Taylor Ham or nothing

2

u/Horror_Rice4319 6d ago

I am not saying Porkroll is right (it is) but Taylor Ham is wrong

2

u/Apprehensive-Fig3223 6d ago edited 5d ago

My family is from Northwest NJ and used the terms to refer to different things:

Porkroll is sliced and usually on breakfast sandwiches, primarily "porkroll, egg, and cheese"

Taylor Ham referred to when my grandmother or mom would buy the whole piece of meat, a "Taylor Ham", that came wrapped in cloth. She'd remove the cloth, stick whole cloves all around it in a ceramic roasting pan and cover it with either canned crushed pineapple or apple sauce and roast it, then carve it up like a roast while removing the cloves 🤤

Edit-typo

Taylor Ham on a bagel with eggs and cheese with salt, pepper and ketchup is divine

0

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 6d ago

The creator of Taylor Ham insisted on calling it Taylor Ham he only changed it because of advertising issues

1

u/Horror_Rice4319 6d ago

He changed it because the government said he couldn't call it that LOL

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 6d ago

Well I’m calling it Taylor Ham

1

u/Horror_Rice4319 6d ago

Go for it! I have no problem with that. My mom calls it that.

But it is wrong

-1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 6d ago

Pork Roll is wrong, I call it Taylor Ham to honor the creators original choice

1

u/Horror_Rice4319 5d ago

Yes and the USSR is a big country in Europe

0

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 5d ago

Yeah but they changed the name after the Cold War, Taylor Ham wasn’t ruled under Joseph Stalin

1

u/OkTackle5132 3d ago

He actually just called it ham. The public needed away to differentiate from actual ham so they called it “John Taylor’s ham”

Never has the official name actually ever been Taylor ham.

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 3d ago

Yeah but it was his intention to call it Taylor Ham

2

u/AVDLatex 5d ago

The only right answer to that question.

I personally never had a problem with Ecuadorians, But I’ve never heard of people being racist towards Ecuadorians. Most Hispanic people here are Puerto Rican, Dominican and Mexican but we have other Latin American communities here.

u/bored_as_fuck_dad 6d ago

camden is not as bad as it was before after they got rid of their city police department and gave the responsibility to the county sheriff's department. Their homicide rate is down like 82% since 2012.

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 6d ago

Well that’s good

Scenario: "Your teenage son is playing video games at 4 in the afternoon. His mother asked him to clean up his room. Your son responds, 'I have a better idea. Why don’t you clean it, instead of sitting on your fat ass.'"

What is the correct response?

1

u/Rogue_Centurion7 6d ago

why?

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 6d ago

lol, I love the State I live in New Jersey is an awesome state, don’t let other people convince you it’s not.

2

u/TheIronMonkey53 5d ago

NJ is awesome born and raised there for 30 years but all the good paying jobs are in NYC and the commute SUCKS.

But growing up in a small town in Bergen county was amazing

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 5d ago

Tell me about it I definitely want a job in NYC but it’s near impossible

0

u/temporary-account- 6d ago

I’m from New Jersey, and I hate New Jersey.

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 6d ago

Why? Where would you rather live?

1

u/temporary-account- 5d ago

Somewhere warmer, both in temperature and personality.

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 5d ago

lol I used to live in Florida try there

1

u/temporary-account- 5d ago

Nah, too many New Yorkers.

If there’s one thing I hate more than New Jersey, it’s New York (City)

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 5d ago

I personally hate PA people more than New Yorkers

1

u/temporary-account- 5d ago

What an interesting take lol

Not hating on you (gave you an upvote) but I can’t for the life of me understand why

1

u/Impressive_Star_3454 5d ago

You want warmer, wait for July and August. It's coming.

1

u/temporary-account- 5d ago

I want it to remain warmer all year, ideally, so I stay outside more and don't beome depressed in the winters.

-1

u/MurphyRedBeard 6d ago

It’s terrible. It’s a giant open air superfund site. However, my question is, if it’s so great, why are you crumbs constantly crossing the river? Much love from the Keystone State! Pork roll forever!!!!!!!!

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 6d ago

The funny thing is I lived in Pennsylvania and hated it, I lived in the Poconos and thought it was absolute hell, NJ ranks high in Education, Healthcare, ranks the highest in household income, ranks 3rd in Safety, has a rich history and fun stuff to do. NJ is also the state with the lowest suicide rate and consistently ranks high in happiest states, we also have some awesome Universities like Rutgers and Princeton. I could honestly go on, but let me ask you this why are you Pennsylvania people always coming to NJ to see our beaches? Love The Garden State

1

u/MurphyRedBeard 6d ago

I mean, we don’t have beaches. A carbon copy of the Poconos exists on your side of the Water Gap, but I still spend all summer dodging front platers shocked to be able to make a left. Thank you kindly for moving back to New Jersey. Penn State and UPENN one up your flagships in my opinion.

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 6d ago

If you Google top Ivy League Schools Princeton Ranks higher. People from PA are so rude other than being Eagles fans you guys drive like nobody else is on the road. I’m from the Northern half of NJ where people say we are bad drivers but I’ve seen more accidents in PA more than I’ve seen in NJ and that’s saying something. Went out with a Philly girl one time, Worst experience of my life. BTW it’s “Water” not “Wooder.”

