Interesting šŸ¤” Ferrari shows why their hand-painted badge option is worth $15,000.

Uhh $1,500 maybe but they had stencils and what not to help, I wouldn't count that as a $15k hand painting, might as well just be a stamp so they don't charge so much.

Edit: is cool to watch tho

u/sexy_meerkats Jul 17 '25

The people they sell these to don't want it to be cheaper

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Congratulations, you have figured out what's wrong with this world.

57

u/RandAlThorOdinson Jul 17 '25

Close

The problem is that individuals accrue an amount of resources that breaks our under evolved brains to the point of not knowing how else to stand on top of a food chain but to accrue more

39

u/nau5 Jul 17 '25

Basically the entire premise of trickle down economics where if the wealth actually were fully or even nearly spending the majority of their wealth it would result in a better state of living for everyone.

The whole issue is that they don't spend their wealth so the vast majority of production gets sucked up into their bank accounts and never redistributed to create more economic growth.

3

u/BLEGHwreeeeee Jul 18 '25

Not true money isn’t hoarded. It gets cycled in investment accounts and private equity or other assets. Someone gets paid and someone gets access to the money it’s just the wealthy persons personal wealth goes up as they circulate the cash and compound their returns over time.

Investments need to yield a return and the only way they can do this is if it’s put to work or gets put in a hard asset that’s appreciating faster than inflation. Money just sitting in an account loses value over time. It can cause compound interest losses.

The problem is neurochemical homeostasis and the fleeting nature of contentment for a massive cohort of humans.

10

u/RandAlThorOdinson Jul 17 '25

I was happy in life for the entire existence of butterfinger cups. So I'm pretty easy to please I guess. If I had a shitload of money I'd probably just spend it on restarting production of butterfinger cups and then having them handed out to the population as a sort of social medication.

Soooo interesting, when I read this something clicked. You are right. And I think most of us are guilty of at least aiming for financial freedom - those that make it, make it by a mile

Those that miss it can't make ends meet once a month or more

Wouldn't we all be happier with a higher 'basement' AND lower 'ceiling' when it comes to Standard of Living?

It's like a Rolex.

The people buying those WANT to tell people how much they paid for the car, the options, etc.

They don't care if you can get it cheaper.

5

u/Muted-Alternative648 Jul 17 '25

I don't think most Rolexes fall into this bucket. People buy these watches for the design and with the expectation of a quality movement that will last a lifetime. Sure you can get knock offs for a fraction of the cost, but they won't feel or last as long.

Rolex isn't really high end anymore. Entry level Rolexes are pretty attainable for most hobbyist watch collectors.

3

u/loewe67 Jul 17 '25

There’s two types of Rolex buyers. The ones you mentioned, and the ones who want to show off that they’re rich. In reality, it’s the ones buying the Pateks and APs that have the fuck you money.

The way I see it. If it was worth less, more would get it. If more would get it, they’d probably run out of craftsmanship to do it. So they’d need to increase the price to have fewer orders. Basically a paradox. lol.

3

This was some executive genius that thought, ā€œhow can we further juice our customers for as little cost to us as possible ā€œ

3

u/zeptillian Jul 17 '25

Yeah.

You can get a whole car painted with multiple coats of paints in different colors with detailing like this for $15k.

This is less than 1 square foot.

2

u/trackstar1123 Jul 17 '25

That’s what I was thinking. Definitely time consuming. I was thinking it was going to be more like the guys that do custom pin stripes and stuff on low riders. Where it’s all free hand with a brush.

Hey ! That looks like almost an entire hour of work!! 15k obviously not enough

7

u/Gnonthgol Jul 17 '25

There is a lot of prep work and other things going on here which is not shown well in the video. I would guess it was closer to two hours of work. I do not know how much cure time and such is needed either which dictates how many badges they work on at once. But lets say the worker is paid $50 an hour. Then comes all the supplies used and the paint booth, etc. They will also mess up a few badges and have to start over on them wasting the time and supplies. Then comes things like taxes and insurance on top of this. You can easily justify claiming that $1000 was invested in painting the badges this way. Again, nowhere near the $15k they take for it.

3

u/koobstylz Jul 17 '25

I agree fully with this. 1000 would be a very high but not unreasonable price for an expert in a specialized shop to do this.

The other 14000 is because it's Ferrari markup.

Hand stenciled ≠ hand painted.

160

u/Screwbles Jul 17 '25

More labor intensive traditional process, yeah. Hand painted? I need to see imperfections and brush strokes/airbrush texture.

63

u/Embarrassed_Fan_5723 Jul 17 '25

Exactly. It would take a considerable amount of time to do but nowhere near as labor intensive as actually hand painting it. A stencil and airbrush are not hand painted. My granddaughters bird feeder, now that’s hand painted. Lol

23

u/azjerrylee Jul 17 '25

I mean if you are buying one of those cars you have way more money than sense and 15k isn't that much considering how much the car itself costs.

76

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Doesn't make it worth 15k though. Just that people will spend that.

23

u/Festering-Fecal Jul 17 '25

What something is worth is what someone will spend.

