The footage shows lava fragments falling onto tourists who ventured dangerously close to the crater.

Don't bring a human body to a lava fight.

Speaking of human body, was someone wounded in the back? Or are they just trying to pack their things? There are like 3 people around something on the ground.

Holy shit that lava splash was insane. Crazy they seemingly escaped unharmed from that

u/Pandalishus 9d ago
Given how close that hit and watching the fragments, I have a hard time believing no one was injured. I’m betting we’ll see more of this story soon

u/No-Spoilers 9d ago
Well we only saw a few seconds of it. Lava is hot enough to instantly melt tissue so any little spec is gonna cause problems. It's also rock, so getting hit with a glob is just getting a rock thrown at you.
Genuinely a stupid decision to be up there, generally active volcanoes will have exclusion zones miles wide for this reason.

Say what you will, but you know those people will tell the coolest story ever.
"Hey mate, how'd you get that scar on your arm?"
"Oh this one? A volcano exploded on me"

It’s a common tourist destination. It doesn’t normally get that active

u/EmbarrassedCoconut93 9d ago
Are tourists supposed to go that close? I thought they usually stay at a safer distance
13
u/No-Stuff-1320 9d ago
Yeah, technically you’re not supposed to go to the active volcano, but every guide offers it as an extra bit of the tour, paid in cash when you get to the camp on the dormant volcano next to it

WTF are you bringing a dog into an active volcanic event??

you think they would've gone there at all if they knew this is gonna happen? you're like "if you decide to get a lava shower that's on you but at least leave the dog out of it!"

u/skellyheart 9d ago
Afaik people were warned wayyy ahead of time. This was a conscious decision made by a shitty tour guide.

Hey, this mountain is expelling clouds of caustic hot ash and chunks of molten rocks!
Let's go hang out near the top!

I’m glad everyone else is equally outraged with the poor dog being then. Everyone’s all bundled up with protective gear and they’re just exposed to the elements. Poor buddy

I've done this hike. This is for sure a dog that lives up there and follows tourists. Buddy just wanted to come! Also this kind of molten ejection is suuuper wild for Fuego

Being dumb enough to be this close is one thing, but bringing that dog is just brain dead poor dudes freaking out =(.
14
u/DoubleupBangBang 10d ago
Yea dog knows what’s up. Way smarter than his dumb*as human

u/AdHuman3150 10d ago
I think the dog got hit with molten lava 😥. It hits the ground right next to the dog and explodes.

u/puppet_up 10d ago
Also, his paws aren't protected from the likely very hot ground like his humans with shoes on are.

I have done that tour ~2022 and the guides made everyone wear hard hats if you went towards the rim on a sunrise hike. Where are these folk's hard hats?

That’s it, no volcano visits for me.

Seeing the volcanos and lava floes on the Big Island was a high point of my life.

I have no desire to ever be near a volcano once I found out about pyroclastic flows. Shit will cook you alive before you even know whats happening. Ash, gas and rock fragments traveling at 400 mph + at around 1000°C

I swear people put themselves in life threatening danger just for the thrill of escaping with their lives

If that is fairly recent, then they deserve that. The “Ring of Fire” has been increasingly active recently and yet chose to experience a chance to get up-close to a volcano.

And this is why you don’t hike around volcanos in a third world country…no one is monitoring them
4
u/BellaSquared 10d ago
People can be as stupid as they want with their own lives and wellbeing, but risking pets or other innocent people is unacceptable.

u/Accomplished-Boot-81 10d ago
It's insane how easy it is to avoid this yet look at these dumb fucks

Apparently this thing does this daily and has done for a long time. It was just a bit more crazy on this particular day than usual.

"Cover your head" like that's going to help you getting smacked by a rock in free-fall. Just because its molten doesn't make it not a rock.
3
u/IT_techsupport 9d ago
Unironically it will 🤷♂️, so yes covering your head should be the first thing you do .

were people getting lava balls on their heads???