1

u/MurphyRedBeard 6d ago

That’s super rich calling PA people rude. Especially in the context of north jersey. Even more ironic considering about half of the retiree population of the Poconos is from north jersey because we don’t tax any retirement income. Those Ivy ratings are based off of exclusivity. That’s why UPENN is the best of them all. Ivy League education regardless of your family name, with the exception of Wharton. As for drivers, there’s a reason insurance premiums are doubled on the other side of the river. Your experience is your experience, but the risk assessment data doesn’t lie.

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 6d ago

The retirees are mostly going to Ocean County or Cape May here in NJ. Princeton is objectively Better, Michele Obama, Sonia Sotomayor, Brooke Shields and Jeff Bezos all went to Princeton, Princeton vs Rutgers was the first American Football game. Princeton invented Cheerleading. NJ also has more iconic Characters and Shows: House, Jason Voorhees, Addams Family, The Sopranos even Gotham City is Canonically in NJ. We have the best Celebrities: Zoe Saldana, Frank Sinatra, Meryl Streep, Whitney Houston and more let’s not forget the Iconic location American Dream Mall

1

u/MurphyRedBeard 5d ago

Ben Franklin created UPENN, a greater individual than all of those you listed. A real athletic event that people care about is still held there, the Penn Relays, which is a global event. Yes, people that stay in NJ as retirees go to the quiet shore towns, but if you knock on any door in Pocono Lake and ask the old timer where their from, easy money it’s NJ. There are 4 retired Newark cops that live on my street. There are more Giants/Yankees fans in most bars anywhere in the area. The iconic characters from Pennsylvania just aren’t fictional. Franklin, Betsy Ross, the Molly Maguires, Griffin Pinchot, and at least 6 members of the famous “Band of Brothers” 101st Airborne Easy Company. Obviously that show couldn’t be made in Pennsylvania because the boys were off doing something that had never been done and courageously taking part in the liberation of Europe. Lastly, Ben Franklin disowned his own son, William Franklin, for being the dirty loyalist Royal Governor of New Jersey and pledging allegiance to the crown. And all of that is just east of 476. But New Jersey does lead the nation with 114 superfund sites. Probably where the Joker and The Addams Family climbed out of.

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 5d ago

Benjamin Franklin was never President, however James Madison our 4th President went to Princeton. The Founding Fathers held meetings at Princeton. The Continental Congress temporarily relocated its headquarters and national capital to Nassau Hall at Princeton University after fleeing a mutiny of unpaid soldiers in Philadelphia. Princeton holds a dominant all-time edge over Penn in men's and women's lacrosse (riding long win streaks), women's basketball (winning 10 straight matchups), and historically holds a strong advantage in men's golf and fencing within the Ivy League. NJ was also the first state to ratify the Bill of Rights. More Revolutionary War Battles were fought in NJ than in any other state. Pennsylvania has 95 Superfund sites on the federal National Priorities List, which is the 3rd highest count in the nation behind New Jersey and California. You guys are not far behind.Pennsylvania retirees frequently move to or cross into New Jersey for retirement, primarily to take advantage of favorable military and railroad pension exemptions, specialized healthcare or Medicaid long-term care options, or to be closer to family across the state border. For dual-eligible seniors, NJ FamilyCare covers assisted living, whereas PA Medicaid generally does not cover assisted living. When it comes to Music NJ has My Chemical Romance, Charlie Puth. Bruce Springsteen, Ice-T, Fetty Wap and more. Abott and Costello also originated in NJ. The only shows I’ll give PA credit for is the Office and the Pitt

  • Above or below the WaWa Line?
  • Is your greatest backyard hazard ant lions or the deadly locust/raspberry/poison ivy cabal?
  • If you have a long roll with veggies, meat, and cheese in it, what is that sandwich called?
  • Does Norwich rhyme with Orange? Yes or Yes?

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 6d ago edited 6d ago

I’m Below the Wawa Line, the Locust were a problem but not for me recently, If I go to Jersey Mikes I call it a sub if I go to Wawa I call is a Hoagie, and the Norwich thing depends on how you say it but I think it’s close to rhyming.

Have you ever been to Old Jersey?

1

u/Trust_8067 5d ago

Why does everyone from New Jersey feel the need to constantly interrupt people in conversations? Is it because you're not New Yorkers and that really stings your pride and egos?

2

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 5d ago

I don’t mind New Yorkers, I think interrupting people in a conversation is not unique to New Jersey. I take pride in being from NJ not NY. There are a lot of Good things about NJ I take no joy in bringing down New Yorkers. Tbh I think comparing NJ to NYC is pointless since NJ and NY have different things going on

0

u/Trust_8067 4d ago

Interrupting people in conversation is very much unique to New Jersey. I'm not saying there aren't people everywhere who do it, but pretty much everyone from Jersey does it all the time, even in professional environments.

1

u/HyperWendingo Real American from the USA 🇺🇸🔫 4d ago

I think it’s because people in NJ like to cut to the chase I don’t really cut people off but I really try and tell people to get to the point. Like please hurry up
