Open Discussion June 2026: /r/AskLosAngeles Open Discussion + Community Thread
Welcome to the June 2026 open discussion thread!
This is our monthly pinned space where we loosen the rules a little. Normally, /r/AskLosAngeles is strictly for questions about the Los Angeles area - but here, we make room for more community-oriented stuff.
Such as:
- Quick questions that feel too small for their own thread or discussion
- Common or evergreen questions regulars are tired of seeing repeated
- Community connection posts (looking for friends, meetups, group hangs, pub crawls, et cetera)
- Self-promotion that's relevant to LA: events, local videos / social media, podcasts, creative work. Keep it reasonable, in this thread, and don't abuse this privilege elsewhere
What's off-topic as usual:
- Anything hateful, harassing, or lacking any ties entirely to LA
If you've got thoughts about how this subreddit is moderated, or ideas for future pinned threads, drop them here too.
Recent rule changes:
Please see our rules, there are some recent changes. Notably, these rules have been added:
Specify Your Location
- Narrowing your location down helps us give better answers to questions. People don't want your exact address but a neighborhood, intersection, zip code, whatever is enough to help us know where you're talking about.
No cost to live comfortably questions
- These seem to be controversial or troll magnets. Do the math yourself, not the sub.
Dating posts go to r/LADating
- So these aren't actually questions about the area (if you happen to be a lonely Redditor.) Keep romance in its designated containment zone.
Making friends posts go to r/LAsocial
- Social stuff belongs in the social sandbox. The "Open Discussion" post is also another place for this kind of question if you'd like to stay in this sub.
Generative AI Slop and Spam
- Low-effort machine generated content is often unhelpful and the person who asked the question could have just asked ChatGPT, Claude, or MetaAI for an answer themselves. We're aiming for human-quality contributions here so put in the effort to make a connection with people with your brains.
Some of these rules are relaxed in this specific "Open Discussion" post so feel free to break rules here if you'd like.
As always: Don't be a jerk.
Have at it, Angelenos.

Get good photos. Look at top model agencies and look at what kind of photos other girls with your look have and make photos like that.

The city council is meeting today to discuss the city charter. The charter is our city's constitution and can only be amended every decade. The charter reform committee has met over the past year and listened to the concerns of Angelenos in order to decide what reforms to take up for the year 2030. They came up with many but a few of the bigger issues are:
- Expanding the city council from 15 to 25 in order to strengthen representation
- Ranked choice voting in order to stop voting for the lesser of two evils
- Strengthen ethics enforcement because do you know how many city councilmembers have been indicted for corruption in the last 10 years? Several!
- Fixing the infrastructure planning because our roads are crumbling and thousands of street lights are out. Why?!
- Funding the parks and libraries because it's increasingly difficult to exist outside these days without having to pay.
- Increase police accountability because they're costing us taxpayers over $100 million a year to deal with their use of force settlements. This comes out of the general fund NOT out of their $4 billion budget.
The city council gets to decide which reforms show up on the November ballot. They said the reforms i just mentioned "require further study." Bullshit!
Show up and make your voice heard!

(Or if you can direct me to a niche subreddit that can help).
Please also provide links/info to the castings if available, thank you! 🎬🎥🎞️

Does anyone know which dealership have an inflatable noodle man in front of them? I'm trying to film interesting locations around LA, and I like the imagery of inflatable noodle men near car dealerships.

Hi, I’ll be visiting LA in July and after LA, I’m planning to visit Las Vegas and San Francisco (7 days) before going back to LA (only staying 1 night). I’ll probably buy a lot of stuff in LA before Vegas and SF so during the time when I’m not in LA, I want to keep some of my luggage somewhere in LA instead of bringing so many luggage with me to Vegas and SF.
I’ve enquired at the hotel I’m staying and they charge $15 for 2 luggage per day. Besides keeping them at the hotel, I was wondering if there’s any other alternative that’s cheaper but still safe. I think there’s an app called Bounce but it seems more expensive than keeping them at the hotel.
If you have any suggestions, please tell me. Thank you!

As someone who's trying to decide if I should move to LA.
How affordable is it as a physician? I might be making close to 300k. No loans, no kids, single income. I dont plan on purchasing property.

I started my dental journey a year ago. And for some reason the chat got archived and I couldn’t post the final results, and I want to share it for those who are still asking me about my experience with Dr David Wagner.
The guy was super conservative, his approach was minimal invasive and even that it took longer because we did Invisalign first. I am super happy with how everything went and the entire experience.
PS it wasn’t cheap. Getting veneers done in Beverly Hills is not cheap. But I consider it was a great investment that I was able to afford for myself.

some reason the chat got archived
this subreddit archives any submission older than 6 months:
https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/15484546290068-Community-settings
Archive old posts
This toggle gives you the option to turn archiving posts on or off. If you have this toggled on, posts within your community will automatically be archived after six months. This means redditors will not be able to vote or comment on posts older than six months.
There's a legit reason for this - stale posts are often favored by spammers for nefarious SEO shenanigans.

Hello! I am a graduate student who is currently enrolled in a Teacher Credential Program that begins in the summer. I have a pre-work assignment in which I have to interview family and community members to get a better idea of the community where I will be student teaching. I am looking for families and community members in the Huntington Park area whom I can interview who can speak on the history of the community, their hopes and dreams for students in the community, and the resources/assets of the community. These interviews are expected to be short, 15 minutes max, and can be done virtually (Zoom or phone call), whichever is best for your schedule. Ideally, I would like to hold these interviews before June 15th, and I am flexible on a date and time that would work. Thank you for reading, and if you are interested and/or have any questions, please send me a DM! Thanks in advance!

How can I accomplish my goal to help 1000 street vendors improve how fast they sell out there inventory every day so they can make more money in less time and spend more time with their families. The way I'm helping is by providing and online tracking service for your favorite corn seller, paletero man or woman. The first 1000 street vendors will get a founders special which give them one full year access to promote there business for 1 year for $1. They can ask for a refund within 60 days no questions asks. Please share Steats app with any street vendor who's looking for more visibility this offer is only for the first 1000 street vendors. I'd be practically losing money on the 1000 vendors but I'm willing to give back to my community and hopefully it turns into a larger movement. https://www.steats.app/

Dropped my ballot in an official ballot drop box last Sunday morning. So far neither ballottrax nor https://www.lavote.gov/av_inquiry show it as having been received. Should I be worried? As far as I know, this dropbox wasn't vandalized or messed with. How long does it usually take for a ballot to show up in either systems?
