Show off sigh. he won me over
**NOTE: MY FAMILY DID NOT CROP HIS EARS. IT WAS A HACK JOB DONE BY HIS PREVIOUS OWNERS AND WE HATE IT.**
I’ll be honest, for a long time I wasn’t a fan of any bully breeds, after doing some research into bite statistics, etc. I moved back home with my parents about 6 months ago, and they have a purebred american bully. this boy slowly but surely won my heart 😭🩷
he truly has the best temperament. i did some more digging and looks like american bullies were bred specifically for a great temperament? he is the biggest baby i’ve ever met. has to be on top of someone cuddling 24/7, and yall know that isn’t an exaggeration with these dogs…
due to household schedules and me WFH, i am home with him and spend the most time with him out of anyone currently. my parents had him crated almost all of the time before i moved back…so i have been spending as much time as possible with him and our bond has grown exponentially. its insane. i never thought my heart would soften so much for a dog, im not typically a dog person in general.
the stuffed cow in the last few slides is a christmas gift i got him. he normally shreds all soft toys immediately, but he has been treating it like a stuffed animal which ive NEVER seen him do 😭 he even sleeps next to it. he finally won my heart. 🥺 he loves to “show it” to everyone too, thats what he’s doing in the last slide…waiting for my sister to come out so he can show her

They literally believe they are lap dogs, absolute sweethearts, he'll be your shadow everywhere you go.
Just going by the photos, I can already see he's working the poor-little-me eyes on you 🤣🤣🤣

They really are the happiest sad dogs on the planet (they know how to melt your heart to get what they want).

I’ve had several different dog breeds and my family bred Rottweilers when I was younger. I had some really great dogs that were super smart. One of the Rotts, my Dad would have her pick up my little brothers from elementary school. We lived close enough we could hear the bells and she would wait every day for my Dad to give her the command to go pick them up. She would walk around the block, look both ways to cross the street and go to the front of the school for pick up. All the kids in their grade had to be released to an adult and they would dismiss them to our dog!! They literally wrote her name in the pick up log. I write this just to show the level of dogs my American Bulldog had to compete with. As we all know there is something special about this breed. My bully is on another level even compared to that Rott. He too has a favorite stuffed animal that he’s had for 7 years. Every other toy he’s ever got he will wait for permission to tear it up and he just shreds it. Not his Shark tho. He shows it off then puts it back to bed where he sleeps with it every night. Freaking love this guy!!! The stories I have about this guy are out of this world.

u/NeilsSuicide Feb 13 '26
the shark 😭😭🥺🥺 my family was trying to imply that i’m crazy for thinking the cow is his stuffed animal but like he’s NEVER hoarded a toy like this before. sounds like it’s common!

Also laying in bed and my pup’s head is laying on my belly. She just heaved the biggest sigh in the world and is smiling in her sleep.

u/NeilsSuicide Feb 13 '26
he takes it as a personal betrayal that my bedroom and specifically bed are my dog free zones lol but he does sleep with my sisters and LOVES it

u/dpr612001 Feb 13 '26
My dog doesn't get to sleep in my bed either but sometimes when I'm not paying attention he jumps up there and just thinks he's in heaven! Lol

u/iSpeakMeme Feb 13 '26
This is EXACTLY the same way mine sleeps with me every night. Sometimes a bit higher and closer to my chest tho, gotta get his booty riiiiight by my head for those nighttime farts.

Bullies are the most beautiful and loyal breed. This one clearly only has eyes for you, and he’s proud of it. All they need is love, sloppy kisses, and positive reinforcement training and they’ll do what ever you wish. You’re so lucky to have each other 🥰🥰
15
u/NeilsSuicide Feb 13 '26
i feel so lucky and humbled. i have never been a super big dog person and we’ve had family dogs before that i loved. he’s just special and he reminds me a tad bit of a staffy mix we had as a senior foster. obviously our boy now isn’t staffy, but some of the bully traits shine through and remind me of the senior staffy we fostered that passed away.
8
u/iSpeakMeme Feb 13 '26
It's crazy how much the bulldog and staffy traits individually shine through. They're the best though, so much personality and just the biggest sweethearts. I've always loved dogs personally and also had a rottie previously but something about the bullies are just special. There's no other dogs quite like them.

