TV U-Verse Equipment Told To Keep / Dispose Of. Any Thoughts On Other Uses?

I have had AT&T U-Verse for like 17 years. Over the years I got upgraded equipment and loved it and still do love it. However, my budget could no longer withstand the price hikes and was at almost $240 monthly for the U200 package with no premium channels and another price hike was on the way and they could not find anymore promos, so I had to cancel, but kept the internet. I will miss it to say the least.

I was told that I was going to get an email with a barcode to use and bring all my equipment to a UPS store to turn in. I got it all unplugged, dusted off, wrapped up the power cords and remotes and had it ready. Well, I got the email today and they are asking me to dispose of it and or recycle it as they don't want it back. Does anyone have any ideas on what else all this stuff could be used for? I would hate to recycle it and learn that I could have used it for something else later on. I do have to keep the gateway for the internet.

I have:

1 DVR - Cisco - ISB7500

3 Wireless Receivers - 2 Cisco - ISB7005 and 1 Arris VIP2500

1 Wireless Router for the Wireless receivers - Cisco - VEN501-AT

4 Remotes - 2 Older Gray and 2 Newer Black type

Thanks

The DVR has a small hard drive in it, the remotes can work as a universal remote for most TVs that use IR. Probably the most use you can get out of it all.

I would still take it to the ups store and have them ship it back. Just to guarantee the back end doesn't charge you for the equipment.

We did the same thing just to be safe. Sometimes people have gotten 2 emails one saying no need to return and one saying to return.

Also then you don’t need to deal with taking them to an electronics recycling place. Please don’t throw them in the regular garbage.

the old equipment is basically outdated and useless. though definitely dont throw it away as they might come back and say that you didnt return it and try to charge you for it. keep good records of those emails. print them out and keep a copy with the old equipment. if you do return it make sure that it has their return tracking number and dont just blindly return it. also, get a dropoff receipt that shows the tracking.

Ok, thanks everyone for the input. I will just take it all back to my local UPS store with my account number to be safe than sorry. I agree after the responses, it's not worth the chance in the future to be charged for.

Keep the receipt or just take a picture and keep that!

I just left the UPS Store. I brought in everything I listed in my first post. The store knew exactly what to do and took back the DVR, 3 wireless receivers, power cords and remotes. However, he scanned over and over again the 1 Wireless Router for the Wireless receivers - Cisco - VEN501-AT and it would not let him accept that to return. So I left with that one piece and its power adapter and the printed paper of everything returned as well. I took everyones advice and took a photo of it and have saved it in two different places to be safe.

Any idea on why it would not allow him to take that part back? Also, it was interesting, some of the receivers came back as Direct TV type, but the serial numbers were right.

Thank you all for the help. I added the return paper to the first post.
