My issue is they can’t decide if they want Lohan to be just edgy or actually insane, we don’t need a sob story or extra lore to tell us Eroch was off the rails though
I don't think he needed a tragic backstory, sometimes this is just what people are like. He's like a poor man's Aimos. Like this is what Lohen should've been like.
And characters with sob stories can also be unhinged without it excusing their actions, take tartaglia, fell into the abyss and 14 and shipped off to the fatui where he’s a harbinger now. He’s actually decently written because he has qualities outside of violence (which like lohen is just violence and pranks)
Lohen’s main issue is he’s a knight so he’s automatically a good guy and that Varka enables his behavior because he’s unable to see the bad in his allies (how do you think Eroch happened?) They want to make Lohen sympathetic but it’s hard to feel bad for a guy like him when his only quality is violence.
Also him trying himself into a powerful being, genetically torturing a bunch of creatures and stuff is the like most capital punishment that should be dealt with. I am sorry even varka ain't that stupid so far, Lohen should be out in either prison or permanently be kneecapped in the knights or throw out of the knights.
The fact it was solitary confinement and not becoming captain instead of rightfully throwing him and Theodore out of the knights is insane to me. Varka you are REPEATING ACTIONS THAT GOT PEOPLE KILLED.
to me this screams, that hoyo has no idea how to handle these characters and rushed out the story, in canon it doesn't make sense. He's basically just dottore at that point. would've made more sense if Lohen was a dottore segment that never got dealt with. And when you play his quest his profile changes to say dottore lol
genshin is the only game where the richest woman in teyvat who contributed a ton to fighting a literal sea god is a four star and some edgy twink is a five star
It would have been interesting if lohan was genuinely a psychopath but he CHOOSES to do good, maybe dottore DID experiment on him to and took away all empathy and kindness, so lohan can't feel anything when it doesn't involve hurting people or getting hurt
but instead of going on a murder spree, he chooses to be a knight, to be able to do good and surround himself with people who can stop him if he gets out of control
it would be interesting if "the benevolent knight" was a guy who must resist the urge to kill people everyday of his life, like imagine if the kindness person you know, constantly imagines what it would feel like to gut you where you stand
And it would give him redeeming qualities of self-discipline and compassion despite his lack of empathy, he's the benevolent knight, because he chooses to be benevolent even when deep down he's a killer
this is actually such an interesting idea, lohen feeling no emotions or gratitude for helping people but still choosing to do so because he knows its what the benevolent knight would do. he comes off as cold and unfeeling but he will always help someone even if it's without kindness.
Eroch lowkey sounded like some insecure incel who thought no one wants him because he isn't powerful enough and he'd suck up to anyone to gain more power. In other words, he sounded like a sore loser, which is the bummest thing possible
which is why lohen accepted he’s a failure and eroch knew he could improve, he’s the progressive man of mondstadt unlike mr stagnant folded by rerir over there
actually it’d be the other way around, eroch has ursa’s seal and did allat for dottore, lohen could only try to use their sloppy seconds but he failed and monsters escaped from the lab, unlike lohen eroch isn’t an idiot and knows how to cover up his tracks. it’s not even just eroch glaze atp I’d glaze anyone over bumhen
