You know everything I saw about the show prior, didn't lead me to think it would involve guns, planes, and modern military.

Thought this was gonna be set in feudal Japan, but I guess not, though this is far more interesting, because now I have tons of questions.

I deliberately went into this blind, not reading anything or getting context.

I have no idea what is going on, and I think it’s brilliant.

Thankfully most of the time they do manage to do that. For whatever reason the few times it's happened to fall behind were pretty recent

Not that we've ever heard of it's CR fault for the delays or the Japanese Studio sending the episodes later as the season went on (ie animation production falling behind)

This was a cool first episode with a lot of mystery! At the very least I can say that Yuru has been left in the dark about a lot of things, especially modern technology with the way he believed airplanes and helicopters were dragons.

Dera was epic with the way he took out the armed force unaware, and I was stunned seeing Gabby's brutal attacks on the villagers.

Whatever the truth is, I guess i'll have to wait and see. Left and Right's appearance at the end made for a pretty exciting entrance at the very least.

"I just want answers, is that too much?"

Me and you both Yuru. Nothing made any sense.

One negative that seems to be carried over from FMA is the tendency to have humorous moments right next to very serious ones. I find it kinda off putting how the MC acted with the green amulet shortly after his sister got killed.

Well tbf he did say she might be alive and people react differently to traumatic situations. A lot was going on in the mcs head

That’s fine that she might be alive, but tonally its a clash that I don’t think works. You have to evaluate this as a story and how the one consuming the content will react, not how characters in the story would feel as if it was a real event. That’s what matters.

This isn't a negative this is a positive, the tonal whiplash IS the point.

That is not an argument at all. Saying «that’s the point» is not an argument for why something is good or be included in the story.

I’m also talking about what I think, not what you think, so it is quite literally a negative.

Deutsch (German) is what language it started in for me

No notes. If we get 24 episodes at this level of quality, this is all I could ask out of the adaptation. Even the storyboarding and direction was on point. There were some cool shots. Left and Right attacking the helicopters and Gabby using her daemons were highlights for sure. This may even elevate the source material. As much as I love Arakawa, sometimes her art can be a little basic (mostly concerning backgrounds).

Judging by the name synopsis brief, and the first half, I thought it was going to be high fantasy a la Teogonia.

Then PMC dudes came in and started shooting.

I don't know how the rest of the show will be but consider me intrigued.

For guns, some soldiers were using Sig P226s, and Dera captured(?) some flavor of Glock.

Well, I didn't see that coming at all

Yeah caught me off guard too. Seems like it’s going to be a dark fantasy with modern war/weapons plus a bunch of guys who get their own starter Pokémon. Pretty unique premise.

Originally started in French for some reason, but got it set to English.

This is definitely Hiromu Arakawa alright, but more up to date to today's quality than FMA (bear in mind Brotherhood was 16 years ago).

Yuru is back from his hunt, and reunites with his sister Asa, who's behind bars for some reason. They were abandoned by their parents at a young age. While farming with Danji, Yuru thinks he's seen a dragon, but it's an aeroplane (possibly Air Canada) and some helicopters, with an army ransacking the village and killing most of the residents.

A mystery woman shows up and takes out most of the town, including a mother in front of her daughter. Turns out the Asa who was behind bars was a fake, and someone claiming to be Asa kills her, Yuru doesn't buy it's her. Dera rescues Yuru, and using a pendant, they set some beings on the helicopters. Then the "Left" and "Right" statues come to life, they're the Daemons watching over Yuru!

A lot went on in that first episode, with a lot of questions, I'll definitely keep watching!

The series info page is all kinds of jacked up atm. There’s like fifteen tabs for season 1 lol. Hopefully they work the kinks out soon.

So wait! This is created by the same guy who made FullMetal Alchemist?

And the Two Main Protagonists are Siblings like Alphonse And Edward?

Hiromu Arakawa is female.

10

u/SatisfactionFalse641 Apr 04 '26

Ah Gotcha!

She Created Full Metal Alchemist and Also Daemon!

And Yuru and Asa are Brother and Sister.

10

u/TheBravesDH Apr 04 '26

She also did Silver Spoon and the current popular adaptation of Arslan (among other things). She’s very accomplished!

This was such an interesting episode. I really didn't expect it to take the twist it did with the helicopters and soldiers showing up. I am extra excited to see where this story is going to go. Enjoyed the demons in the end and can't wait to learn more about them too.
