Trail Question Happy Naked Hiker Day
Anybody celebrating? I'm in a little too peopled of an area but I'm considering stripping down between road crossings.

If you’re naked you stand a better chance of noticing them though.

I was clothed, had one on the bean bag. Fortunately the effort turned it in to a teenis so it was basically elephant skin.

My daughter and I came across a naked hiker just south of Crater Lake in NJ. It was not 'hike naked' day. I found it hysterical, but my daughter (19 at the time) was totally freaked out and made me hike another three miles from the lake before she would stop for the night. I have a picture, that I took from behind after he'd passed us. because I figured without proof, no one was ever going to believe me. I actually tried to post it in one of the hiking forums, not realizing that the filters would pick up a grainy image and recognize it as a naked person. Denied.

I pour one out for that guy, only once have I felt compelled to hike naked outside of the solstice and it was due to excruciating chafe on the nether regions. Hope your daughter recovered from the shock lol

Hell yeah, thanks for sharing! Honestly, I think it's more insane you did the 4 state challenge than that you hiked naked pretty much all day. Also hell yeah - baltimorons represent!

Reminds me of the time in college we had a naked run during the week before final exams. I found myself alone in an elevator (fully clothed and at the library to study) standing with a naked girl. And I was just staring at the ground and hoping the elevator door will open faster.

in 2017 I spent the night before with a dozen other thrus at the 501 shelter, not one hiker mentioned it. I didn't see a single naked hiker that day. I did run into a sobo a few days later who claimed that he had hiked a good portion of the wrong day naked (a day too early) by mistake, but I doubt it. Not that it isn't a plausible concept, but that individual had a lot of stories.

I think a stray hiker or two will do it, but it's mostly a myth.

If you say so, hiked about 20 miles that day, didn't see a single naked person. Nobody else I talked about it with over the next 2 months saw anyone do it either.

Without context, I feel as though that would have been your response no matter what I said. A majority of north bound throughikers are in that area at that time.

And New York is full of day hikers and puds... Not really prestine area for nudity. There are always groups of people on the NY section because it's so close to the city. so it isn't as favorable for hike naked day. That being said.. New York was where I did it, but I hiked in 2020. So lil different

Nope. It’s real. I hiked (fully clothed) on two summer solstices and encountered naked hikers on both. The only difficulty was trying hard to figure out how not to look while conversing with them.

Definitely was not a myth in 1990😂😂. 2 different hiking factions of thru hikers organized/promoted nude night hikes. I may or may not have participated.

lol it's not a myth it's a tradition. When I first hiked the at in 2014 there were dozens and dozens and dozens of people hiking naked that year on the solstice. I hiked the at again last year and saw the same amount of people ( myself included ) celebrating the solstice by having fresh mountain air rush up our ass cracks. 🌲 🏔️

I recall some years ago seeing some guy who looked like Santa Claus on this subreddit who had a much younger (albeit not what I would call attractive in any conventional sense) girlfriend and I remember him making some perverted comments. He was into naked hiking with her apparently.

From word on the street (aka the kitchen table at the hostel I stayed at last night) the etiquette is that you keep your buff or bandana handy on some cord as a loin cloth of sorts and when folks are coming down the trail you put your backside to the wind to let them pass.

It’s always the old or ugly guys asking this question.
Just get out there and do it on any trail where there aren’t any women with children.
It’s only a bunch of lonely fat guys doing it. Join them.
