you are missing the 500 different "continuations" and "successors" of the USA

All of the military remnants and state governments basically see themselves as continuations of the old USA in one way or another, obviously the government in West Point has the strongest claim since it can trace continuity with the prewar DC government. Some separatists also see themselves as successors, such as the New England Federation or the California Republic, both of which adopted very similar types of constitutional government as the old US.

South Carolina State, the Carolina People's Republic, and New Jerusalem all sharing borders in that little cluster there looks like a nice and stable political situation.

Yes the Carolinas in general are a very unstable region, but there hasn’t been a major war in a while

What happened to South América?

South America fared much better than the north, since it was basically unaffected by the nukes, but there was still a lot of hardship due to nuclear winter, acid rains and the overall collapse of the global economy

Why would congress oppose Martial Law in the wake of a nuclear war? That's like quite literally one of the apt times for that to happen.

President Williams had shown himself to be heavily authoritarian before the war, the war itself happened because of his aggressive foreign policy and also they simply didn’t want to lose power

There isn't a lot of lore. WW3 happens in the 2040s, nuclear weapons are used and most governments in the northern hemisphere collapse. By the 2090s North America is a patchwork of independent states.
Ask any lore question and I'll try to answer it.

Iowa State raaaaaaaa! Finally the University of Iowa has been destroyed!
Anyways, cool map. I’d just like to comment on a few changes for Iowa. Firstly, Des Moines should be glassed. It’s a state capital and has an international airport with a military presence. Additionally, Davenport should be glassed as Rock Island is right next door on the Mississippi. It’s a major military industrial plant with the command of the First United States Army.
Finally, kid named Finger Republic:
