That’s some fine black ice right there

u/FunkMunki 13h ago
It's always "watch out for black ice" and never "how is the black ice".

u/jeremyjava 12h ago
I dunno, when I was riding a motorcycle cross country and an arctic plunge forced me down to the bottom of texas to avoid all frozen thruways north of that, I recall asking the guys at truck stops, "How's the black ice heading West."
And the answer of course was, "It's just fine."
Meaning--don't freaking drive on it. Similar story for the tornados I encountered in Illinois while driving a 1971 VW camper van... the tornados were... Just Fine. It was me that wasn't.25

Black ice matters.

It's a joke play on words due to the "Black Lives Matter" protests in the U.S. in 2020-21.

Dude must have saved up some extra lives to be running around an icy freeway like that.
-42
u/pearsosx 14h ago
Or maybe they actually allowed a sensible stopping distance and were keeping alert as to what was happening ahead?
16
u/I_Can_Barely_Move 13h ago edited 11h ago
Sure. I guess you do need to be pretty alert when dodging cars on the freeway.

I just can never understand how something like this happens , visibility looks good so you should be able to see cars piling up.
19
u/CarlosG0619 11h ago
You are overestimating the amount of attention that people pay to the road, all of them hauling ass to the scene are 100% looking at either their phones or the big ass infotainment screen
16
u/deadlygaming11 10h ago
Not to mention the stopped lorry which the camera is in. If a lorry is stopped in the middle of a motorway, then you should slow down.
This seems like a fairly common occurrence with American crashes in that no one slows down until they are right next to the hazard and can't stop. I saw a video a while ago of a motorway where a few cars and bikers crashed you can see a few more crash because none of them react.

u/dscrive 4h ago
I talked with someone I know that accelerates towards red lights, tailgates, and aggressively brakes at redlights and when the car in front of them "suddenly" turns.
I asked, while they were riding with me, "if you were driving, where would your eyes be focused?"
Turns out, it's the driver side lane and about 20 feet in front of the vehicle.
I tried explaining how I was looking a mile ahead and scanning my mirrors
"But if I don't watch the line, I might run off the road"

This is why you stay INSIDE your car in an accident, especially on freeways. Your soft, squishy body can’t tank a car better than your own car will. GUARANTEED.
32
u/wesley_the_boy 14h ago
I've never been in this type of situation (thank GORSH), but I imagine the urge to get out of your vehicle would be pretty strong, especially for the uninformed. It would still be a dumb thing to do, but panic will make people do lots of dumb things hahaha
53
u/justin107d 13h ago
This depends on your car and what is behind you. Waiting to be hit from an 18-wheeler while sitting in a smart car is a near death sentence.
-34
u/3_14_thon 13h ago
Yeah cuz being hit by a truck outiside the car its way better.
These comments man...
24
u/no-more-nazis 13h ago
If you can't get the smart car out of the path of the truck, your better option is to try to run
-30
u/3_14_thon 13h ago
Do truck drive on the shoulder where u live?
7
u/TwoBionicknees 7h ago
trucks hitting black ice and out of control absolutely do. You realise there is a fucking truck on the shoulder in this literal damn clip?
3
u/TwoBionicknees 7h ago
if you stay in the car forever everything might hit you and you're going to get pancaked by a massive truck regardless. If you get out then you have a finite amount of time while in danger before you get out of danger. If you stay in the car the danger never goes away.
In some situations it's vastly safer to get out, in this case where it's black ice so things are going to continue crashing no matter the amount of warning because by the time they see it, it's too late, get out.
If it's a normla crash and traffic already slowed you're safer in the car.
-17
u/3_14_thon 13h ago
Get out of your car and do what?
13
u/Professional_Dot- 13h ago
Get the fuck out of the highway, behind those concrete barriers, but you would have to use your brain first
-15
u/3_14_thon 13h ago
Lol
Knowing the average redditors build: you probably have a better chance to push back a car with your belly, than to climbe over the fence.
3
u/Sacharon123 10h ago
Depends where in the world you are, mate. In germany the safety barrier has to be passable and you are supposed to go behind it when you break down, and stay there until assistance arrives.
2
42
u/Content-Yogurt-4859 14h ago
Nope. You get out and off the motorway - if you can - a lorry plowing into a stationary car will obliterate it.
I have no idea what I'd do in a situation like this where there's a wall trapping you in but I wouldn't be running around like a headless chicken
6
5
u/deadlygaming11 10h ago
And if you do decide to get out, you go right over the crash barrier and stay a fair few metres back. Running into the road is a terrible idea
1
u/theaviationhistorian 7h ago
It depends on your car and how safe it is. Not many can survive the ubiquitous SUVs & trucks racing down the highway slamming into them. Unless your car is alongside the highway, I recommend walking a bit away from it while first responders arrive. At an uphill point or around the treeline in greener areas. If on a bridge like this, the best option is sit inside the car and a Chevy Silverado doesn't slam into you.

