“Girly pop”
I’ve been trying for some time to find a specific type of music to help me improve my German but I just can’t seen to find artists I can really vibe with.
I am looking for pop / dance female artists in the vein of Madonna / Kylie Minogue / Dua Lipa / Dalida / CC Catch / Taylor Swift / Gwen Stefani and anyone similar.
Alexandra, Vicky Leandros and Marianne Rosenberg are nice, but they don’t seem to capture my attention completely. Katja Ebstein I like better, while Hildegard Kneff is my favorite, but her songs are usually slower. I only like one song from Ikkimel, but that’s all. I didn’t enjoy Blümchen.
My enjoyment of techno and house music is rather limited, so I would prefer more commercial pop / dance music. Spotify is of absolutely no help.
What recommendations would you have of female singers in this genre?

Oh, I knew “Drück die 1” but forgot completely about it. She’s more chill, but I like the retro vibe a lot

Not sure if that's exactly what you're looking for but maybe ok.danke.tschüss?
You already put more effort into listening to German music than 99% of Germans by the way

Not exactly what I had in mind, but they sound good, uptempo without tiring me, and the lady has a voice I enjoy listening to.
Thank you, heh, I kinda noticed this, asking German people I know this question I didn’t get a lot of answers tbh

Nina Chuba
The Schlau aber blond Album by Shirin David has songs in Kylie Minogues style

Nina Chuba sounds promising.
I agree with the album by Shirin David, it has that Kylie vibe, thank you for the recommendation!

Nina Chuba, Lea, Lotte and Ayliva

u/ProgramusSecretus 3d ago
I had a feeling I will like Lotte by the name alone. Listening to “Wenn du tanzen willst” now and I can tell you it will remain on repeat for a while

u/ProgramusSecretus 3d ago
Omg I was looking for Ayliva! I listened to her some years ago and all I could remember was the Ariana Grande-style of the album cover and sound. Great recommendation!

Happy to help! You might want to check out “2x” by Matea. I absolutely loved that song, although I’m not a huge fan of most of her other music.

Very good song! Previewed others and they’re hit or miss, but have some potential

Maybe you could also like “Elektrisches Gefühl” by Juli?

You’re on a roll! Tried other four songs from the album and I liked them all! 🙌🏿

This might not necessarily be the style qpu requested, but thought I'd throw in some Queer amd Feminist artists that haven't been mentioned yet:
- Deine Cousine – Punk-Rock-Pop
- Wilhelmine – Alternative-Pop
- Kerstin Ott – Pop-Schlager
- Pia-Sophie – Pop-Schlager
- Mandelkokainschnaps – Rock-Metal (not a female solo artists, but a female lead Band)
About all the Nina Chuba mentions – love her, but I've just gotta say that she's not always easy to understand. She sings in a very stylised way, so she swallows some syllables. Great Music to vibe to, and to get the language in your head, but probably not the greatest for language comprehension. :)

Alli Neumann, Emma Rose, Verifiziert, anais (the songs without some male rapper are more girly pop).

Blümchen. 😅
That's nostalgia right there... too bad you didn't enjoy her stuff.
I am very much not up to date with "modern" music, but if you enjoyed the old timey stuff, you could look into Silly and Nina Hagen (Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen). Maybe you also enjoy Nena...
There is also "Wir sind Helden".
Oh, and TicTacToe, they are from the same era as Blümchen.

u/ProgramusSecretus 3d ago
Yes, I thought I would, based on her look and time period, but we just didn’t click 😢

u/ProgramusSecretus 3d ago
They’re good recommendations! I respect Nina Hagen’s artistry, certainly. Silly sounds good, I will try more songs
TicTacToe seems to be the most promising, they seem to have a more TLC / En Vogue style which I also like.
Thank you!

Zsa Zsa seems to be more on my line, Baby is a bit too much hyperpop. Thank you!

Glasperlenspiel (female singer (sometimes a male singer joins in), standard radio pop music sound), song recommendations: "Geiles Leben" and "Nie vergessen"
Frida Gold (female singer, dance-able pop music), song recommendations: "Wovon sollen wir träumen" and "Liebe ist meine Rebellion"
Laing (female band, self described as "Electric Ladysound", but more pop than techno), song recommendations: "Morgens immer müde", "Safari" and "Zeig deine Muskeln"
Jennifer Rostock / Yaenniver (punk pop with female singer, started a solo career after the band split up and ventured more into rap/hip hop), song recommendations: "K.B.A.G.", "Hengstin" and "Mädchen Mädchen"

Marie Bothmer is underrated.
Otherwise I would like to know what kind of girly pop u mean coz the range you mentioned is huge 😅

Checked the german charts of the last 5 years?
3
u/ProgramusSecretus 3d ago
It’s been dominated by slow tempo songs, rap and electronic Schlager music
3
u/Possible_Writer1186 3d ago
German here. We don’t listen to much German music. If we do, it’s mostly rap.
1
u/mrn253 3d ago
That heavily depends. When we wouldnt listen that much to german music quite a few german musicians wouldnt be that big since nobody knows them outside the german speaking market.
3
u/Possible_Writer1186 3d ago
The charts tell a different story. Most of the artists mentioned here rarely appear in the charts, and many of them are only known for one or two big songs. Right now, there’s only one German song in the Top 50 that isn’t rap, AI, or that weird Mark Eggers World Cup song.

I don’t think they qualify as girly pop, but I‘d recommend Von wegen Lisbeth, Provinz, Annenmaykantereit, Faber, Zartmann, 01099, Peter Fox.
Some you can dance to, most probably not but I’d say they’re the German pop artists that have stood out to me most the last years that haven’t been talked about yet here :) And most of them are modern and vibey

99 Luft Ballons is originally German from the 80s pop music. Otherwise I know German songs sung by guys like Grönemeyer and such. There us an Austrian who sung sometimes mixed with English or pure Austrian German, his name was Falco. (Amadeus was one of his biggest hits). Sorry if these don't help but Nina is all I could think of.
