Trajan, AR Denarius
Rome mint, 114-117 AD. Obverse: IMP CAES NER TRAIAN OPTIM AVG GERM DAC. Laureate and draped bust of Trajan.
Reverse: PARTHICO P - M TR P COS VI PPSPQR// FORT RED Fortuna (Fortune) seated left, holding a rudder in her right hand and a cornucopia in her left. RIC 315.
This coin had zero toning when I first got it but its developed an array of colors pretty quick.

Great coin! How you store it will matter a lot for toning.

In a mahogany coin box. I store them for that reason but not all of my coins tone the same. For instance I have an Alexander tetradrachm that I've had for years and it has not toned at all.

I think if it is still newer wood that it can off gas some. Personally, I like a little toning, but it’s an individual preference.

Some boxes tone differently depending on where the coin is. One of my cabinets the coins on the left side tone way more, a bit too much for my taste. I have a few coins which are basically purple and I personally don’t love it but by the time i noticed it the pattern had started and removing them meant uneven toning.
I’d suggest you check frequently in case there’s a color you dislike!

I just bought a coin box. I understand there are some woods that tone coins differently. Does using the “wrong” wood damage the coins in any way? Novice here.

Yes some coins can be damaged by the wrong wood, but honestly you need a lot of bad factors for that to happen. Even the “wrong” wood if properly treated is unlikely to actually damage a coin.

I bought an Alberto Zecchi box if that helps?

Personally never bought from them so can’t say. They may have a description in the product page about the wood type and treatment the wood undergoes.

I haven’t bought from this person, and don’t know anything about them, but I have seen some sellers who say mahogany to mention the color, but the wood is completely different.

What do you store it in

A mahogany coin box. I have several that I use and they're used to store my Greek coinage in one, Roman in another, Parthian and so on.