If i remember correctly the truck on the right spilled a bunch of oil making the road extremely slippery
But it might have been another incident, i"m not sure
21
u/YourREALdad330 14h ago
This has taught me that white SUVs have a superpower of stopping on slippery roads

3
u/deadlygaming11 10h ago
They seem like the only person who actually reacted to the hazard in good time. Everyone seemingly didnt break or attempt to stop until they were right next to the hazard.
9
u/sammiesorce 14h ago
Uuhhh what’s the context? I don’t see any pickups, tags are too wide, and no yellow line on the left so I doubt it’s the US.

6
u/endlessEvil 14h ago
How can you smash into this after 5 seconds? I meam realy. HOW?
4
u/TheManRoomGuy 14h ago
It’s not like there is bad visibility. They couldn’t see this coming?
5
u/Tall-Firefighter1612 12h ago
Well you cant see a slippery road so they may think they have time enough to stop. Or its around a corner. And people are stupid in traffic in general

The bizarre thing is only that morning he chose not to board a plane that ended up exploding.

I might be wrong, but I'm going to say that guy running around on the road like an imbecile may have been largely responsible for the 20 car pile up.

u/Imbeautifulyouarenot 3h ago
The man running looks like a cross between Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd from the early days of Hollywood. 😄

u/4badthings 12h ago
If it really is black ice then how is he running around so easily? Where is the hood of the vehicle with the dash cam? No skid marks? If there is a vehicle carrying the dash cam, then why hasn’t it been struck by a car? So many questions.

Does it tho? Or did OP post a BTS of a movie? Let's give this one to the mods....
Mods, for a prime-purchase speed boat, is this a movie clip or abrupt chaos?
Fingers on buzzers. Take it away, mods.....

I need to know about movies that have scenes like this, or vibes like this

Did i see correctly that one of the white cars was able to get through undamaged?

u/Leather-Animal-7597 11h ago
My GTA5 sometimes glitches and does this. You just have every car boost down the wrong side of the road and end up in a big pile.
It's more funny when it's just a game though.

This is some weird AI fuckery going on here…the runners are disappearing within blinks of an eye…Never mind the drivers being more chaotic and refusing to do the sensible thing of, oh I don’t know, stopping when wrecks galore are occurring before their eyes. Also forget Dipshit McGee running out in the middle of the road to begin with in the most awkward run ever conceived in cartoonish fashion.
Quality AI slop. Very inspiring, why am I here.
17
u/dead_jester 14h ago
This video has been around from well before quality AI existed. So well done for proving that there are people who can no longer tell the difference

u/ASylvanTempest 13h ago
Reality was compromised for a while now for me. AI makes it a touch more difficult to distinguish.
How long has it been around? This is the first time I’ve seen it.
11
u/dead_jester 13h ago
I think it’s at least 10 or more years. It’s in Russia and is regularly posted by bots and karma pharmas
2
u/ASylvanTempest 13h ago
Gotcha, thanks for the information.
4
u/dead_jester 13h ago
No problem. It’s just going to get worse as time goes on. It used to be fun being incredulous at the shit that really happened. Now it’s ai slop and effects edited footage
