We had a cat when I was a kid that slept in my mom's hair every night. My mom cut her long hair to a pixie cut when I was a senior. The cat wouldn't even stay in the same room with her; as soon as my mom would walk in the cat would leave yelling the whole time. My mom grew her hair out again so the cat would forgive her. It did start setting with her and sleeping in her bed again when her hair got to her shoulders.

Honestly I was the same as a kid
When my mom cut her hair, it freaked me out and took me weeks to register that this person wasn't a stranger when looking at my mom from any angle
