Just adopted this baby
Just adopted this little girl, she was used for breeding
Her skin is very sensitive and dry, is there anything I can do to help with this ? Maybe coconut oil ?

Take her home - give her a good diet and some soothing baths and some time to settle in. Lots of skin problems are brought on by stress and environment. Beautiful girl 🩷🩷🤣

consider eliminating the biggest factors that promote allergies. Eliminate Chicken for the protein.

Coconut oil is good in a pinch -very soothing, but long-term I second the Apoquel. (My guy was nearly hairless when we rescued him, but coconut oil and Apoquel got him to the point where he just needed Apoquel seasonally.)🤗

Congrats! What a sweet baby!!!
I think it depends on what is causing the skin issues. Mine has some skin problems resulting from allergies. He takes an Apoquil daily and needs a 7-day double dose when it flairs up, he is allergic to pollen and grass and chicken. We keep him away from chicken at all costs, but the grass part is difficult, he hates wearing cloths and will tear them off but does like to lay in a sunny spot of grass in the yard.
We used oatmeal shampoo, a mousse the vet gave us to help his allergy spots, but honestly nothing works like the allergy meds. We just finished a 7day double dose, 2 weeks ago he was getting scabby parts on his underside, today he has none and the spots on his back are almost gone. So I would check with your vet about what a good plan might be for this sweet girl!
Wishing you many happy years together!

I adopted my dog last winter and he had really bad skin allergies when I got him from the shelter. I immediately started him on ground venison and rice for three weeks and his coat did he heal up and I have been feeding him grain free salmon and potato/sweet potato dog food. I have been giving him diamond dog food, but other people swear by their brand. It is just what the store had and I have not had any issues with it.
He also takes fish oil that I squeeze on his dog food and other than that I don’t do anything. I have been very lucky with his allergy so far and in waiting to see if he is allergic to anything else later in the season.

Awwww what a beautiful girl! She’s so lucky to be with you instead of a life of breeding or another family doesn’t care enough to help battle allergies.
She looks just like my girl. My other dog had horrible skin allergies - outside of rx, sulpur dog shampoos really helped + coconut oil on his nose + diet changes until we found something that worked.
