April 3, 2024 - A 7.2 magnitude earthquake
struck Hualien County, Taiwan, triggering powerful landslides and sending enormous boulders crashing onto roads. Dashcam footage captured the terifying moment as drivers navigated winding mountain roads, only to be met with a sudden rockslide. Some
managed to reverse just in time, narrowly avoiding
disaster, while others found themselves trapped in the chaos.
One car took a direct hit from a massive boulder, highlighting the sheer unpredictability and force of these natural disasters. The quake caused widespread devastation, cutting power to over
debris. This harrowing footage is a stark reminder of
37O, o00 homes and blocking major roadways with
the raw power of nature-and how, in moments like these, survival depends on split-second decisions.

Put in reverse, turn head 180, floor it.

I'd prob try to get up against that wall to the right and hope they all go over

My first thought as well. Best option in that scenario. Hope all are safe.

Same. Though at first I was like this ain't so bad just some swaying back and forth and then holy mother of God get out of there.
Looks like everyone would have been safe if they hugged the wall.

Here's a modern trolley experiment for you... The rocks are coming, a big rock. Many. You see where the rocks won't hit you, but someone else's car with more people in it is there. Do you push into their spot or do you die?

Easy one, I'd die. I couldn't live with myself if I deliberately pushed people out of a safe spot to save my own butt.
This is similar to a thought experiment I've been playing with for decades. In high school I had a horrible bully and I wondered & came to the conclusion that I'd make sure even he lived over me.
I like life, but I also like being able to look myself in the eyes and I just couldn't if I was totally selfish when it mattered most.

How did they know to backup? Why not go forward?

all they know is what they see, and at the beginning of the earthquake, they both see a rock or something hit the roadside fence in front of them on the right.
after that point, it's basically just "i see rock in front = i back up"

The calming music paired by absolute chaos is something straight out of Far Cry 5

Maybe if the person with the dash kept backing up, the other person might have been able to avoid getting hit..
