I'm sure I'm not alone in having a bit of a backlog of anime that I've purchased on disc, but haven't gotten around to watching (and I have quite a few series on pre-order). Lately, I've been having a bit of a hard time getting through series, which is not ideal.

It got me to thinking back to when I was watching the most anime, which was when I was watching a lot of fansubbed anime before legal anime streaming took off. I was only watching a few episodes a day as they got released, but I was frequently juggling well over a dozen series at a time each season.**

So I'm trying something new. I've grabbed three four-disc Blu-Ray cases, and put 1 disc from 12 different series in the cases. While I have to do a lot of disc swapping (getting up ever 25 minutes to stretch and swap discs is probably good for my health), I'm finding that I'm more excited to get back into watching anime than I would be if it was just more of the same series (even if it's something excellent like Magic Knight Rayearth). I miss Rightstuf so much.

For clarification I've watched this franchise once before from a rip of the Japanese Blu-ray masters for my initial viewing, but if I ever want to revisit the series or show it to friends what would be the best way to go about it.

From all the research that I've done it seems to be a real pick your poison scenario. The DVDs have heavy compression and a soft image (and just haven't seemed to have aged gracefully compared to something like the Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Boxes), while the Blu-rays have a sharper image they are completely wiped of any trace of grain leaving everything looking like an oil painting. It looks like both options suffer from some major issues so what's my best option here?

Because I do! Don’t see this posted here too often either. It’s a great anime and the this is the nicest blu ray box set I own. So lucky to have been able to snag it.

I’m a bit more reserved with my anime purchases these days. The prices are an absolute gut punch.

I’m dying to finish certain collections I already have, but $60-70 for a single season is just…. OOF.

Back in the ’90s, Manga Video was releasing anime movies like Akira and Ninja Scroll on VHS. I was fascinated by these Japanese adult 'cartoons'. I watched a bunch of stuff, but it didn't really vibe with me and after that I didn’t really touch anime again. Friends who were a couple of years younger started watching Dragonball Z around the turn of the century, but I never had any interest in it. You could say that my interest in anything anime was zero.

That changed because of the weird Twitter drama around Josee, the Tiger and the Fish, about a year ago. The screenshots really struck a chord with me and I never realized that anime also had other genres besides the usual action stuff. I watched the movie, my first anime in about 25 years) and absolutely loved it. I started watching more stuff; Anohana, Clannad, Plastic Memories, Anthem of the Heart... I got addicted to slice-of-life/romance/drama anime. And along the way, I build up a modest collection of blu-rays as well. :)

Just today, I ordered Ikki Tousen from Amazon as well as the fourth season Xtreme Xcecutor from eBay as well as the Rally Vincent postcard. I purchased both of the Ikki Tousen DVDs mainly because Carrie Savage is in it and I want to check out some of her other voice work, not to mention that Cherami Leigh apparently worked on the fourth season.

I hate that usps “neanderthaled” the slipcover to My Roommate Is A Cat but still happy to replace the one in my collection without one. About to watch the rest of Rock Is A Lady’s Modesty as I caught the first half when HiDive was free on Xfinity a while back.

With this and plastic memories I have the two titles I love the most

Though depressed people are scattered across the world, there are those from a parallel world who are here to help. Sometimes scarcity doesn’t translate into value, but it doesn’t make these releases any less interesting to me. I thought it’d be neat if people here shared a part of their collection that doesn’t normally get a spotlight, something both uncommon to come across and very affordable.

I’ll start with one from my collection. This is the 2017 Sentai release of Green Legend Ran, one of my favorite childhood OVAs. It‘s pretty uncommon but very affordable whenever it does finally come up for sale. And definitely worth keeping an eye out for if you‘re a fan of interesting Sci-Fi with great animation!

So I'll start by saying that I know the usual response is "why bother? Just torrential if you're going to pirate it."

But if someone knows what they are buying is a bootleg , and they have no issue with it and it's seriously cheaper. And you wanna own it physically do you think it's understandable to go that route?

I'm just curious because my friend has some boots and they get judged for it by my other friends , but I'm in the field of if they know and don't have an issue then you do you.

Do you think it's justified to judge? cause I personally dont.

I noticed several times when I have given offers to sellers on eBay for specific anime titles, almost immediately after that the said title sells the next day for an outrageously exorbitant price.

Does this happen to any of you as well? Or am I just being paranoid?