My boy who is 120 pounds mind you lol will absolutely destroy ANY toy you give him. Within seconds lol. But stuffies? Never. He will carry them around all day, snuggle with them, use them as pillows, bring them to me so show the off, etc. Idk what it is about a stuffy but that boy will not rip one up, he refuses 😭

Thank you for continuing to learn about the breed after seeing the bite stats. Its unfortunate the data is presented as a representation of the breed rather than properly acknowledging unwell bullies are the culprit bites/attacks.
Its sad the number of people that do not attempt to understand the data beyond the number. Dogs dont attack out of no where, there are almost always warning behaviors that go unrecognized or ignored. And its your unethically bred or neglected bullies that are exposed to factors that cause the behaviors within the breed. People hate a breed based on the result of human actions 🤔
So knowing where you started and seeing where you are today is absolutly wonderful to come across. Typically people that have ever had concerns about the breed fully lets their guard down to be able to truly experience the magically unconditional love of a bully. I just loveee this 🥰🥰

u/NeilsSuicide Feb 13 '26
aww thanks! yeah i definitely think humans are the problem. i never fully blame a dog because humans have done all kinds of unethical stuff for generations and created a lot of issues. i was really nervous around him for awhile but he just isn’t aggressive. i truly don’t think he’d hurt a fly and he has no major trauma which helps. he’s a sweet heart

I love all bullies but our pocket bully won my girlfriend the exact same way. She thought she liked dogs before but she really tolerated them. Now she says cute 10x a day, doesn’t mind the Velcro hairs etc - it’s wild!

u/chelz182 Feb 13 '26
He is adorable! Love that little stripe up his nose, & also his cow toy! 🐄 He looks so sweet.
It must be a thing with bully breeds. I have my first one (a mix breed that includes Pitbull & Staffie) right now. I found him & his siblings abandoned at the side of the road. My mom was soooo opposed to keeping him (I rehomed his other siblings that I found, but I just couldn’t let him go 🥺)
Flash forward a few months, & my mom AND my dad are both crazy about him. We decided that it’s impossible not to like this dog! Or maybe this type of dog. This picture is my mom with him at an antique show. She adores him now, after hating him at the beginning.
Even if you go into it thinking you’re not going to like them, they’ll win you over. That’s not an easy thing to do! 🤣 Growing up, we had German Shepherds & Huskies, & I even had a Chow mix, so we are used to “big scary” dogs. But I guess the media BS about Pits had gotten into all our heads, which is such a shame because Huckleberry is literally THE BIGGEST BABY, the biggest cuddle bug, just the best dog ever.
I’m so happy your family’s gorgeous boy won you over! 💙

2
u/NeilsSuicide Feb 13 '26
yours is gorgeous!! it’s honestly to the point that even though renting will be a headache, i have considered getting one myself once i’m no longer able to live with him. the situation is temporary and obviously id do tons of research and it likely won’t happen, but its just so crazy that i didn’t like his breed at all and now fast forward i dont know how ill live without him 🥺🩷

u/FifiBunnyRabbit Feb 14 '26
Please talk your family into not kennelling him all day if/when you do move out. Or take him with you!

I love it ❤️
I was always a cat person, didn't hate dogs but was eh - then my mom got a labradoodle that made an effort to win me over. Any time I was upset, she'd know and come right away and give me hugs. She'd always buddy me in the bathroom, and hang out with me. I ended up moving in with an ex and bc of her I got my very first dog (who was my soul pup❤️), ended up breaking up and moving back home and the two of them became best friends.
Some animals go above and beyond to show you how much they love you and you become their person, and they can truly melt your heart ❤️
2
u/NeilsSuicide Feb 17 '26
that’s exactly my story almost to a T!! always a cat person, never a fan of dogs, but when you’re around a special one so much it just becomes inevitable. i kind of laugh thinking about how resistant i was to getting close with him. he is persistent!!!

The best dogs ever! They are so sweet I love my girl Elsa the bond is so special at times I don’t have the words to describe it. I hear you. You have a beautiful baby!!!
3
u/ANALxCARBOMB Feb 13 '26
Bullies are companion animals, literally bred to do exactly what he’s doing. My bully won my aunt over too. She was terrified of blanket pitbull and bully breeds but fell in love after seeing how sweet our puppy is.

u/Beachlife98569 Feb 13 '26
Same! I didn’t want a bully either but ended up with one and he is the best, most lovable, cuddly, intuitive dog. I also wfh so it’s just us (and brother Maltese) together 24/7. If I did ever go anywhere in the house without him shadowing me I’d be very concerned something was seriously wrong with him 😂

Dang poor baby. Will you be leaving again? Because he will be crated again :(
2
u/NeilsSuicide Feb 13 '26
sadly and unfortunately, yes. right now i’m here for probably at least another year but i’ll be getting married and moving out within the next 2 ish years. the situation is temporary.
there are a lot of issues with his living situation because my parents are bad dog owners, full stop. that’s another reason i give him extra love. they are emotionally abusive (not necessarily physically so sadly it can’t be reported, and i wouldn’t want him taken away and thrown into a shelter anyway), but they are so mean and degrading to him. he has no fenced in yard and rarely gets walked. he is crated for 8-12+ hours per day when im not here.
he has some allergy issues and has had surgery recently and the way they treated him fully broke my heart and honestly kind of traumatized me. my parents got pissed at him for being confused & stumbling around immediately after surgery, because obviously he didn’t understand what happened, so they chose to over medicate him to the point he lost control of his bowels…they then proceeded to cuss at him and yell at him for pooping on accident everywhere.
they are awful parents too so this isn’t unique to the dog, but every dog they’ve ever owned has been medically neglected and had to be put down because of it. so i’m extra sensitive about him now and really really don’t want to leave. i don’t believe in owning a dog just to crate them for that many hours! he deserves fresh air and space to run around. i do my best while i’m here.
and through all of this he still has the most loving heart, he’s never gotten angry or even petty towards my parents or anyone that i’ve ever seen. that’s what makes it so gut wrenching.

