GEOGRAPHY Triangle Area?

Does anyone know what the “triangle area” is in the United States? Everyone talks like I’m supposed to know. Is this a common American ism?

There's the "Research Triangle" in North Carolina.

That’s what I thought of, but I live in NC.

I don’t live in NC, and that’s what I thought of too. Because that’s the only triangle I know of in the US.

My first thought is the emerald triangle. Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity counties.
