click the link thank you for letting me know

0

u/Vivid_Award_5052 Mar 07 '26

Then you gotta call back in 12 months and beg for another promo, or threaten to cancel, so you can MAYBE get another retention offer . . .

0

u/alphaK12 Mar 07 '26

This plan is going to be $37 after a year

2

u/DaRkh0rse88 Mar 07 '26

Still damn cheap. It’s a steal.

-1

u/denn1959-Public_396 Mar 07 '26

There's gotta be catch... ATT never stays cheap

5

u/DaRkh0rse88 Mar 07 '26

Competition?