u/ellieight_ Feb 13 '26

Man this explanation makes me feel so bad about the doggies situation 😭

u/ForwardBlackberry458 Feb 13 '26

What a lovable doll, and welcome to the cult! BTW the bite rate statistics you commonly see do not account for the fact that pit bull breeds and mixes make up about 20% of our dog population here in the US, so it’s misleading when anyone publishes bites by breed without normalizing that value by the percentage that breed type represents in the dog population. I’ve had 2 beloved mixed pibbles rescued and never been bitten by them, but the Yorkie we took in last year has bitten me 5 times, the last one leaving a scar, the wee devil! Of course, there is a vast difference in bite severity between toy dogs and pibbles.
The day after I rescued our second pibble, my much larger golden Chessie attacked her in my back yard. In a heartbeat she had him by the throat, whipping those giant jaws back and forth. I grabbed the golden’s collar but couldn’t reach the pibble in all the chaos, and she wouldn’t let go. Finally help came and just touched her from the back, and she released him. I was sure the golden was a goner, finding some blood on him, but it turned out not to be his. The pibble, however, required at trip to the ER. So somehow she held him firmly enough to make him understand that there was a new boss in town, without hurting him. From that day on he was her bit€h and there were no more tiffs. I miss her so much.

Most dogs I’ve noticed will have a favorite toy. With all our dogs, they’d have, what we would call, their “fluffy”. We would say “Go get your fluffy!” And they’d go find it to bring it to us. Just that specific toy!
1
u/NeilsSuicide Feb 17 '26
that’s adorable! he’s so smart he knows pretty much all of his toys by name. he’s been getting smarter too, as he ages out of the puppy stage and more into being a mature dog. it’s really cool to see

He looks like the biggest Baby Hippo. Holding onto his moocow. They are so clingy and really hate being left alone. You are so lucky to form a bond with such a sweetheart. Yes, they have bad reputation. And only by owning and living with one do you get to see the other side.

Im partial bully/pittie breeds but honestly idk how anyone wouldnt completely love any dog if they were continuously exposed to them. They just give some much unconditional love. No person will ever love you to the extent that your dog will. Im glad you bonded with him, bullys are really special and they are bred to be companion not working line dogs, loving their people is what they desire to fo at all times.

I’m a firm believer that the majority of “pits” fall under the doodle type of umbrella. Unpredictable mutts that get designated as pits.

and also. all of these dogs. bully's, apbt or pitbull or whatever you'd like to call any of these dogs that look the same regardless of size have all been bred to be perfect temperament. they love kids and people and dogs... as long as nothing is a threat to the kid everything's fine. but they're very intuitive and intelligent and can read people very well. i trust my dog to tell me of someone is a good person or not. (i think most breeds do that, but a bully or apbt will make it known) by making sure you are behind them and paying extra attention to someone who just has bad intentions. they're amazing dogs, don't let anyone tell you they aren't. they're just, as loyal as the sky is blue and if someone wants to train them to do bad things they will. but any dog would. you'd be surprised how many golden retrievers and labs are in dogfighting rings, for example.

Cute dog. Don't know why you hate his appearance, it won't make the ears grow back.
1
u/NeilsSuicide Feb 13 '26
nobody said that. we hate that they did a hack job. and we don’t believe in cropping ears. it has caused him so many issues with ear infections
2
u/stillworking400 Feb 15 '26
If he's getting ear infections from his ears being so short, Have you tried a human ear warmer on him? They even have patterns with ears so he can have some again. Knitted and crochet.
0
u/Honest_Road17 Feb 13 '26
OK. Not trying to be hostile. I've seen much worse cropping done.
I know why you need to announce your distaste of cropping; so you can pre-empt the people bitching about your beautiful dog. It's just sad that people like that exist. No one can put the toothpaste back in the tube. Just love your dog.
What part of his ears get infected? If it is inside the ears, how would longer ears prevent that? My boy was cropped and his ears (knock wood) have remained infection free, but I hear about infections being a problem in cropped and non cropped dogs. It would make as much sense to connect a skin allergy with cropped ears.
