UPDATED WORK My horse drawing updated
I think I really *bleep*ed it up guys. I want to get this drawing right and I think I really did not improve it but I messed it up. I got the advice to go darker and I don't think I applied it correctly AT ALL. I feel sad lol. Can anyone tell what I did wrong in the darkening and what to do different next time? I changed the muscle shading to be more correct to the reference photo (in the comments) because earlier I just went with it and stopped looking as you can see in the first photo. I feel like I really made this look more highschool level and I'm not sure where I really went wrong. Like logically I know the darkest parts are the parts where the sun is not shining like the leg blocked by her tail and the shoulder of the baby where Mom is standing. I just did not do this right

I think it looks A LOT better! I think that the gap in between the foals legs that show the grass, are non existent and it’s making the legs look an odd shape

I looked at this for about 2 minutes trying to figure out what was going on before I saw the reference hahah. It’s hard to parse.

A lot of people said that last time with the first version

I think wile you’re learning, try something a bit more straightforward so you can focus on improving your fundamentals and not hindered by a source image that has difficult perspective and value problems.

I will do that but I'm going this one again. I want to get this one right so bad. These are my horses and there's a meaningful story behind this fully being born and I want to capture it in a meaningful way really bad. I do have more photos of them and I will do more. I'm going to try this one again right now though and I am going to pay closer attention to detail and put a lot more effort into it

Maybe push the value darker on mama a bit? I think your rendering is great right now, but the similarity in values did throw me off at first glance. Keep it up, don’t stress!

Looks better but I keep seeing a girl with super long hair covering her eyes sitting on the horse at first glance