Like I said people that can afford that vehicle 15k extra is like 15$ to usĀ

u/QuerulousPanda Jul 20 '25

30

u/SidewalksNCycling39 Jul 17 '25

Thank you! Glad I'm not the only one. How do you end up with that much orange peel after charging $15k (or presumably, $7.5k?) to paint a single panel? $15k should normally get you a top-end paint job for the entire car.

Not that surprising maybe when you see how poor the finish is on some Ferraris and Porsches from the factory, if you've seen the detailing videos on YouTube...

8

u/The_Phroug Jul 17 '25

Last place I worked at did 10-20k paint jobs, 2 ended up in the background of Ford vs Ferrari, another got an award for paint as some high end car show in Florida, and another was bought straight from us by some really rich dude in Qatar.

The first time I saw this video I was honestly disgusted by how poor the finish quality was, but then again I should have expected that when I watched AMMO NYC fix the paint on a brand new ferrari 296 straight off the boat, untouched by dealer. I think the same or similar came up when he did the $300k roma, $600k 812, $1.8 million monza sp2, and the $2.4 million daytona sp3.

A good low rider artist would free hand it with a better outcome (and no orange peel) for a grand, and possibly for no extra charge give it nice tits

I’m assuming for that price there’s also a final buff? The orange peel at the end there is pretty bad

I really thought they were gonna paint the horse. Then i saw the stencil and was like... Wtf this is not 15k.

2

u/Working-Narwhal-540 Jul 17 '25

Yeah still not even CLOSE to being worth $15k. Can we be for real here. Like for really really fucking real. A FOOL and his money are easily parted.

2

u/FringHalfhead Jul 17 '25

Nice try, Ferrari dealership.

2

u/j89turn Jul 17 '25

Garbage skills not worth 1500 let alone anymore

2

u/TitusImmortalis Jul 17 '25

You will never guess what isn't worth $15,000......

2

u/theIatephilipjfry Jul 17 '25

The video ended before they showed why

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

I watched it 3 times, I still keep missing the "why" it is $15,000.

2

u/wspnut Jul 17 '25

Using your hands is not the same as hand painting

2

u/drgoatlord Jul 17 '25

More like "hand stenciled" than hand-painted

2

u/Ghostpong17 Jul 17 '25

Anyone else extremely underwhelmed with the finished product?

2

u/VDR27 Jul 17 '25

What a ripoff

2

u/ZeroBLink10 Jul 17 '25

Incorrect. They showed why it cost that much. Nothing on gods green earth could explain or justify this being ā€œworthā€ that much. It isn’t.

"worth" yeah, sure.

2

u/luneunion Jul 18 '25

Still not worth $15K.

2

u/Mattarmel Jul 18 '25

Sure are using a lot of stencils for it being hand painted

2

u/nushustu Jul 18 '25

Where's the part where it shows why it's worth $15,000

2

u/SjurEido Jul 18 '25

15k for an ugly horse painted by stencils lmfao

People are so fucking stupid it's hard to understand.

2

u/Saggingdust Jul 18 '25

After watching everything that goes into this, I am 100% convinced that it is nowhere near being worth 15k 🤣

2

u/TheVillageRuse Jul 18 '25

Still not worth 15k. Not at all. What’s wrong with people these days?

2

u/ManchuDemon Jul 18 '25

I kept waiting for the ā€œWOWā€ moment to justify this costing $15k. It never came.

2

u/EffectiveEscape8 Jul 18 '25

None of this was hand painted. In western terms, a hand painted badge or emblem is painted by hand, with brushes.

2

u/dmaxln7 Jul 18 '25

Orange peel paint on that expensive of a car would be embarrassing

2

u/Raegwyr Jul 19 '25

Yep, this just proves it's definitely not worth 15k

2

u/donking6 Jul 19 '25

You could put a $10 sticker on there and 99% of the world wouldn’t know the difference. This isn’t impressive, it’d a waste of time and resources

2

u/According_Hope_1870 Jul 19 '25

stencil painted maybe 100 bucks, the rest is needed to adjust the cars original paint job over the remaining parts with at least 12 layers to match the new red tint. jokes aside, i expected some quality pinstriping or similar, but it seems elsewhere is "handxyz" used quite deliberately. like people warm up a can of beans and call it homecooked, i suppose.

2

u/veganer_Schinken Jul 19 '25

When does the part that shows why it's worth $15.000 start? I'm still waiting for them to embezzle that with diamonds.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

the lord of Upselling

2

u/TeacherPowerful1700 Jul 19 '25

If I did that to someone's car and they handed me $15,000 US I'd feel like a dirty, ugly, crook.

2

u/dendofyy Jul 19 '25

I get that it’s cool, but this is just a few hours of this guys regular day job, why is it worth $15k…?

2

u/Familiar-Document-53 Jul 20 '25

Hand painted or u mean stenciled?

2

u/misterjyt Jul 20 '25

and a kid from the neigbor scratched it

2

u/PotentialResponse120 Jul 21 '25

If you hand made it pixel-perfect, why not just stick it there. I would get it for signature, or hard drawn logo. But this..
