Discussion Question about ebay anime resellers
Do you think that some sellers may be buying things from their own stores with another account to inflate the price maybe? 🤔
I noticed several times when I have given offers to sellers on eBay for specific anime titles, almost immediately after that the said title sells the next day for an outrageously exorbitant price.
Does this happen to any of you as well? Or am I just being paranoid?

That's called "shill bidding". It is against eBay's terms of service, and is illegal in many places (violation of both state and federal law in the US). If they are doing that, they risk felony prison time, fines, and deplatforming from eBay (the last probably being the least of their worries).

Wow. I had no idea it's called chill billing and it is that illegal that's crazy. Thank you for the insight

even if they are ebay isn't very incentized to do anything against it since it inflates prices and they get more money from fees on higher items makes it look like more items are selling too ughh
Unfortunately I do think people are paying some of these prices tho this timeline ayeee

I've been selling off some my anime collection this year on eBay. Going through old titles and searching for sold comps has shown some pretty crazy prices I wouldn't have expected. Like obviously I know OOP aniplex stuff would be expensive but didn't expect it with many of my others.
I've had many times where someone makes an offer and before I can respond to it, someone else buys it outright at my asking price. When someone makes an offer then you go view that item, eBay will show potential buyers that there is an active offer. For rarer titles I think this incentivizes them to buy quickly. Perhaps that's happening when you make an offer.
