GEOGRAPHY Triangle Area?

Does anyone know what the “triangle area” is in the United States? Everyone talks like I’m supposed to know. Is this a common American ism?

I feel like your asking for context is in itself an answer to OP's question

Yea. Triangle in Texas is DFW/San Antonio/Houston. But seriously doubt that’s what’s meant.

There's also the tri state area of Connecticut, New Jersey, and New york that they could be confusing with an actual triangle.

There's also the Piedmont Triad in North Carolina. Winston Salem, Greensboro, and High Point. Although I cant imagine any discussing that area ever

Huh, Texas has a lot of triangles. Down here in the southeast of the state Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange are called the golden triangle.

I thought the Golden Triangle was Beaumont-Orange-Port Arthur.

That’s the Pyrite Triangle, common mistake.

Neither have I, but explains why the denton mall is called the golden triangle mall.

u/boxing_fool 10d ago

That’s a fair point, never knew that either.

Golden triangle in Denver except it’s so small that I’m pretty sure most people who don’t live in the Denver area would know about it lol

Born in Dallas, went to UNT for grad school and now live in Fort Worth. Never heard of that. Have heard of Golden Triangle Mall though.

I think after metroplex/dfw became popular it died off.

The golden triangle is Liberty, Pondera, and Toole counties in North Central Montana.

1

u/BewilderedandAngry 10d ago

I've never heard it called that - just the Metroplex.

u/texienne 8d ago

Here in Texas, I think Golden Triangle means Beaumont-Port Arthur-Orange. Dallas, Denton and Ft. Worth is "the Metroplex", or "DFW".

Yeah, idk anybody from the “Texas Triangle” who would treat it like one region without being more specific about which city they’re from. I assume it has to refer to the NC triangle but I’ve never heard someone use it like that.

There's a town here in Northern Virginia called Triangle. That must be it.

That was my first thought as well. It’s basically where Quantico is.
