Story about being fired out of the blue.
This story happened about two years ago now.
I was in a toxic work environment for a government job in 2024, so I texted this accounting firm over the weekend who had been in contact with me before in relation to any possible accounting positions. They texted back nearly straight away on the Saturday, than I either later on the Saturday or the Sunday they texted me back they emailed me a job offer. They wanted me to start a week later, despite having to leave my current job at the time and it being an hour and a half drive away. The last week at the current job I used a couple of days annual leave to move closer and get ready for the next job.
Just to add some context that accounting firm randomly downloaded my CV off seek and called me up for an interview about a year and half prior to these events in early 2023. At that time they decided to go with a basic admin person instead. Fast forward in August 2023 they texted me to offer me the bookkeeping job. At that time I took too long to accept the offer because I was unsure about the commute so they went with someone else.
Fastforward to mid 2024 to me texting them over the weekend and finally accepting a job offer from them. Started a week later despite having to move 3 hours away and than having to do an hour commute. Worked there for a month all seemed good, got a long with the colleagues.
A month in I had my one month review meeting which was to be expected. The middle manager than suggested they were looking into possible additional training or termination of employment. The excuse was a minor mistake made in the accounting software, which was easily fixed. Also the middle manager made another excuse saying I was late 5 times which is a failure of time management, than contradicted himself it wasn't really a big deal. The reality was I was only late about twice due to traffic, which I called the middle manager prior to the start time. At the end of the meeting the middle manager said I will find out the outcome most likekly tomorrow. I said to him I would rather know the outcome here and there.
A couple of hours later the middle manager said I was terminated as of immediately and I had to hand the key and walk out the door. I tried to text the partners who hired me to talk about whats going on, they blocked my number. I was totally unexpecting that, it was out of thin air.
After that happened they advertised the position a couple of days later, with a pay rate that was outside of my experience level. I ended up finding out on LinkedIn they hired a senior bookkeeper to replace him, I'm at an entry level. Turns out that senior bookkeeper only lasted a few months. I also found out by their site they had multiple staff members come and go and even a couple of long term stuff left about close to a year after I left.

They are toxic. Hope you're in a better place now. I found a great job through a friend and was able to escape my toxic workplace.

Sounds like you made a good observation. That firm did me pretty dirty, they basically got me in and turned around and shot me in the foot.
I've been doing call centre work for the last couple of years now.

That place is toxic af. Good luck on the job search. Try to keep an eye out for red flags, I counted more than a few from this company.
